While dancing around it, you neglected to mention the similarities, plot-wise between Terra and Aerith. Both hybrids raised by their respective Empires in hopes of usung their innate magic for world domination. Celes, as one of the first successful stable Magitek Knights who nonetheless rebels and joins a terrorist group is related to Cloud, or more accurately, the persona he appropriated; Zack
The biggest parallels in human experimentation aren't between Kefka and Sephiroth, but Celes and Sephiroth. The biggest difference is the kind of relationship they had with the respective scientists in charge of that experimentation. Hojo was a hands-off biological father to Sephiroth, while Cid was like a mentor with an kind of familial affection for Celes, unspoken until the World of Ruin.
I always thought Vincent was Sephiroth's biological father. He did have an intimate relationship with Lucrecia. I figured once she got pregnant, she told Hojo who then manipulated her into being a guinea pig.
It's worth noting that Kefka speaks in many ways in Japanese that are less subtle than they are in English. He uses three distinct self-pronouns and copulas (words for "is"). He typically uses watashi wa...desu. 私は~です。 when speaking calmly; ore wa...da! 俺は~だ! (or even ore sama 俺様) when angry; bokuchin wa...da zo! ぼくちんは~だぞ! when speaking gleefully or with crazed vigor. The first is polite and neutral, the second is violent, aggressive, and sometimes self-aggrandizing, and the third resembles something like a preschooler kicking over his blocks while pretending to be Godzilla. It's interesting to read the script in its original form to see how a former top soldier's mind became shattered into so many different pieces that seemed to be fighting over his own choice of words.
Two incredibly well done antagonists. Kefka does the things he does for no reason other than that he wants to and Sephiroth does what he does because he believes he has to. Kefka is a calculated, god-complex wielding psychopath and Sephiroth is a calculated, god-complex wielding anti-Christ

Well… shadow’s real name sounds like “Cloud”. And Setzer and sephiroth hair are similar… what if midgar was built in the ruins of the tower of Kefka? What if the cetra were the thamasians?
I'm a simple man. Final Fantasy Union uploads and I click the video for amazing content. This is a great comparison to do! Both terrifying villains in their own right! Great job as always!
To be fair you can find a lot of similarities between 6 and 7. It's like 6 is prototype 7, but you see that with a lot of things :). Pretty cool of you ask me and why 7 and 6 and my top 2 favorite FF games.
Easily the best two big bads of the series. Kefka will always be my personal favorite as he’s the only one to truly succeed in becoming a god and destroying the world. I mean part 2 of FF6 is basically every other game if the final boss wins at the end and you have to play a second game to truly beat them.
Speaking of the music, how many of you noticed that the tune for Sephiroth's theme actually made it's debut as part of the first phase of the final battle in FF6?
Yes but the music are too perfect and iconic for the character explain too much the sing, dancing mad is complex but not for the character is for the notes, kefka is a villain but too poor for the game yes is evil but for what, the true reason experiments only this poor excuse for a become a god but kefka dont have inteligent plans of master mind this too impulsive and caotic for a god yes kefka destroy soo much but the hope of people are invencible and the world dont end yes become more dangerous but the hope this a powerful weapon more what magic, kefka died with the magic, kefka never planed became a god yes wanted power and caos but never planed nothing ok in short kefka is a simple villain what becomin a god only say a want ....... is a plot divice really bad.
Celes, who's technically the main character of the second half of FFVI, has more in common with Cloud or Sephiroth than Terra. Just sayin'. Otherwise, a great video!
A friend of mine once jokingly referred to Cloud as "fake man Celes", and I realized that implicitly made Sephiroth "man Celes". There's a whole lot more going on there than with Kefka, though, if you wanted, you could add him in as "bad end Celes".
Certainly there are similarities I didn't notice before, I guess you could extend some similarities to Kuja, since he was also created through experimentation, the pain and despair drove him to madness, and attained god-like powers before his eventual fall
It is indeed interesting to see the differences and common elements between each of them, and on the other side, to see how both Terra and Cloud suffered in mirroring manners.... I am particularly fond of Terra myself, so it is sad for me knowing what happened to her.
They won’t. Heck we begged and begged for FFVIIR and now it’s 2/3 done we still complain. If I was them after the last part I would chill out. Somebody from the original team would need to head any future remakes.
It is kinda interesting that you made parallel videos about different characters in FF7 because you tell us some of the history of the characters or simple details that can be missed or we don't know. I hope you make more and include FF16 in the future.
