I'd really like you to make an MKII and miniaturize the engine to fit into a custom frame and make it look like a bolter. Currently, the Nerf Gun only seems to be effective as a defensive weapon, providing suppressing fire. Hell, if you could make custom ammo from tougher material than foam, like high friction plastic or rubber, then you could increase the range exponentially.

From the look of the drop your maybe getting 80-90FPS. Increasing your cage crush to take advantage of the increased torque along with a gearbox to increase speed could probably get you up to maybe 180-190. You’d rip darts up but it would be a fairly viable open field blaster.
Thank you for doing this. I once had manic thoughts about hooking up a nitro motor to a Rapidstrike (the predecessor to the blaster in this video) to make an internal combustion powered flywheel blaster but you actually did it, you madman.

you should make motorized bicycle by attaching a weed Wacker or chainsaw engine to the inside of a bike and run a sprocket from the drive shaft to the wheel.
With harden steel, you should be able to heat it up then allow it to cool down slowly. This will make it softer, and easier to work with. Once you have finished the changes heat it back up then quench it, this will re-harden it. But you need to research the temperatures and quenching liquids for the steel you're working with, in-order to not have the results become to soft or to brittle.
If you ever want to revisit this idea to make it more effective, increase the crush (tighten the gap between the flywheels). In the hobby, aftermarket flywheel cages exist to increase muzzle velocities by decreasing the gap between flywheels by lower than 43mm or thereabouts.
I find this really cool but a lipo mod with complete gutting and replacement of parts in a rapidstrike would be all around better, but props to you I could never dream of being that good of an engineer

I think making it so the barrel actually affects the velocity by putting a smaller one would work but you should also rifle it so that the velocity is about as good as it's going to get
Should still tune the gearing to get the flywheels spinning faster, and maybe a custom flywheel cage that moves the flywheels a little closer together, it should be able to fire quite a bit harder with just a few small tweaks, then I'd be curious how it compares to normal modded flywheel blasters which hit around the 150fps mark last I checked.
If you want it to make more rpm and to launch the darts use a bit of rubber on the flywheels so the darts will grip better onto them and then make the pulley on the engine bigger

You'll find a lathe to be so useful in the shop. Bushings, spacers, threading and so much more. It's a must have tool.
