Just gotta comment- you're looking healthy man! Like a new person compared to your videos a year or 2 ago. Keep it up! Also thanks for these great videos, really helpful!
I love the fact that every video is essentially you just hammering the message LEARN THE CAGED SYSTEM AND THE ARPS/SCALE IN THOSE POSITIONS!!!!! Honestly, I mean it! It's keeping me on track to not just jam around with scales on backing tracks.
Good to hear about your sobriety friend - I struggle with that too. Some guitar player video makers drink beer while doing videos, which I would rather not see, so I don't watch after that. I make an exception for Justin Johnson with his whiskey bottles the background - he could shoot heroin and I'd still watch him! Seriously though, it IS a serious problem for many of us, and I appreciate your supportive words, but I especially appreciate your guitar playing and teaching. Cheers!
I love your honesty Guthrie and enjoyed meeting your parents too. You're looking great and sound magnificent - a real inspiration for us lesser, older mortals. Hang in there!
Thanks so much Mr Guthrie, you have such a great way of opening up understanding of this "Stick with Strings". But what really makes what you share so engaging is that you remain real, your humanity is displayed, and it disarms my frustrations with myself when i stub my toes...both on the guitar and in life. Thank you.
In regards to how I look at the guitar I feel am no longer boxed in. I now consider myself caged in. All the credit goes to you! Thanks so much Guthrie 🎸
Thanks Guthrie. You have given me a "major" breakthrough (pun intended) with those chord tones over the A and E bass. I've been on the verge of understanding how these concepts work together, for a while. Today was a special lesson for me.😃👍👍👍 I'm getting more fingers going and getting closer to Slowhand.
Another Trapp shoot finally. I noticed something was missing in my entertainment routine. I’m glad to see you getting some help. It takes a village to raise a career. Great content as usual. Thanks for what you do.
This is the Allman Brothers lesson. Very cool GT. I recently got on the Artist Works train and am finding the past exchanges super helpful. Looking forward to digging in further. Encourage others to give it a shake to get the full details of Guthrie’s black magic. Jump in folks.
Thanks for letting us in on your thoughts. You’re one of the players who play music that would be recognized and loved by anyone with a soul from any era, from Bach to Segovia to Atkins to Coltrane and beyond. About alcohol - my girlfriend has had a pancreatic issue so we both stopped drinking years ago. It’s had one difficult side effect - it’s hard for me to put up with musicians I’m trying to work or jam with who are on their third or fourth beer. It takes listening to and focus on the other players, not just on oneself, and those go out the window when booze takes over.
Congrats man, super proud of your mental and sober health commitment. Every day is a celebration of being "present" in life. Praying for your strength brother. Great to see you teaching and excited for current and future projects. Great lesson, I really nailing down the fundamentals, now to turn them into melodies. See you again in a couple weeks when I return home form Africa!
Love you brother, you were the deciding factor in getting an ES-335 style guitar. I know it sounds silly because so many great musicians have used ES-335, but your sound through one was the icing on the cake for me… thanks for these videos, they make my day every time.
I got a surf green tele because of him, of ebay, after I bought it, guy sends me an email saying he got it because of Guthrie lol!!! I lucked out because it's my main country guitar I gig weekly with
Thanks a lot for this lesson. This has been something I've been confused about. I have always been unclear if the key of the scales are changed over every chord progression...even just a simple 1 4 5. This helped a lot. If you could do more on the topic of key changes that would be awesome. Thanks so much
Guthrie, I love all these little observations / illuminations of the chord shapes and the scales, and how we are outlining the chord changes! Really helps reinforce the information in your Artist Works curriculum too! I really encourage y'all to check out Guthrie's program on Artist Works!!
Man you ramble on at the start of every one of these videos lol, but your genius so I hang on every word and especially every note ! Thank you for the super inspiring videos and lessons dudeski
Man Guthrie...you made a lot of these videos...and I am just now realizing how much you've shared...you made the light bulb come on for me about 6-8 months ago....and I'm stunned how much time was wasted in my life learning the wrong stuff....I actually did a year in music college and what you say in your free videos is worth 100 times what I paid in tuition and time. This video in particular was perfectly sequenced with where I'm applying focus right now...and you really nailed your explanation with solid examples and kept it concise. I can't thank you enough...and hope I'll get a chance to book some time with you....
I really appreciate these. Another excellent video man. Just love how much great stuff that gets packed into these. Thanks so much. And I hope the journey just keeps gettin better for ya!
You have done a great job with your weight control and now booze. If you can do that then there is not much that you can't overcome. Good on you from Down Under!
So first off, these are really great and useful ideas (as always). I had some fun playing around with all of this. Also I would love to hear more about what you are doing at 14:22. Can you expand on that? Thanks!
That intro sounds like you are riffin' to the theme from Cinema Paradiso. Beautiful Song and movie. Ennio Morricone...need I say more. Check out the original, Yo You Ma and Chris Botti and Pat Metheny versions.
This is the closest i have gotten to understand this. I wonder if you do a play by play review of left hand by covering this video later as “picture in picture”? Would like to hear the thought process, or the lessons or practice that unlocked this for you by connecting shapes.
Cheers lad great video do a version of freight train or an electric country version even better bro I love the trains as well !! Love your videos I’m Gona get over to artist works and join up for a year as I think I could benefit from your course I need to work the shit out of the cage system to know where I’m going anyway cheers from Ireland 🇮🇪 Brian all the best your an excellent teacher see you at artist works 🎸🎸🎸👍👍
Hey Guthrie, Would you mind showing us how you move so fluently between playing with your pick and then fingerstyle by placing your pick in between your index and middle fingers? How did you develop that habit so that you don't even have to think about it?
Actually, I see that at 13:31 when you have your right hand extended, you have it tucked under your RING finger! So...how do you move it around and secure it and not have it fall out of your hand!!??
Hey Guthrie been listening to you on UA-cam for a long time probably a year and a half anyway you talk about some of these clubs in Nashville that you play what does musician making Nashville in terms of a nightly wage when they go into a nightclub in Nashville and play with a group for four or five hours in a bar what’s usually the average pay I’m just curious I’m a weekend warrior I play up here in Ohio and you know just kind of curious
6 minutes before the guitar stuff starts is too long. Share all that stuff in the first 6 minutes with people you know personally. We get the message: you are a super cool and popular bloke that gets around and celebrates an incredible successful life.
Thanks Guthrie!
I'm 5 days no booze almost slipped yesterday but didn't I hope it gets easier I love your videos
Just gotta comment- you're looking healthy man! Like a new person compared to your videos a year or 2 ago. Keep it up! Also thanks for these great videos, really helpful!
Lookin and soundin better than ever G. Still hanging with you on Artist Works. You’re the man
man, what a shine way to explain the stuff, major scale is a mess to apply and you help very much. tks a lot!
I like the way your explanations are clear !

