Why Does My Hormonal and Sexually Frustrated Parrot Think I Am His Mate???

  • Ever wondered why your hormonal parrot is sexually frustrated and if he truly sees you as your mate? In this video I discuss and go further into detail on whether your parrot TRULY sees you as his/her one true love and mate forever.
    Ever since talking about parrot aggression and understand parrot behaviors, I've been curious as to how much of a "mate" our parrots sees as us. I've contacted many vets and researched online to come to many different conclusions as we talk about my findings in this video.
    I hope this clears some things up for you birbs and if you are still somewhat confused, want to add a few details I missed or didn't clarify to your liking, please add them in the comments. I always appreciate your respectful opinions whether they match up with what I believe or not. I appreciate you all :)

    should ignore and discourage hormonal behavior. But in order to do that, you should know what hormonal behavior looks like. Most people think that if the bird gets cuddly and all that, that it is cute and reinforce it. WRONG : they get A LOT of problems a while later on, because the bird now thinks that YOU are his MATE. The bird is being aggressive, it attacks people except his/her mate. I see it in A LOT in youtube comments. Most people should get classes for owning a bird, i mean it. I had a cockatiel, wich was my first bird. She showed some strange behavior, like stretching her wings like she wanted to give me hugs, she would make suck movements on my finger, what did i know, it was my first bird, and ignorant about it, but i knew it was strange and not normal. So, i bought A LOT of books about cockatiels, and started investigating, and researching. seemed hormonal behavior, it all made sense to me in an instance why she did that. I instantly discouraged and ignored that behavior, when she did do that, i would put her back in her cage, and let her out after 1 or 2 hours, and repeated it. I caught it early, so i never had problem with an aggressive attacking bird. I know now how to handle her, and how to pet her right. She is still hormonal, but when she is, i leave her alone, not neglecting her, but keep distance and don't pet her to much. it works. She is not aggressive towards other people, she is not the typical one person bird. If you notice it early, and act on it straight away, it is not to late. But when you keep encouraging it, and reinforcing it, you get in A LOT of trouble later on.

    Girl "Chexmix" and "slimjim" cracked me up. I have my middle schooler watching your videos about Popples so she can get an idea of what to expect. Her quaker Rose is being hand raised by the breeder and will be coming home in about two weeks. She gets to go visit Rose twice a week and spend at least and hour each time. She is very excited and we appriciate your videos.

    Tui is going hormonal big time, She is clingy and screams if i leave the room, she tries to rub her rear on me, she also try to regurgitate in my ear. she will also attack my hand when i try to clean her cage. The vet says just to ignore her when she acts up and put her back in cage when starts rubbing or regurgitate

    my bird is very hormonal and she is 14 years old, gotten so bad that she is aggressive and plucking her feathers, and upcucking on her toys and rubbing her back side on her perches and toys. Vet says only way to fix it is to get hormone shots, which is 150 bucks every 3 months. I am on fixed income and this is very hard for me. makes me very sad to see her like this

    Our African Grey, Fernando, is regurgitating to me or his chain we use to carry his sleep cage. We've had him for 24 years and had 2 birds for 24 years but 2 different breeds so never mates just had each others company. Our Sun Conure, Oriana, passed away last April 5th after 24 years with us. He took it as hard as we did. I was more loving with her, she was my snuggler so my affection was given to her more. He got my attention too but his person was my husband and after Oriana passed away he got 100% of my attention and started showing more affection after 20 years. We are to old to get another bird 😔.

    Hey, Victoria, thanks so much for this and your other videos! You really helped me establish a relationship with my Quaker & gave me great advice :) He's 1 now and has been with me since July last year. I still don't know for sure if it's a she or a he but def started to display mating behavior. Not aggressively so, but it's recognizable. I know it's a weird request but do you happen to know/direct me to videos or explicit descriptions of mating behaviors in female vs male Quaker parrots? I tried to look on here but I Couldn't find anything remotely helpful- I really want to determine if my birb is a she or a he, based on its behavior. (I do not have access to DNA testing so this is pretty much all I have). Thanks and hope this is not freaking anyone out :))

    I have a male and a female Quaker parrot. My female has recently started laying eggs. I tried putting her and my male together in her cage but she got so upset she started throwing up everything in her crop. What should I do? I do have a spare cage that’s good sized its not his or hers. It’s the cage I use when I give them outside time.

    I’m a truck driver, I’m going to get a cockatiel. I’m alone 24/7. So how am I supposed to have a bird without her thinking I’m her mate? It’ll just be me and her 24/7? How would any bird realize I’m not their mate, but spend all of their time with me? Seems confusing. I don’t want her biting me out of sexual frustration. I don’t want her to feel unwanted, and lash out later. So how do i have a bird in that 1 on 1 way, without sexually frustrating her?

    Hi there! So odd question. I am going out of town for three days and wonder if you think it would be ok to have someone birdsit. Ive searched the web and am not getting very good results for information. I dont want to leave him alone, but am concerned he may feel like he is being rehomed. Any thoughts?

    • @VictoriaRyann
      @VictoriaRyann  5 років тому +1

      Hey Steve! When my family and I go out of town, we have a family friend bird sit for us. With my birds personally, we haven't had any issues and they actually get super excited when I come home. Sometimes however, birds can act a little mad when you come home but don't take it personally. Its one of those situations where you just give them plenty of treats and spend time with them afterwards. Thankfully birds don't seem to hold grudges for too long 😉 if you do end up having to leave him alone, consider leaving a radio on or some form of light noise for him and the obvious like plenty of toys and treats and he should be just fine 😊 hope you have a safe trip out of town and back and hope this helps

    Will it stop? Like a cant even ask her to step up without her regurgitating. I just dont know what to do. Because I like to spend time with her by putting her on my shoulder or on my arm. I dont want to make her frustrated. I love her but I dont know what to do. She doesn't bite me often but she attacks people like my dad or my friends. I'm really confused and I dont know what to do☹

    • @VictoriaRyann
      @VictoriaRyann  5 років тому +2

      Hey Corrin yes with a female its pretty tricky. Cause normally I say remove everything that is getting her hormonally frustrated. But if you are the reason why and if its that extreme, I recommend seeing a vet. If that isn't an option or you want to try a way yourself first... perhaps keep your distance. Obviously still spend time with her and talk to her not neglecting her. But no petting or her getting cuddly with you. This is something they go through but giving her space and not being handsy should really help. Same way with your dad and friends. Perhaps if they keep their distance from her for a while and then work on bonding after shes over the hormonal phase.