This also implies that FF6 is also stuck in a time loop, meaning effectively the world is headcanonically always tearing itself apart because Kefka’s gaining of the Warring Triad’s power will keep happening.
Well if you have the opportunity to read der golem, and you get to understand what a golem is and what it represents you will notice that Kefka and Sephiroth are inspired by the same idea, kefka is as the tharot card of the foul, and also the magician both represent the beginning and the end, kefka is a golem as well sephiroth is a golem, the name itself tells that, sephiroth is the emanation of a god, that represents a new being and brings the caos after getting conscience about himself, kefka and sephiroth are both golems
Im respect your opinion but Ardyn this more complex what kefka for meny reasons,ff6 is not the center of final fantasy, yes is a good game but is not perfect or a master piece, this is especial game,ff15 is good but look good but change too much to the formula, also a incomplete story and problems of bugs and fps and more and more,ff15 is good dont as the another ff.
Exactly. For me, I prefer & like Sephiroth more as a villain because of how he was represented, but Kefka is still a very good villain in his own right.
People like to put Sephiroth down and say how great Kefka is because he reminds them of the Joker. But Seph is like if you combined Superman with Norman Bates. I think that's pretty interesting too.
@@loboneiner1034More evil doesn't mean more interesting. I still see lists saying Kefka is the best FF villain. Anyway it's all moot. During these past 2 years I discovered it's Emet-Selch who takes the crown.

You should do a video exploring the parallels between Sephiroth and Darth Vader. I've often heard it said that Kefka is The Joker of Final Fantasy while Sephiroth is Vader (besides the obvious fact they're tall, menacing and dress in black.) They're both fallen angel-type characters driven insane by dark controlling forces. Sephiroth's razing of Nibelheim echoes Anakin's slaughter of the Jedi Temple. They were both members of an elite order and chafed under the authority of people they deemed inferior (Shinra/Obi-wan.) They both lacked a father growing up and formed an unusual bond with their mothers, which started them on the path to their downfall. Both were created through unnatural means (it's suggested that Palpatine created Anakin.) They were both defeated by the hero shortly after turning evil, leaving them in a weakened state (Anakin was burned on Mustafar, Sephiroth fell into the Lifestream.) Both were arguably puppets of the true villains of their respective stories. I'm sure you can find more similarities. The major differences are that Sephiroth has no love interest and seems to be asexual, whereas Anakin's love for his wife was the main reason for his fall, and he doesn't redeem himself by destroying Jenova at the end. Although who knows, that could well happen in the Remake.
I've been referring to Kefka as Darth Joker for a while, personally. He basically has the personality of The Joker but the role of Darth Vader, including betraying his "master" in [what appears to be] the big climax. (Since he's The Joker, though, that just pushes the plot into the World of Ruin instead of a denouement.) Recently, I've also taken to referring to Sephiroth as Lavos Jr., since Jenova is basically Lavos and Sephiroth inherits/claims Jenova's role as a planet parasite.
Let’s go over the similarities 1. Were failed experiments trying to create a super soldier from an ancient race 2. Were seen as heroes and highly regarded in the military 3. Due to the experiment go insane craving only the destruction of all things 4. Are main villains in their respective games 5. Are always a prominent threat often coming to the heroes 6. Actually somewhat succeeded in their plans 7. Have a final form that is very much inspired by biblical scripture depicting a sort of angel
Wow. That sure brought back some memories. Two of the most amazing RPGs ever. If asked, it's difficult for me to pick my favorite, and probably it's not necessary to particularly have one. Both go above and beyond. Thanks for the video FFU
Excellent video! I had forgotten that at least one Cid was not a good guy. I had also forgotten the horrific scientific experiments that took place in both games. I guess it’s been a long time since I played them. Slightly off tangent but, lately I looked at Sephiroth and Zenos and felt they were similar as well. But maybe it’s just from an aesthetic viewpoint. Thank you for this video. Stay safe. ❤️ PS: The Final Fantasy series is so much darker then I remembered. 😱
Good video but giant angel wings weren't so much a Kefka/Seph thing as it was just Square's thing in general. 99% of their final bosses had giant angel wings tacked on around then...
Chaos-none Matheus? Hell Matheus No but Heaven Matheus obviously will have them CoD? no Zeromus? no Exdeath? no Kefka and Sephy obviously yes Ultimecia? no Kuja and Necron? no Jecht and Yu Yevon? No Vayne and Venat? Orphan and Caius? No Bhunivelze? Obviously yes as he's literally mainly inspired by Abrahamic God Ardyn? No Ultimalius? Arguably no Stop the *CAP*
I can just imagine Seph's birth. "Push Lucretia! The baby's coming! Do I...do I here..music coming from in...you know?" *sound of fully orchestrated One-Winged Angel coming from within Lucretia's womb* "Oh lawd, he comin!"
