  • In this video I take a trip down south searching for some fish! I was fishing the surf in Virginia Beach and ended up on a good mackerel bite. I was lucky enough to be by a busting school and landed a few fish. After catching some fish I took them back to the kitchen for a very easy simple preparation. Hope you enjoy this one!

    I seriously love your channel man. The views of ocean are very much something I need right now. Can’t resist: holy mackerel!!! That’s gonna be some eating. Respect you fillet skills that’s a lost art for me. Beautiful plating, love the Asian flair. Great stuff

      Thank you so much chef Geoff! I’ve been having to keep up with my skills so I don’t lose them not working! I wish I could have cooked the fish up fresh but unfortunately I had to freeze it. I went simple this time, but for next time I catch a mackerel I will try to a more composed dish. I appreciate your support!

    Spanish are a blast to catch. I like the bubble rig with straw and rip it across the surface. They are delicious fresh also.

      I’ve heard of that! I’ll have to look that rig up. I wish I could have ate it fresh!

    Love some great mackerel! They are fun to catch as well. Just got to do some king fishing the other day and smoked some nuggets. Turned out great. I like to blacken smacks in the cast.

      Wow now that sounds really good. Do you have a method for smoking the kingfish? If so I’m interested and would love to know how you did it!

    Looked good to me bud ! Although you can’t argue the fact that fresh hasn’t been frozen is the best way to eat fish salt or freshwater ! Still you had some happy people and full bellies so that’s a win ! Well done bud

    Spanish Macks do not freeze well . Same with Speckled Trout. Fresh is the way to go for sure with those . Still pretty good though when you know you caught it yourself. Fresh SM is great on the grill with just a little s&p , evoo and lemon . Outta site !!

      I would have loved to eat them fresh but I caught them that night and had to leave the hotel in the morning. So I decided to freeze them. Thanks for the recommendation though!

    Great vid! Which stretch of beach is this in Hampton roads? How heavy was your lure? Tight lines!

    • @thelinecook
      @thelinecook  3 роки тому

      Thank you! I’m not to sure where this was because I was just walking the beach while on vacation down there. If it helps this was the beach off of sandfiddler road. The jigs were 5/8th or 7/8th oz epoxy jigs. Thanks for watching

    Been using the Gotcha, Epoxy and a few other style of plugs in Manasquan Inlet the past 3 summers and have been doing very well with spanish mackerel.

    • @thelinecook
      @thelinecook  3 роки тому

      That’s awesome! I tried last year for Mack’s 1 time at manasquan, saw a blitz but couldn’t get any to hook up. Maybe this year!

    • @Skolmann
      @Skolmann 3 роки тому +1

      @@thelinecook most of the time when I catch Mack’s at the inlet just by blind casting an epoxy when I take a break from fluke fishing or if I see one follow up my fluke bait.

    • @thelinecook
      @thelinecook  3 роки тому

      @@Skolmann that’s a good idea, last year I was at the end of the jetty and saw them busting but I couldn’t hook up with epoxies. Maybe I was doing something wrong. I’ll definitely try to get them this year!

    • @Skolmann
      @Skolmann 3 роки тому +1

      @@thelinecook I usually fish by the gazebo/Fisherman Monument at the west end of the inlet on the Pt. Pleasant side. Great spot for fluke. In addition, I’ve caught more than my share of Spanish macs, Bonito and false albacore there. Anyway, I usually allow the expos jig to sink for a 3-5 second count before I start a medium retrieve. Like I said it’s mostly blind casting and I like to cast up current. Only time I’ll burn the retrieve back is when I see fish on top or busting bait.

    • @thelinecook
      @thelinecook  3 роки тому

      @@Skolmann that’s really interesting! They usually come far in the inlet like that? Thanks for the tips, I’ll definitely try again this year. I was burning epoxys in but nothing! Maybe I should have slowed it down a bit.
