Some concerts and Musicians were never made. They just happened. How deeply one misses Ramabhadran Sir's honey-soaked accompaniment!! The vAdhyam tuned to razor precision, valam-idam balance, the "podi" phrases akin to peacock dancing in the rain... Just beautiful❤

Fast sarvalagu with mirdanga naadam of VR Sir synchronising with fast swaras MMI ji and subtle acoompaniment of LKJ Ji, nothing more one can ask or expect in carnatic musical arena !!!!!

rAga tALa gatulanu pADucunu : lyric meaning is "singing (pADucunu) to rAga, tALa and gati (gatulanu)"... how sri mani iyer picks up the concept and employs his prowess to deliver it, is brilliant, just out of the world.. variations in raaga bhaava, variations in taalakattu, variations in tempo or gati, all built in a silken passage of niraval... pure bliss

The accompaniments are either just wooed/captivated by the mood of the singer or it’s just that the spirit of music (the raga aka the bhakthi) has simply swallowed these stalwarts to create such an impactful and wholesome rendering of the queen of Carnatic raga the Kalyani.

For many years my mother used to listen to this vasudevayani on a daily basis.
Yours truly once happened to meet Ramabhadran Sir during his morning walks at the Marina beach, played this recording in my walkman and asked if this was him or PSP. He did confirm that it was him and thanked me for this doubt saying that this doubt was indeed a great compliment! Never before, Never again shall we see Vidwans of the caliber of Ramabhadhran Sir ❤
A while ago, I spoke to Shri Kalidas, a direct shishya of PSP, and he told me that Mahavidhwan Sri Vellore Ramabhardran came closest to PSP. And that is why he was preferred by MMI after PSP's untimely demise. Shri Ramabhadran was so popular that he would have concerts booked for 3 months in advance.
His play was masterclass that was able to handle the likes of Alathoor Brother and Nedanuri, who indulged in lots of laya intricacies.
I have a thani of his in misra chapu that lasts less than 4 minutes from a concert of Sangeetha Kalanidhi , Veena Vidwan Brahmanandam and his wife Sharada that is as wholesome as a thani can get - a true showcase of his vidwath.
He was a very witty man.

In the 1980s I had the opportunity to meet Shri. LGJ, while on a foreign concert. Swaragnani is how LGJ started describing MMI. Tears rolled down on LGJ's cheeks while listening to a hindolam krithi of Thyagaraja.
MMI is immortal so also this particular rendition.

Dear shriram sankar ji - this is cleqrly one of the most enjoyable musical experiences... The mrdangam is played by the great pazhani... Not vellore..