Well you see I accomplished this by a little known crossover. The Decepticon called Soundwave was investigating the ease of turning Mako into Energon. He decided to join me in Lucretia's womb and compressed himself down to the size of a dime. Then he played my song at a loud volume to celebrate my birthday. I gave him my thanks and swore that if I should ever cross paths with Optimus Prime that I would unleash Bahamut Zero and turn Optimus into slag.
It's interesting to consider that both Kefka and Sephiroth are actually consquences of another villain in their respective games, who are later overthrown by their creations. If not for Emperor Gestahl, and Jenova/Professor Hojo, Kefka and Sephiroth would not exist.
Esp if it's done exactly like the FF4 remake in 3D on the PC. There is no reason for Square to go overboard like FF7R, mostly because the game is still unfinished. If you want a full, complete version of FF6 that is faithful to the original game, quite honestly the way they handled the 3D remake of the PC port is the best way to remake FF6.
@@slusheewolf2143 I would be excited if they did a ff4 style remake. If they do a ff7 remake style where they changed the whole game play I'd rather they leave it alone

I love Kefka as a villain about as much as Sephiroth, but only for my nostalgia. He's still a good antagonist who does have some pretty good build-up and is remarkable for being the first Final Fantasy villain that technically wins. And his theme is easily the Magnum Opus of the legendary composer: Nobuo Uematsu. But that's about it. As a character, he's not much more interesting than the Emperor from FFII. Granted, that's only in regards to the original Japanese script, where he wasn't given nearly as good lines as what Ted Woolsey would give in localization. Sephiroth, on the other hand, is fantastic as an antagonist. He's consistently making a presence, maliciously fucking with Cloud's mind, and has more focus on his background, which makes you kind of sorry for him. He was lied to, and was never given mental help he definitely needed. He's still the antagonist and has no remorse for his evildoing, but that thought was always in the back of my mind once I found that out. I still love both as villains.
There is a video I watched recently that posited the idea that Kefka is the main character of FF6. It's an interesting watch. I love both games, but FF6 is incredibly special, and what it was able to achieve in 1994 on the SNES in in terms of storytelling and its characters is amazing!
I think similarities in originals are that both Villains work by performance. Neither have that deep back-ground search and settle their roles early on. It is how they serve those roles, which make them work. Kefka makes show-biz, Sephy plays by omission, just leaving trails and showcases of power. I think Sephiroth suffers a bit from these later pear-selling performances cause those undermine a little bit which made his character interesting in the first place.
A lot of the FF6 bosses were actually quite nasty if you fought them as intended. They just had different weaknesses you could exploit through creative use of spells/accessories.
Two many fans decide to need to pick which is better instead of looking at the final fantasy franchise as a whole and taking in the fact that we truly have some amazing villains. These two are some of the most iconic in gaming. Period.
I love your guys content. I was wondering if you had any plans on covering speedruns of each final fantasy game under tour complete evolution series. A good reference would be summoning salts videos. I would watch those frequently and no one to my knowledge has videos discussing the evolution of speedrunning for the final fantasy games. Is that something you guy would be willing to do?
Majority will favor Sephiroth. His design, music and wanting to torture Cloud stand out for me. Kefka on the other hand is just the chef's kiss of Final Fantasy villains. He becomes a successful calamity of global proportions.
Well Sephiroth has gotten more sympathy, which may be from the game able to tell more about him. Kefka is hated cause he is so forefront in the game causing trouble. I don't choose. They both work for their games. However, Kefka is definitely more powerful.
The music from the FF6 opera scene clearly got reused as Aerith's theme. Also prior to FF6, Final Fantasy was a medieval fantasy series without technology - FF6 introduced the plot of "evil tech empire draining magic from nature" pollution analogy with the Espers, that was refined with the materia / mako plot of FF7.
Also, I like how it seems to be, that FF6 and FF7 after looking it in have the same director. So it would make since from that, that they would have some things in common with their villains.
Well they are the only two Final Fantasy villains who are actively antagonistic to eachother with no subterfuge ( which is out of character for Kefka). In Disidia.
