Sanjay has developed a beautiful way of describing his experiences with the great artists, appreciating openly their 'vidwath'. Very nice for an artist. God bless him!👍
He was Ambal upasakkar. Every Fullmoon day during late sixties he will play flute at his Thiruvarur house in the evenings. Sometimes it’s will go till next day early mornings. Sri. Venkataramani, mirudangist from Mayavaram once took me and I was fortunate to hear it till early morning. Flute at night with divine atmosphere is still lingering in my mind and ears. Thanks for kindling my sweet memories. Mangalani bhavanthu
I am sure Shri Sanjay Subramanium too must be maintaining wonderful diaries full of stories, songs , notations and history. How I wish to see it becoming a published book somewhere in the future titled “ Sanjay Diaries “
Ramani's concerts in mfac were my faves those days..so enthralling and mesmerizing was his playing that we used to be transported to another world of peace and happiness..thx.sanjay for extolling this genius.
Just recently followed this On that note series, superb sir.. we are getting to know lot about experience and more so about great vidwans and their unknown monumental attributes.
The way Sanjay Subramanyam narrates about the music of the stalwarts is so nice. Really tears roll down my eyes when I try to imagine the situations he talks about. His expression is beautiful.
Sanjay sir you are very blessed and as Rasikas we are very blessed to be living in the same time as you. Your skilful narration makes one to hear it again and again. Best wishes for a very healthy, peaceful and long life💐💐
It is so beautiful to hear this. I think of so many layers. My close friend aunty used to learn from Sri Ramani, n was obviously in awe. To hear you mention about him n his persona is touching. Thank you for the share .
Sanjay brings out the unknown dimensions that are best and creamy of such personalities who have already reached the pinnacle. Delectable narratives. Our deep respect for such persons grows manifold and incidentally adds tremendous value to Sri Sanjay
You have a natural talent to narrate anecdotes. I first listened to Ramani in the 60s at Keyes High School Secunderabad and became a lifelong fan. Keep adding to your repertoire of anecdotes.
Sanjay ji s very blessed to interact with so many stalwarts of music, apart from he himself, now being a great sought after vocalist . Very casual interesting facts he gives which s enjoyable
wonderful info, Thanks. ;Back 1976 in apris w just had our second baby but i had to go all the way to apris to listen to ramani lalgudi palghat raghu; we were only some 6 indians rest were french, we could easily get up n the stage after concert and speak to them; we leant the next day there leaving for amseterdam and also with the baby in the house w could not invite them , he requested some food; so my wife made rasam chadam papadam for the train journet paris to amsterdam; and ssince Raghu was shivering in cold I lent my top coat to him; two years later when i went to meet Raghu', he left a message for me and returned the top coat!!!!
You are indeed a wonderful story teller - thanks for sharing these many wondrous interactions with such elite artists, their joyous music, and mannerisms and so much more. I really look forward to each such episode of yours. Thanks a ton !
Great lesson from a Great master : Learn from every artist and give to the Rasikas. His Kamadhenu/Akshaya Pathiram Purse to you, is his sweet, thoughtful gift to you. Blessed, You are.
Each and every episode is beautifully narrated with a personal touch which makes us enjoy the scholarly musicians' other side.Amazing.Thanks and enjoying them very much.🙏🙏
Super Sir. 👌 Looking forward to season 3. 🙂 In your next videos kindly add great violin stalwarts like MSG, VVS too. 🙏 Please keep sharing like this. It boosts youngsters to do more sadhana. Thanks for sharing such great memories. 🙏 I like your enormous recollections more than listening to your concerts. The interesting part is that, climax of each of your videos brings a smile 😊. Hope all viewers too will experience the same. ☺ Since childhood I have been a big fan of yours. I always recall, 18 years ago I played tambura for one of your concerts at Sri Rama Lalita Kala Mandira in Bangalore. (Open air concert) Seeking your blessings sir !! 🙏 Regds
Of course, Ramani was an absolute genius on the flute. The playful side of him asking for more "shampugnee" in full form at came out during receptions after his concerts in NJ during the late 70s.
Really liked this one, sir. Your recollections and thoughts on Ramani sir's music, gave me goosebumps. Complexity and melody combined in his music. His darini telusukonti was my introduction to his music. A tape, back in '80s, with vellore ramabhadran sir on mrdangam. Followed by a short rtp in kambodhi, i recall..
It's Not Only that Purse, But, your Heart is also immensely full with his memories as we could feel it Sir the way expressed your experience with him. We equally cherish your association with Flute Ramani Sir. During my early 20's I got attracted towards this Carnatic Music more by listening to instrumental music only that of Maestros T Chowdiah's Violin, N Ramani's Flute, U Srinivas's Mandolin, Chittibabu's VeeNa play, Kadri Gopalnath's Sax and Namagiripettai Krishnan's Nadhaswaram. These were the Entry Passes to me to peep into the Carnatic Music Genre and that curiosity slowly developed into an intense interest which gradually evolved as a passion to listen to Vocal Music too keenly. I believe, the Krithi as well as the Raagaa Gaana Moorthy (VeNu Gaana Moorthy)has been specifically & aptly designed for Flute Play. I savour it, rejoice it very much quite frequently, not only in the flute, but also in MLV's Voice.. Thanx for reminding. I am just now about to listen to it only. With kind Regards, Advance Deewali Greetings to you and everyone in your family & all in your circle. 🙏 Hari Raam.
Delightful. The articulation of events and musical enrichment through personal relationships with such maha-Vidwans do highlight the path to scholarship and sustaining traditions. Happy to be able to listen to these notes….. Thanks!

