I love my 2013 Model S so much! I am not thinking about getting a new one. Repair is always cheaper then buying a new car every now and then. I made almost all retrofits. MCU 2, double charger, frunk lifter, and so on.
I love seeing this car on the road! My daily is this exactly same spec 2013 P85 with a messily 60K miles (96.5K Km). I’m glad to see yours holding up so well.
EV technology is so new and evolving so fast it's amazing how well a 7 year old Tesla Model S has held up. A testament to Tesla's engineering and design capabilities. We finally bought a Model Y last July and so far my lifetime Wh/mi is just at 250. I performed fantastically during one of our worse winters in Illinois. We had average temps below ZERO F for several days and the Y was fabulous. Looking forward to the rest of MF's check-up.
I own 2014 p85, driving experience is better than new ICE vehicle. I can expand this, but your video is a testament from my experience with my own 9 years old Model S
Motor and battery must be ok now, because the 8 years warranty runs out end of the year. If not, a warranty case now, would save a lot of money. But looks good, nothing to indicate they are not ok. Millennium Falcon gets better every day. Fun fact: Bjørn did reset Trip A with 100.000+km, to not stress the old eMMC flash chip. Recomend resetting those high numbers, if you have not gotten the eMMC Flash replacement yet from Tesla. (under warranty) Nice to see the unbeatable team again.

Hey Bjorn, please measure the charging times of the P85 Tesla - this would be really interesting as people are saying that there is some kid of rapid-gate going on with old teslas.
I can expect with Tesla Quality to have my Model 3 for a good 15 years. I had averaged owning used cars over 10 years old before they start going kaput or just have way more maintenance than I want to handle. A good EV having less to service will last longer provided the body isn't falling apart. Whether I trade up sometime hard to say.
It's really, really great to see Bjorn back on form, sorely missed. Wonderful! Bjorn's "Yo, what's up" is one of those universal reference points that confirm we haven't suddenly found ourselves in a parallel universe ... I think. ... what if? ... do we really know? I really like the classic non-autopilot instrument panel. I can understand why the autopilot-enabled display is thought to be better, but what does it actually do? I have never had anything useful out of seeing my (static) car surrounded by jerky ghost vehicles. The driving pleasure focus and aesthetics of the old display are much, much better. Why doesn't Tesla make this selectable? The code is obviously there, it should be very simple to implement.
Great topic and good info. Interesting to me since I have 6 year old P85+. Was Millennium Falcon hit by 2019.16.1 that reduced battery capacity by 15%? Cell voltage was cut to 4.0 volts to reduce the risk of spontaneous fire. Tesla says it is for battery longevity. My 100% range went from 259 miles to 220 miles rated. Glad you have your health back. Actually, it is dependant on whether the resale is from Tesla, or was sold at auction, or private/ dealership. If bought used from Tesla they remove that from the car, if sold at auction then there is a good chance it was removed. If private or dealership good chance it still has it, but not guaranteed. That is why it is important to look at the history of the Vehicle. If you see at some point one of the owners bought used from Auction or through Tesla you know before going to buy what to expect. The only reason I know this is because I am looking to buy a late model 2014 Model S. those would be the first with the autopilot 1.0 really is just advanced cruise control. but they are hard to find especially when you Rule out cars that are White, no sunroof, and wanting to spend under 30K USD.

@Bjorn Nyland Concerning battery heating an cooling if you use range mode this video suggest that the car will let the car heat the battery more. In my S85 I have observed that when not being in range mode but navigating to a SUC on a long trip the car will not use the battery heater (not showing prepare for SuC) but will let the battery temp increase to higher temperatures then when not navigated to a SUC. Could you check if you also see this behaviour? I am Using Scan My Tesla.