I personally also saw Sephiroth as a parallel to FF1’s Sir Garland. A genuinely beloved, loyal and noble warrior who suddenly goes off the deep end hard, becoming the starter villain for our main protagonists (as the first boss in Garland’s case, and a previous enemy defeated in backstory in Sephiroth’s), before suddenly being revealed to be back and taking their spot as the central antagonist
I always thought it was because 6 was being built similtaneously as a 3d game like 7 was but they decided to keep 6 on Super and used the 3d bones of 6 to make 7 hence the similarities...I believe there is a demo of 6 you can play on playstation 1 on either 7 or 8 extra discs.
The coolest way ive ever beat Sephecroth was one time I wasn't paying attention and sepheroth attacked me leaving me at one health, but because I'd equipped the counter materia no omnislash was needed to defeat him, giving him the ultimate anime dual.
I always like to picture FF characters as if they're Square Enix employees playing roles in the games, but actually being really chill with each other in real life. However, Kefka actually still hates Sephiroth with a vengeance because he was the titular/poster villain of FF until Seph came along and easily nabbed the title for himself. And since then, there's always been this fierce rivalry between them, except Seph legit doesn't care about Kefka and sees him as a bygone era, while Kefka sees him as an undeserving upstart who rode his coattails to success. Meanwhile, while Cloud is THE poster boy for the company, he doesn't care about the title and hates all the attention he gets from everyone. He always has to show up at the global game conferences, the autograph booths, so many cross-promos and commercials, etc. It's all such a pain. And it's even more of a pain that he still has to watch out on company grounds for Sephiroth and Kefka because they both hate him for being said poster boy. Terra, while well respected and dearly loved in the ranks herself, is the quiet but hardworking one who keeps to herself most of the time. Naturally, she and Cloud came to have a rather wholesome friendship and she'd even act as his confidant for all his workplace woes. Hilarity ensues whenever the four meet in the break room, which happens more often than not.
"That's not to say they're the best antagonists grace the franchise" Uh sir... Kefka IS the best antagonist to grace the franchise!....haha but seriously though, he's always been my favorite of any of them
Looking at the game overall I'm not sure you could call Sephiroth the main antagonist, but perhaps the final one. Jenova is arguably the main antagonist since she (it?) plays a vital role in nearly every plot of not only the core game, but most of the FF7 anthology.
What makes Kefka and Sephiroth great in my opinion is that unlike many of the FF villains, they actually have a relation with the protagonist and their actions are the direct cause of the protagonists’ sufferings. For example, Kefka enslaved Terra for years and used her to murder people unwillingly, causing her to have underdeveloped emotional growth and lack of free will or control of her powers. Sephiroth murdered Cloud’s mother, burnt his hometown and nearly killed Tifa. Best part is, these 2 villains were themselves also screwed over before they decided to screw with the protagonists. Kefka was similar to Terra in that the experiments performed on him damaged his sanity and his mental health. Sephiroth lost his identity because he found out he was partially the son of an alien. Kefka and Sephiroth share many similarities with and have personal connections with their protagonists, and that’s what made them well-written villains to me. You don’t see ExDeath or Cloud of Darkness having a connection to their respective protagonist. All they do is “AAHHAH I am suddenly born powerful. I don’t give a shit about life and I only care about black voids. I’m so generic dark villain”
Ultimecia beat everybody, controlled the earth and was only defeated after battling other timelines, Kuja beat both Garland and his opponents and followed this up by destroying a planet and Ardyn orchestrated everything to his will and then proceeded to rule over Insomnia for a decade. Kefka's feats don't make him a good villain, any villain can be written with astonishing feats but this doesn't make them a great villain, just a strong one. Kefka's a good villain, but he's attracted a cult following that's almost as weird as he is.
If anything, Kefka failed cause of his evil desire to see people suffer, rather than simply destroying the world in total. Sephiroth was just mistaken about what meteor was. But Kefka came the closest of a villian.
one key difference between sephiroth and kefka: kefka was always a monster, sephiroth only became a monster when he finds out who his mother was. i kinda wonder what a timeline would be like if sephiroth never found out about jenova.
Had he never found out, Sephiroth continuing as Shinra's number one lackey is still very bad anyway. They'd just be swapping out the immediate threat with the long term one.
The Jenova cells within Sephiroth would've influenced him towards the same path over a longer time regardless, except that he may not have been the one in control due to failing to understand the connection. Much like how Sephiroth was only able to exert his will over Cloud when Cloud's memories and sense of identity were muddled by Hojo's mako/jenova cell experiments, Sephiroth would've been susceptible to Jenova's corrupting influence and might've had his own will taken over.