Sanjay sir, show us the hands which you received the purse from Ramani mama. Anantha koti namaskaram. You are so blessed sir. So blessed. Let your musical journey continue with health and peace.
Sanjay sir, would like to hear about the trio legends who followed Musiri mama. Suguna Varadhachari ma'am, Suguna Purushothaman ma'am and Mani Krishnaswamy ma'am. Please.
I feel elated listening to the episodes of Sanjay sir. But every time it ends I keep wondering why did he end his unique and intimate style of narration. It's always pleasent like his music has been.
These accounts of Sanjay are so wonderful and informative. Sanjay is a great narrator. I was shocked, however, to hear Ramani Sir's comment over Flute Mali's status as a genius. While all the top Carnatic musicians of his era (plus all his other sishyas) all seem to agree that Flute Mali was one of the greatest geniuses of the 20th century, Ramani Sir seems to think otherwise. I don't get Sri Ramani's point. Yes, even geniuses have to do the initial hard work - that is a prerequisite, but that does not make them less of a genius.
I do not think Ramani sir disagrees with the fact that Mali was a genius. The fact that TRM's genius was accompanied by a lot of hard work is probably what he intended to convey.
I used to think Sanjay ji 'has the gift of the gab'. I am now beginning to realize that that phrase is way too small for his oration. Words do no justice to his skill; it speaks for itself.
Sanjay has developed a beautiful way of describing his experiences with the great artists, appreciating openly their 'vidwath'. Very nice for an artist. God bless him!👍
Ramani sir was a great Vidhwan and highly humble which many of the present young musicians should follow. Namaskaram

Sanjay sir you are very blessed and as Rasikas we are very blessed to be living in the same time as you. Your skilful narration makes one to hear it again and again. Best wishes for a very healthy, peaceful and long life💐💐
Excellant . ramani sir was a legendary vidwan .happy to hear about him
Can anyone have said it better,an insight into a maestro's personality - so well put and what a parting gift - signed off with gusto
Sri Ramani sir was such a down to earth person. Sir was a very close friend of me
It is so beautiful to hear this. I think of so many layers. My close friend aunty used to learn from Sri Ramani, n was obviously in awe. To hear you mention about him n his persona is touching. Thank you for the share .

Your episodes are absolutely enthralling ! So nice to learn about the lesser known aspects of great musicians !!
Ramani Mama , gem of a person.

Perhaps, the purse was meant to be his parisu to Sanjay. Kudos!
Yes. Ramani Sir used to play Bhajagovindam on flute, adopting the manner in which MS Amma has sung this Sankara Masterclass.