Depends on the previous owner. Like any used car. A taxi will have high mileage and still be in good nick. A city car with low mileage will be in worse state.
I wonder what answer it gives you. For me it would be to buy a new one. Battery, motor, suspension, colling, AC, wiper - all had been changed or rebuilt. Basically anything that moves. And average consumption is nowhere near to the numbers presented in these two optimistic tests (in one of previous videos there was total charge taken by the new battery and if we divided those 260k on new battery by that, it gave ~310Wh/km)

I have one question that I haven't seen an answer to with regard to level of charging. Whilst it is good not to regularly charge above 80-90%, is it less harmful to the battery if the charging is done at a lower rate than that limited by the car? For instance is a final top up at 2.5kw or 7kw at home better for the battery than using a public charger charging at whatever the car allows?

The Tesla battery BMS is probably one of the best out there, because it actually tunes itself to the age of the battery. LiPo batteries can hold charge for a very long time, and they can go through so many cycles, but the characteristics of the cell changes over time, internal resistance increases, batteries develop the LiPo specific memory-effect, fielding and all that. Where other manufacturers just give up on the cell Tesla takes the age into account. Your perception of the calibration is incorrect - the battery will always return the charged capacity minus the losses, but during a full charge cycle the cells and packs are balanced to perfect full-charge symmetry. The next few discharges are used for the calibration of the percentage value of the battery resulting not in a much larger capacity, but less stress on the cells and the packs since the low-discharge stress on the cells in minimised . If this adds capacity, then that capacity will be added to the available capacity reported by the battery. The main indication that your batteries have aged is the fact that they produce more heat during fast charging and that the BMS reduces the charging speed earlier.

in other cars CCS dont calibrate the battery no matter if you go 100% or not. If you want calibration you should charge to 100% on AC instead, or charge 90% on CCS and then the last 10% on AC
afaik: charging to 100%, then drive until car almost turns off (0%) then charge again to 100%. The Computer now knows the low and high voltage of the battery. At 100%, leave it at the charger (at home) because the cells may have different SoC which will be equalled then. After that you get the full remaining battery capacity (depending of degradation) available.
It was replaced 108k km ago, & even these old packs should last 200 k km without that much degradation. I think Bjørn said he borrowed it from the people he sold it to so he could run these tests.

I have a similar car, its not normal degradation, tesla limited capacity and charging speed by purpose. If you downgrade firmware to 2019.1 you get the old charging curve
@@JW-urth, it does mean that Tesla limited the maximum cell voltage. This reduces the battery capacity artificially more than the normal degradation would do.

347750 km is 216081.832 miles. Wow! That is impressive. My 2007 Buick has only 131,681 miles on it. I may be the last owner of this car.

At 5:16 Power is down to 287 kW?? I guess that is max power draw on the battery for acceleration battery discharge.

why? 12 to 13% los in battery capacity is like 8 to 10kWh vs new battery so 50km les range over 6 years/248.000km :)

15:32 Why did you choose these EVs to compare against? Shouldn’t the natural competitor be the Taycan 4S with the small battery? Most of the others you listed are the more coupe-style crossovers (except Polestar 2). Seems like you just selected the least efficient new EVs to compare it against.
What do you believe is the original day 1 battery capacity on the P85 Bjorn? I read it's 80.5kWh useable (including the 4kWh buffer)?

I have a similar car, its not normal degradation, tesla limited capacity and charging speed by purpose. If you downgrade firmware to 2019.1 you get the old charging curve
How can you go back to an old version?

what you mean by its not normal degradation??? SC a old battery like a new battery you have big degradation for sure!!!
@@JW-urth, it does mean that Tesla limited the maximum cell voltage. This reduces the battery capacity artificially more than the normal degradation would do.
How many km does this go now with full charge?
In Range mode the battery is set to a higher temperature (around 40C) to be able to release more electrons.
How much additional range do you think it would get on summer tires? Maybe you can do that test later this year.

can you change halogen bulbs to led?
No you can't change to another type bulb on these classic Tesla's headlights since they are using xenon lights bulb.