@@-Keith- I don't think so. One important factor that prevents Jenova's influence/Reunion Instinct from corrupting the various Soldiers across all classes, including Sephiroth, was their relatively strong will. A person has to be a somewhat poor state and mentally unfit to succumb to it. This is the reason why the test subjects for Hojo's Reunion theory were comprised of survivors from the Nibelheim incident and other weak people. They were far from being in the best condition, both physically and mentally, so he knew that putting them through the same process as what makes Soldiers would guarantee to damage their minds instead, thus rendering them susceptible to the Reunion Instinct. Even when Sephiroth himself took control of it, his influence didn't manage to corrupt Soldiers either. The only noticeable effect shown in the game was one ex-Soldier working in Junon feeling compelled to start wearing a black cloak later in the game (a humorous gag btw). However, he never became a mindless drone and went off for the Reunion. With all that said, VII Remake does introduce a bit of backstory for one of the test subjects/Sephiroth copies shown in Part 1, stating that he himself used to be in Soldier. This indicates that, with enough trauma, it might be possible for them to become weak enough to fall under control. As such, it could be possible for Sephiroth to wind up in a similar situation if he were to have been rendered catatonic or something, depending on just how resistant his mind would've been in such a state. However, if he were to have remained as he was without ever falling into such a condition, Jenova's influence would probably never have an effect.
@@Sawngawkuh Let me clarify, I was talking about a timeframe of years to decades for the corrupting influence to take effect. By the events of the Nibelheim incident, Sephiroth was already described as cold and disconnected, and showed an increasing love of battle. He was already considering retiring from Shinra over the Angeal and Genesis incidents which had a significant effect on his personality. Hojo certainly would've still run experiments on Jenova's body as well in an attempt to fulfill his reunion theory. And all this time, Jenova was in a state of stasis. Without the knowledge of his connection to Jenova, Sephiroth was unable to exert his will upon her. It was only after learning the truth that he was able to recognize the connection and exploit it. What happens if/when Jenova's body were to wake up on its own, rather than being awoken by Sephiroth's will from the lifestream? Doubtless she would've been able to exert an even greater influence over those who had her cells within them. Even in the current timeline with Sephiroth exerting his will upon Jenova, he still takes up the desire to use the planet as a vessel to travel the cosmos in order to drain other planets of their life energy. This was never HIS goal, this was Jenova's desire and influence manifesting itself upon Sephiroth even though he's the one in control. So I find it very likely that even with a strong will, an unaware Sephiroth would still gradually decline into madness. Especially if/when Jenova regained consciousness on its own.
@@-Keith- Problem with this is that it's based on conjecture, since it was never established if Jenova's will was that much stronger when out of stasis, or if her cells led to a long term, gradual corrosive influence on people. Sephiroth's demeanor during his time prior to his turn wasn't the product of his nature, but because he was raised as Shinra's number one lapdog, and had an underlying superiority complex brought about by him growing up thinking he had a special existence, which he himself confessed. Then he kept latching onto justifications to assert his superiority over others after being unable to cope with being the product of an experiment. Initially, he believed it was his right to rule over the world when he still thought he was an Ancient. Then, he wanted to become a god after learning the truth during his time in the Lifestream and absorbing a lot of knowledge and spiritual energy within it. He even brags about being superior to both humans and the Cetra after Aerith states he's not an Ancient at the TotA. Ultimately, while on the surface it seems awfully convenient and suspicious, him becoming Jenova's successor is less of an influence and more of a thematic element in the story, where Sephiroth's sense of superiority and hunger for more power wound up making him the absolute extreme of what Shinra and Jenova were doing to the world the past.
Bahamut Lagoon was released almost two full years after FFVI, so it would have been long since finished by the time they started on Bahamut Lagoon. There's not a lot of translated information on the development of Bahamut Lagoon- that I'm aware of, at least- but I'd imagine they probably didn't really start working on the game until after Chrono Trigger (95) was finished.
I hate to say this, yet I am going to anyway. Your voice is so "comforting" that to actually LISTEN to what is being talked about is quite difficult. I just watched nearly half of the video and I still have no idea what is going on, beside the title clearly telling me what is being talked about.
This is a FF6 vs FF7 debate it always is. Based on how the two games contrasted each other in numerous elements. Terra and Cloud are basically similar as a puppet soldier controlled by two opposing main villains. Kefka and Sephiroth whom they are desired to become a god and dominate the world in the palm of their hands. The Empire and Shinra are greedy organisation wishing to seek power and glory for their own selfish gain. That's how 6 and 7 have similarities.
Ardyn played into what Bahamut really wants, the sacrifice of the House of Lucis. In the end he’s just a pawn in Bahamut’s hand, so I don’t think he “won” anything.