Thanks 🙏🏽 you’re apart of me rekindling my love for music. I’ve been in a bit of a box musically and you’re helping me step into something new.
I love your honesty Guthrie and enjoyed meeting your parents too. You're looking great and sound magnificent - a real inspiration for us lesser, older mortals. Hang in there!

I like your wit. lol! I'm also caged, but this cage allows one to break out.
I love everything you do

Great lesson GT. Also thanks for having the courage to speak about your struggles. The world would be a much better place if more people did.

Beautiful playing as usual
So first off, these are really great and useful ideas (as always). I had some fun playing around with all of this. Also I would love to hear more about what you are doing at 14:22. Can you expand on that? Thanks!

Sounds quite close to Dickey Betts line with the ABB
Funny thing. The ad before your video said “stop practicing scales” 😂
However,....again this is a good guitar lesson. Worth the 6 min wait
Much respect...
Now I understand that thing about 335’s with a great player behind it.
East Nashville!!!
Thank you.
❤️🎸🙏🏻 thank you
That’s the guitar from the left. Haha. That’s the REAL 59.

Hey Guthrie, Would you mind showing us how you move so fluently between playing with your pick and then fingerstyle by placing your pick in between your index and middle fingers? How did you develop that habit so that you don't even have to think about it?
You just do it… practice it
Actually, I see that at 13:31 when you have your right hand extended, you have it tucked under your RING finger! So...how do you move it around and secure it and not have it fall out of your hand!!??
How about a video on your right-hand techniques like that...hybrid, pick-hiding, etc.??
SHADES OF GAME OF THRONES
A masterclass
Congrats on the no booze!
lesson starts at 6:07
Hey Guthrie, is there a link to this reddit stream/video?
when I grow up I want to be Guthrie Trapp!!
Are you a comedian as well as a great guitarist, Guthrie! Lol.
I never thought of "Rap" as music but when I discovered how condusive it is to guitar
I had to reassess the situation...
Where in the heck have you been!!
Stay clear of Chris Ford!!
Guthrie Trapp reality show would be awesome
Hamster scales! Lol...
That's dickey Betts secret sauce!
Guthrie, why two sunburst 335s?
Why not?
👍👍👍
i must add; some drunk percussionist must have voted this thumbs down lol

You’re free to watch whatever channels you want. This is what I do here :)
I have been sober for 2 years. Stick to it brother
