+Zachsaroo I know man, I mentioned that some people wanna go further afield to get a shorter waiting time or whatever. I just prefer for it to be closer to home and to be able to get there on my own if needed. :)
It's good to hear someone's point of view on the NHS waiting list, most of the videos i just watched they all went private which i cant do, so this was amazing! You just got a new subscriber!
I’m 15, my parents are transphobic but my school support nurse has been really supportive and referred me to the Leeds under 18s gender clinic (I think it’s fairly new?) without their consent, meaning that she’s my point of contact. I’m officially in the waiting list after months of not hearing, and I’m really excited (obviously I know that it’s going to take 2 years) because I’m actually getting stuff sorted! Thanks for your help, -Dylan
Sorry to hear about your parents mate but really glad that your school has been supportive.☺️👍🏼 (I made a video with a friend about his experience there a few years ago if you search Tavistock in my videos you should be able to find it.)
Nice video :) I've been at the Tavistock clinic since January and I had to wait about 7 months for an appointment... Although I got lucky because some people have had to wait 11 which really sucks :/
+DarkLynx Glad you liked it + nice, that's good for you then. Tavistock tends to be a shorter wait than most adult clinics. At least you don't have to wait 18months like me ey? Haha :)
Process of getting referred is the same & the NHS as a whole but gender clinics especially are underfunded so there are lots of people waiting but not many staff so the waits are long. There's really nothing you can do to speed that up, you just have to keep yourself busy in the meantime. Setting small goals to work towards & getting into some hobbies is a good way of passing time, can make it easier for some people. :)
@@JaysJourney Thank you. I find that setting small transition goals to work towards helps. Like getting a haircut, buying your first pair of boxer, your first binder, first packer etc. Also thanks a lot for doing these videos, they really help.
Those can definitely be helpful & something to look forward to but it's also good to have things going off completely unrelated to transition, sometimes dysphoria is a lot to deal with & you don't wanna think about anything to do with being trans so it's nice to have things that don't relate to that or at least not revolve around it. :)
That’s shit mate, did you ring and tell them what happened? That’s their mistake so surely they’ll give you the next cancelled appointment or something so you don’t wait longer.
Yeah I rang them and they said to go to the doctor to get a re referral which will still have a quite long wait but not as long as the first time. Needs to hurry up man, I’m 23, not getting any younger haha
Wait, a re-referral to the clinic? Like they took you off their list because you couldn’t attend the appointment they fucked up on? Nah, that’s bullshit. You shouldn’t be struck off unless it’s 2 or more (depending on the pace) consecutive missed appointments without viable reason and notice. That’s like the standard rule everywhere.
100% complain about that, they can’t make vulnerable people wait almost 3 years because they made a mistake. Contact PALS and get on it. That’s completely unethical.
I'm 17 going to be 18 on 26th December, I don't want to have to wait 9 months without being on any list, surely they'll put me on an adult one since I won't get my first appointment till I'm 20?
Speak to whichever clinic you're getting referred to, when that happened to me I'd heard of other people being added to the list before they turned 18 as long as they would be by the time they got seen. Idk if it was just Sheffield that didn't & that was in 2016, things have changed a lot in 5 years
+Tate's Life Haha, yeah just sat with my occupation therapist, doctor and parents cause I'm an awkward person. XD Go for it. Person: 'What's your sexuality?' You: 'Pansexual, I don't care about gender' Person: 'So... basically Bi? You: 'No, I'm sexually attracted to pans' Person: *slowly walks backwards out the door*
You can request which clinic you want to get referred to as, by your own right, you can choose which clinic you want to go too.

Yeah xD You're right. I just hope that the time goes by fast for you like it did with me and my 7 months xD
+DarkLynx Well I've nearly been waiting 7months now and it's gone really quickly, so hopefully the rest of the time will. :)
Yeah hopefully :)
How long did it take you? I just got checked and taken my measurements and info but still hesitant about how long it's gonna take
Hey dude what about GIDCs (GICs for people under 16)? I'm 2 moths waiting, my friend is 2 YEARS waiting and still o answer for him

I waited 22 months and then couldn’t even attend my appointment because I got the letter 2 days after the appointment was🙄

Well that’s what they said, literally takes the piss though because there’s still at least a 10 month wait for a re referral anyway!

Sexually attracted to pans haha, might steal that one!:p
