Congratulations Nelson on winning the saw.
Howdy Brock! Results weren't that surprising with the big rounds. The small rounds though... huge difference! Nice comparison. And Mike... don't let Brock fool you... he was just looking to get some extra wood split with free labor... 😁 Well done guys, thanks for sharing 🤠
Hahaha thanks steve. I was wondering that half way through the day.
Awesome, thank you! I’m curious to see how that thing runs. Thank you for the shout out as well!
I’ll get on the Facebook group
To get ahold of you
Hi Brock. That was interesting. Thanks
I noticed. Much better sir!
Your working from the table, then directly to the tote. Way less picking up from the ground compared to previous videos👍🏻. Way more efficient and easier on your back. Well done.
That swisher splitter really needs some log cradles.... I have a black diamond 27 ton splitter with dual log cradles and its a huge help
That Ultra is a a fast machine
Very fast!
Morning Brock & cowboy & everybody else
Great comparison. Fair setup! Good job Brock & Mike!
Thanks J
I bought a used County Line 25T splitter for $700. I split firewood for our fireplace, and I think I burned maybe a full cord for the 2023 winter. I'd like to have a fancier splitter, and I'd >really< like to have a log lift. For me, I can't justify spending the $5100 + shipping for a machine that doesn't have a log lift. Don't get me wrong, it's a very nice machine, and if I buy something it's highly likely it'd be an Eastonmade. If I tried to justify it on the ROI aspect, it'd never happen. If I buy one just because I like cool toys, that's another matter :) But no log lift is a deal breaker for me.
A log lift would be very handy. I split a lot of large rounds and would love to have a log lift.
one observance, your friend split his smaller than what the Eastonmade splits it into 4 pieces on the small stuff. He spllit his small stuff into 6 and eight pieces, not 4.
Great comparison! We have a speeco 22 ton and with Aspen (well seasoned) it splits easily. We do use 2 people, we split at the storage location, and the 2nd person stacks while the 1st splits so it does help. Also, I'm building a bolt-on "shelf" for the splitter (vs. buying one) that will hold the off cut, so no bending over.. ;-)
I want to see you compare that Ultra to Okie Woodsman’s SplitFire! Thanks for sharing your experience.
Interesting 😉
@@oakiewoodsmanMake sure to include some sycamore!
@@frankdrahos8569 I second the sycamore comment.
I still like the vertical splitter better.
As a kid I dreamed of having a splitter
Mike make a table for your splitter in your spare time 🤪
Mr Todd I really liked using that table. Made life alot easier
Tables make all the difference in the world!
Good morning Brock. As you know I'm always very positive about things on your channel but I have to say that I wasn't real impressed with that Easton made splitter. Most homeowners don't have two or three splitters to choose from for different sizes of rounds. I personally split rounds that big and some bigger on my homeowners splitter (now the ones that are really big that I can't lift I'll do vertical). I'm also never in that much of a hurry to get it done so I'll stick with my Countyline 25 ton splitter. Also, Mike needs a log catcher on his splitter. It's a game changer. I finally got one a few months ago and it will speed things up a lot because you don't have to go chasing the pieces that you split. God bless and have a wonderful day. 👍👍🙂 P.S. One other thing, how long does it take to change out the splitting head to accommodate the big rounds?
Mr John. A log catch is a great idea. Where was you able to find yours? Or maybe I should just build one
@@TheRustyGarageandHomestead I bought mine at Tractor Supply. It was made for a newer splitter than mine but I just had to drill a hole to make it work. I thought about building one but by the time I bought the materials needed and the time to do it I figured it was way easier and cheaper to buy one. If I already had the materials I might have considered building it. God bless. 👍

Mike really could use racks to catch the wood he isn't working on, that was falling on the ground.
I'm looking at it a lil differently - since you very rarely get the perfect load of firewood to run thru a 4 way - you need to add the time it took to whoop that big round off the 4 way or the time it takes to swap out from a 4 way to a 2 way on the Ultra to split the huge rounds. I've got a HD "homeowner" splitter and it has a removable table geared up so you don't have to drop the large split chunks on the ground - Mike it's something you might wanna consider??. The Ultra is a very nice machine but for a homeowner application I just can't talk myself into it being worth 3 times the cost....
Factoring in time to switch wedges makes sense but you’re not going to just switch wedges for two rounds. That’s something you’ll save all the big stuff and do it with the straight wedge and then do the little stuff with the four way.
Good comment 902
@902hand7 I think your right. I need to make something or buy something to keep from having to drop the wood all the way down to the ground.
Personally, I’d try welding a bigger platform to the older splitter before dropping 5k.
That misses the point of all of the things that make a commercial splitter better. The ultra has a 4 second cycle time compared to 12 seconds in the homeowner splitter
Their is no cheap fix for an inadequate hydraulic pump
Subscribed Nelson ridge farm & congrats on the saw you won . I subscribed to the Wrong one lol Nelson ridge & Nelson ridge farm I subscribed too both look like channels I would like
Thanks for the follow!
I reckon I missed something, but I haven't heard a thing about the machinery coming in from the sawmill company anymore. Are you still getting in damaged goods and repackaging and/or reselling ??