@@ryuixyui It's funny you crap on the most famous villains of the series and the one you say is the only one worth remembering I had to google cause I have literally never heard his name in any Final Fantasy discussion ever.
Wow, even looking Back at dissadia, I see why they kind of seen together a few times. At first I thought they would hate each other but I believe they would actually get along and could relate on their past.
I would love a final fantasy 6 and 7 crossover. Other than dissdia or a spin off
Well… shadow’s real name sounds like “Cloud”. And Setzer and sephiroth hair are similar… what if midgar was built in the ruins of the tower of Kefka? What if the cetra were the thamasians?
@@raffausfaus
Maybe the Thamasuans are Mysidians?
I'm a simple man. Final Fantasy Union uploads and I click the video for amazing content. This is a great comparison to do! Both terrifying villains in their own right! Great job as always!
My two favorite ultimate villains, together!? In one video!? Oh Universe, what have I done for thee that I deserve such pleasantries??
To be fair you can find a lot of similarities between 6 and 7. It's like 6 is prototype 7, but you see that with a lot of things :). Pretty cool of you ask me and why 7 and 6 and my top 2 favorite FF games.
Easily the best two big bads of the series. Kefka will always be my personal favorite as he’s the only one to truly succeed in becoming a god and destroying the world. I mean part 2 of FF6 is basically every other game if the final boss wins at the end and you have to play a second game to truly beat them.
Back when I 1st played dissidia 1st thing I noticed how similar was Exdeath and Golbez armor was
Speaking of the music, how many of you noticed that the tune for Sephiroth's theme actually made it's debut as part of the first phase of the final battle in FF6?
Ol Seph and Kuja's themes both technically come from FF5
@@ilikestuff9250 the music has similar notes but is not the same.
They both have that amazing and shocking stage presence , indeed
Celes, who's technically the main character of the second half of FFVI, has more in common with Cloud or Sephiroth than Terra. Just sayin'. Otherwise, a great video!
A friend of mine once jokingly referred to Cloud as "fake man Celes", and I realized that implicitly made Sephiroth "man Celes". There's a whole lot more going on there than with Kefka, though, if you wanted, you could add him in as "bad end Celes".
Or even Zack.
I honestly always thought of her as the main character idgaf what people say.
@@Zephhi Terra's indisputably the main character through the World of Balance, but Celes takes over in the World of Ruin.
Sorry but celes is not the main character in ff6 is terra the entire adventure.
What happened to terra??
@analyticalhabitrails9857
Nothing. She lost her powers as magic disappeared, and lived as a human.
A fully realized modern remake of ff6 would be amazing
Maker of final fantasy series talk about try to make it
lol won’t ever happen. They said it would take 20 years.
@@DoeRecompense that's dumb and false. They just don't want to do it lol
I'd settle for an Octopath Traveler style remake. They did that with the opera house in the pixel remaster but not the rest of the game.
I've always noticed many parallels between the two, it's really cool
2:15 So Kefka originally was in FF8.
Nice one.
This also implies that FF6 is also stuck in a time loop, meaning effectively the world is headcanonically always tearing itself apart because Kefka’s gaining of the Warring Triad’s power will keep happening.
We really need to see Sephiroth in Wutai. There's so much of his character that was left criminally unexplored.
Awesome video! I'd love to see more comparisons like this.
They’re easily my 2 favorite final fantasy villains next to Ardyn
Ardyn heavily aped elements of the two so that makes a lot of sense, FF15 in general borrows a lot from FF6 actually.
@@GodOfOrphans Ardyn is like if Kefka and Sephiroth fused together.
They're both great in their own ways. No need to fight about it.
Exactly. For me, I prefer & like Sephiroth more as a villain because of how he was represented, but Kefka is still a very good villain in his own right.
@@Lone_Wolf_Hero exactly
But what else would blind fanboys fight about
@@kclink1579 can't think of anything else lol
Wrong. Sephiroth is a much more interesting villain, he epitomises FF more than any other character.
People like to put Sephiroth down and say how great Kefka is because he reminds them of the Joker. But Seph is like if you combined Superman with Norman Bates. I think that's pretty interesting too.
Funny you say that considering how 2/3 of Sephiroth's English voice actors were superman
I find them both to be pretty compelling villains.
I don't see people put him down. I just see people saying Kefka is more evil which I agree with. Sephiroth is still cool
@@loboneiner1034More evil doesn't mean more interesting. I still see lists saying Kefka is the best FF villain. Anyway it's all moot. During these past 2 years I discovered it's Emet-Selch who takes the crown.

