Believe it or not, in the current mobile game development climate it is pretty much standard for the development costs to be a small fraction of marketing. Merge mansion is pretty polished, but there are so many games that were probably made in 3 hours but have hundreds of thousands put into ad spend.
oh no the game is extremely good. i say this cause i have played it for 3 years straight. they have money to spend on celebrity appearances!
Pedro Pascal has talked about his love of iPad games in interviews and takes his iPad everywhere he goes. So it's not impossible to say he took the job partly because he enjoys playing the game, plus being offered a fuck ton of money.

“To catch a grandma you have to think like a grandma” is so funny to me because I literally work in a nursing home. I am very well versed in thinking like a grandma to try and figure out what the hell these residents are doing.
Also, grandmas are very much capable of committing murder. One of our residents has a wife who has tried to kill him twice. She is no longer allowed around him unsupervised.

The knife scene literally made me laugh out loud. I played this game for years and you have to merge so many freaking knives to make all the other tools you need. So the shed full of knives was like a joke referencing the actual gameplay.

After his role in the Last Of Us and The Mandalorian Pedro decided to take a more serious route and star in a Merge Mansion ad.
As someone who has played Merge Mansion since long before I ever even saw the ads, the mystery element is in the game. But not only about whatever murder the grandma committed, but also just about their family in general. Like a random butler showing up once you've advanced far enough to open like a shed or something, and the grandma having a brother the granddaughter didn't know existed.
And every time you get one step closer to maybe understanding what the hell is going on, grandma has to go because "her pie is done" or "the mailman is here" or something like that.
Thats why I stopped playing lol. I found it forever ago randomly and got tired of playing for two minutes before having to wait hours to keep playing. I was invested in the story line though and also got irritated that the grandma was always like, "oh? A real question to further the plot? I have to plant a cake and bake a tulip."
Yeah I did not get that far. The merging mechanic got really old really quickly. I don't think you can make good progress on the game if you don't spend money

I actually have the game, it’s actually really good. Only problem is that the story in the ads is completely different to the actual game, like it’s just merging random items and maybe getting the Grandma to say “Oh I knew that guy” every 20 minutes.

Eh I’m fairly far and she started talking about her prior arrest and then goes “but that’s a story for another time” or some shit
I asked my sister about it (she plays it) and it’s not the gritty crime mystery that ads portray it to be. It really is just the girl saying stuff like “is that a knife?” and grandma going “oh, the pie is ready!” and running off. I think if they actually put together an interesting plot line like they try to portray in these ads, they’d get way more people who not only try the game out, but actually stick around. If you do false advertising like this, a lot of the crowd you attract won’t be happy about being lied to
i enjoy the game, like i only play it to find out what the granny did and i refuse to look it up, the biggest problem with it is that it takes you literally FOREVER to get through everything. I have played it for like a year and ive only JUST reached the part where she unlocks the room inside the mansion where the old butler is stealing stuff, and granny gets arrested. it has taken so long. and i still have no clue what crime granny commits.
Yeah i got it like a week ago. It's very fun (although way too hard to get energy) but I'm on level like, 12 and the only sus thing grandma has done is allude to the fact that her husband didn't die of a heart attack.
Can confirm that the game has a bunch of random mystery stuff. The grandma got arrested and bailed out by a friend. She’s always dodging Maddie’s questions, and there was a bunch of stuff missing and you find out that the old butler is helping the grandmas brother steal things because the butler always treated grandma and her brother like his own and they loved him right back. Maddie wants to call the cops but the grandma lets the butler go as long as he promises to quit stealing.

They must have updated the game, ‘cause it had none of that when I was playing it last year. I got bored and stopped playing, but the ads were already in full swing while I was playing.
Ohmigosh, I’ve been playing for that long, too…but I had no idea about any of the storylines. I’ve been skipping all of that. The game is kind of addictive, but so frustrating, don’t you think? It takes forever to complete tasks because of the time/wait limit on some lightning items. And a bigger board would be nice. Though…I could be playing it stupidly.

They must have added that stuff recently because when I played it it was just merging garden equipment and crap to make stuff so you can open areas and decorate. There was no grandma getting arrested. There is no bailing out a jail. There was nothing like that...

As somebody who’s played Merge Mansion- it absolutely has the mystery element in the story. I’m not even kidding. The gameplay ads are actually pretty accurate and good, and the live action ads are just fun

Merge Mansion is actually a fun game if you dig merge games, and I gotta respect Pedro's hustle. Leonard Nimoy constantly did commercials both nationally and internationally, even when he was at the height of his fame. His son said Nimoy understood the Star Trek gravy train would end, and so he was the kind of actor who would take *any* acting job to ensure he was always earning. I get the feeling Pedro has the same mindset

as someone who's been playing this game daily for like 2 years they never actually say who's been killed or if someone was killed at all. the grandma just reveals small bits of family lore every now and then and then makes excuses and runs away before she can reveal anything actually important or incriminating

@TheRaquelephant the lore revealed via cutscenes, not really. personally I have pretty bad memory so by the time I get to the next cutscene I've pretty much forgotten the previous one. also because they keep updating the game characters keep showing up from nowhere and they never introduce them to me because I'm already past the part that would trigger the introduction cut scenes by the time they're added to the game so I got 0 context for 90% of the characters and lore. I've pretty much given up on following it by now I just play the game as it is. sometimes a certain series of items will reveal a story in the description of each item and I do enjoy reading those but that's it
The reason why they don’t know the crime or the victim, is because the grandma taped all her millions of knives together and bonked the detective on the head so hard he got partial amnesia.
Also, the real crime was the friends we made along the way. Or a murder or smth I’m not sure

As someone who plays this game religiously, i can confirm that they make bank and they recently got bought by meta. Also I’m pretty sure grandma is the suspect in grandpas murder, but the game seems to be hinting at him being alive and running around in the mansion somewhere. Also grandma has a side piece.
I feel like knowing that they got bought by Meta makes everything make 10000 times more sense. As somebody whose sunk many hours into Merge Mansion, I can confirm that Grandma is indeed hiding nothing, she did not kill anybody and it’s never brought up or alluded to, it’s just a normal mobile game where you fix up a house, oh sorry, a mansion

My conspiracy theory is that the only reason Merge Mansion is making millions of dollars is because Danny has talked about it so much that he got a large portion of their customer base into the game out of curiosity. Basically what I'm saying is, Danny indirectly hired Pedro Pascal to do a Merge Mansion ad. Take it or leave it.
