1:00 Nobody Knows You When You’re Down and Out - Eric Clapton 3:23 Make me a pallet on your floor - Mississippi John Hurt 5:10 Cocaine Blues - Townes Van Zandt
Sorry, "Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out" was initially written by Jimmie Cox. I got that info from Eric Clapton's "The Easy Guitar Book". Of course, my favorite version is Clapton's. Cheers !
I live in the UK so it is always a revelation to see and hear you travelling through the famous places I can only imagine, and reminisce about the people who rode through those lands searching for their new life, carrying their music with them, and playing around the camp fire every evening, wondering what the next day would bring. One can only imagine the courage they had,and be grateful that they passed that way.
I grew up, married my soulmate, raised four children, and taught for 30 years in Tucson. I make every effort NOT to return to that liberal armpit of a city.
Sedona, Arizona, home to red rock buttes, steep canyon walls, and pine forests....and also one of your biggest fans. Great video man, one of your best for sure!
MacGregor Young -- Weirdest thing: I just spent the last couple of hours today looking into moving to Sedona (all the way from Massachusetts!), and then I randomly click on this video (because I play guitar, so lots of guitar videos get recommended), and a guy from The Netherlands just happens to be there! What are the chances?! ;-) Anyway, I think it's one of the most beautiful places in this country.
@@skidjs not false. The modern music we all know comes from blues music. Rock and roll, metal, rap, pop. Most of your favorite artists probably became who they are because the Blues was invented so long before them.

Between Africa and the Mississippi Delta Blues lies a rhythm section of time, a boogie woogie era that was carved out of a Gourds. This magical music time was played on what some people call the 3 string boogie. I knew a man in Jackson, Mississippi who made these magical time pieces out of gourds he grew in Copiah County, which is ironically the birthplace of Robert Johnson. This man passed away after only making a few of these instruments, but his shop, research, and instruments were donated to the Smithsonian at their request by his lovely wife. I say this because much is said and written of the Blues but I would love to see great guitarist like yourself play the 3string boogie like my friend use to play because the 3 string boogie is to the blues as the blues is to the many genres of music today. Love your videos.
Are you a beginner to blues ? Want to practice your solo ? Jam to B.B king - Thrill is gone I used to do solo over it for months and i could always come up with tons of great ideas every single days! Excellent song to start
Beeing with the blues for a long time, in this case it's not the what but the how you are telling the story: what a great little piece of work this video is - Thanks a lot man!
Hats off to Paul. It takes a foreigner to expose us to the blues! Keep up the good work. Interviews and jamming with some blues players would be outstanding.

I hope someday you get to visit the southern United States so that you can see the types of landscape that these artists would’ve been familiar with. It’s very lush in that part of the country. Not at all desert. It’s actually very beautiful. It’s the people they lived around in the society they had to fight through that was the harsh and forbidding part. Hello from Texas.
Wat een super gaaf 'project' Paul! Niet alleen heerlijke tunes, maar vooral de diepte die het verhaal brengt en dan de backdrops om van te dromen. Heel erg goed gedaan!

I've played the Clapton version of this on unplugged for a longtime but very much enjoyed adding your intro to it which makes for a far more interesting beginning. Thanks
Your voice healed my crippling depression thank you. My brother didn't appreciate it though because he was trying to sleep, as I was holding my phone right in front of his face. However I'm sure he would of liked it if he wasn't trying to go to sleep. Also those cacti are epic but not as epic as your mighty fine beard.