i always told people that 6 and 7 were remarkably similar in a lot of ways, but I couldnt fully explain what i meant, this definitely helped me understand my own feelings about thses games more. thank you for making these videos!
You should do a video exploring the parallels between Sephiroth and Darth Vader. I've often heard it said that Kefka is The Joker of Final Fantasy while Sephiroth is Vader (besides the obvious fact they're tall, menacing and dress in black.)
They're both fallen angel-type characters driven insane by dark controlling forces.
(Since he's The Joker, though, that just pushes the plot into the World of Ruin instead of a denouement.)
Recently, I've also taken to referring to Sephiroth as Lavos Jr., since Jenova is basically Lavos and Sephiroth inherits/claims Jenova's role as a planet parasite.
Let’s go over the similarities
1. Were failed experiments trying to create a super soldier from an ancient race
2. Were seen as heroes and highly regarded in the military
3. Due to the experiment go insane craving only the destruction of all things
4. Are main villains in their respective games
5. Are always a prominent threat often coming to the heroes
6. Actually somewhat succeeded in their plans
Love getting these notifications on my day off!
Stay safe. ❤️
PS: The Final Fantasy series is so much darker then I remembered. 😱
Good video but giant angel wings weren't so much a Kefka/Seph thing as it was just Square's thing in general. 99% of their final bosses had giant angel wings tacked on around then...

😄 🤣 😂
It's interesting to consider that both Kefka and Sephiroth are actually consquences of another villain in their respective games, who are later overthrown by their creations. If not for Emperor Gestahl, and Jenova/Professor Hojo, Kefka and Sephiroth would not exist.
they had the same director, Yoshinori Kitase, so it's not surprising how much FFVI and VII are alike.
Y'all make some of the best Final Fantasy content. If I could I would be a patron rn
Looking forward for a 3D-version of Final Fantasy 6 in the future
Esp if it's done exactly like the FF4 remake in 3D on the PC. There is no reason for Square to go overboard like FF7R, mostly because the game is still unfinished. If you want a full, complete version of FF6 that is faithful to the original game, quite honestly the way they handled the 3D remake of the PC port is the best way to remake FF6.

Finally Someone that Aknoledges the similarities between the two of the best FF Antagonists / Villains of All Time...GOOD JOB!!
I recently took up playing VI again and as an adult can absolutely see many similar ideas and concepts that were fleshed out more in VII
Tbh that these two characters have so many parallels is why I’m so frustrated by fans who’ll say one or the other is objectively better. They’re both great villains, and I’m tired of the dumb fights.
Though there are plenty of FF fandom fights that never end I could go on about, alas. ~_~
As antagonists work,
They're both great.
In combat, Kefka wins!
This is why those are my favorites villains ever
Where is this video?
@@Dracobyte Here it is: ua-cam.com/video/omFA1o_mL9k/v-deo.html
I think similarities in originals are that both Villains work by performance. Neither have that deep back-ground search and settle their roles early on. It is how they serve those roles, which make them work. Kefka makes show-biz, Sephy plays by omission, just leaving trails and showcases of power.
I think Sephiroth suffers a bit from these later pear-selling performances cause those undermine a little bit which made his character interesting in the first place.
Sephiroth in the start are not crazy, kefka crazy of the start.
Love ur videos keep it up
But even though they were each strong in their own right, none of them were actually a super boss.
Brachosaur: Am I a joke to you?
Vanish-Doom Glitch: "Yes."
A lot of the FF6 bosses were actually quite nasty if you fought them as intended. They just had different weaknesses you could exploit through creative use of spells/accessories.
Excellent work, as always.
I'm playing ff6 again and realize that it wasn't that Kefka succeeded as much as he was allowed to succeed
Interesting idea. Cant wait to see!
Great video bro.
Okay I’m just saying sephiroth and kefka as a team looks so cool it’s baffling no game has ever made them team up
The music from the FF6 opera scene clearly got reused as Aerith's theme.
In Disidia.
Kefka - Who are you?
Seph - I'm you but with Alien DNA.
Fascinating video!! Well done!
The virgin Kefka
The virgin Sephiroth
The chad Exdeath
........... Who?
One is actually insane, the other believes his own bullshit
This was a cool video, thanks team!
"That's not to say they're the best antagonists grace the franchise"
Uh sir...
Septhroth: Im gonna destroy the world
Kefka: and thats 456 WHOO HOOOO!
If your next video is what I thought this video was at first glance, "The Chilling parallel between Kafka and Sephrioth," I'm all in.
Kefka beat his opponents, rearranged the earth and ruled over it for about a year…
Kefka followed Ghestal's orders, betrayed him, and then pushed 3 statues.
@@Ukaran you know how heavy those statues are?
Ultimecia beat everybody, controlled the earth and was only defeated after battling other timelines, Kuja beat both Garland and his opponents and followed this up by destroying a planet and Ardyn orchestrated everything to his will and then proceeded to rule over Insomnia for a decade. Kefka's feats don't make him a good villain, any villain can be written with astonishing feats but this doesn't make them a great villain, just a strong one.
Kefka's a good villain, but he's attracted a cult following that's almost as weird as he is.
@@ClLouID go back and play or watch alenczdr video on kefka
I mean technically parallels are also kind of like. They're different sides/sometimes the same side of the same tropes.
So good!! I love these two villains and I was about to restart FFVI, now I’m gonna pay more attention to Kefka!!!
This is so interesting!
Kefka unlike most FF villains won and ruled his world… until eventually losing. He’s got that over Sephiroth who I adore.
If anything, Kefka failed cause of his evil desire to see people suffer, rather than simply destroying the world in total. Sephiroth was just mistaken about what meteor was. But Kefka came the closest of a villian.
one key difference between sephiroth and kefka:
kefka was always a monster, sephiroth only became a monster when he finds out who his mother was. i kinda wonder what a timeline would be like if sephiroth never found out about jenova.
One Random Question: I want to know if Squaresoft developed Bahamut Lagoon before FF6 or after FF6 before FF7?
Bahamut Lagoon was released almost two full years after FFVI, so it would have been long since finished by the time they started on Bahamut Lagoon. There's not a lot of translated information on the development of Bahamut Lagoon- that I'm aware of, at least- but I'd imagine they probably didn't really start working on the game until after Chrono Trigger (95) was finished.
@@NightshadeDt i hope there will be more information about that maybe in a video? That would be great :)
A topic that's come up in my FFXIV Free Company is comparing Kefka to Fandaniel and Sephiroth to Xenos.
The final battle scenes of both are pretty similar. It seems Square liked Kefka's scene so much, they tried to do the same with Sephiroth
i have never realise all the similarities
I would love an analysis between Ultimecia and Terra
I always liked Jeremy Jahn's idea that Kefka and Sephiroth were like the Joker and Darth Vader respectively. One is chaotic and the other is imposing.
Well interestingly, Kefka fools people into not taking him seriously with his clown ways. While Sephiroth is straight up respected and feared.

Thanks for this!
I almost feel like we can include Ardyn from FF15 with these two. He was also mis-used by a corrupt society and went mad.
Kafka is Sephiroth
I thought they're epic villains until I met Emet-Selch....
Irony is I feel the same, Kefka was my Favorite but liked Mateus and Golbez as well until I saw Emet and got to know him better.
It's not chilling when you realize that ff7's story is literally just a redo of ff6's story with a different cast...
I hate to say this, yet I am going to anyway. Your voice is so "comforting" that to actually LISTEN to what is being talked about is quite difficult. I just watched nearly half of the video and I still have no idea what is going on, beside the title clearly telling me what is being talked about.
Do you have a UA-cam channel that uploads your twitch streams?
9:56 You mean her?
"as with Terra" is an aside, the subject of that sentence was still Cloud
Kekfa and Sephi are like Batman and Joker, two sides of the same coin.
Kuja the only one that actually full on destroyed a planet and Ardyn from FFXV actually won :P I think that should say something.
Ardyn played into what Bahamut really wants, the sacrifice of the House of Lucis. In the end he’s just a pawn in Bahamut’s hand, so I don’t think he “won” anything.
FF6 deserves a sequel more than any other game.
Kefka is pretty much just joker with magic.
Sorry but dont the joker this not only a crown caotic is a mindmaster kefka is not only evil yes joker is evil but is creative creator, kefka is not a good leader and not one respect, the joker is respect not only for batman, the ligue of justice and more is a dangerous guy but is carismatic, kefka this evilness comproment the missions of the impire and the emperator too benevolent with this fails yes sure and the power of god you wanted only say a become a wish is ridiculous and the kefka wins is not truth kefka no destroy the earth and dont have plants pure caos yes is the only thing what is kefka im not hate the character im hate the fan lieyers, kefka defeated is the end yes los spers died and the magic but the hope and dreams of people defeat this terrible scenario for the characters the true message of the game is good dont give up and the life is important im give kefka is the perfect example of one person who live for caos and hate.
