This is the first time I've watched this race since 2007. I was 10, we were in italy where my dad was racing at Monza, and i woke up to see him glued to the screen as Hamilton walked away from everyone. 100% core memory where I truly realised how much my dad liked racing. Awesome stuff to see again thanks Big Z!

If F1 would have a diamond collection this race must be there. Back in the day when extra wet conditions weren't a reason to cancel the race. We had a chance to see how many drivers are good in the wet including youngsters Hamilton, Vettel, Sutil and Kovalainen. Massa-Kubica battle for 6th was a moment to remember, just imagine how many 5 seconds track limits penalties they would get nowadays) Thanks a lot Zeddie, it was a cool sofa Sunday! 🏁✌

One of Lewis' greatest - and criminally forgotten - race wins.
Debut season in torrential conditions and set sail towards a dominant victory whilst making many behind look foolish.
In my opinion, that race performance from Hamilton was more impressive than the one he'd produce at Silverstone the following year.

First of all, thanks Big Zeddie once again. What an epic race!! Masterclass by Hamilton, he was under supreme pressure and he delivered this performance. Victory of a true champion. Kimi was sensational and it was the most underrated drive this season when you know the context imo. Horrible conditions, Ferrari putting him on the wrong tyres and it dropped him to p21. Plus Kimi desperately needed a podium to keep his chances to win the championship alive and he did it. The pressure was insane but he proved we don’t call him "Iceman" for nothing. Definitely one of his best drives

What an incredible race this is. Rewatching it for maybe only a second time since 2007 (I was 10yo) I'm just stunned by how much constant action there was, and how well James Allen and Martin Brundle did to keep on top of it considering I'm sure technology wasn't as good as it is now with telemetry and what they could see from the comm box TVs. Everything about it for me screams pure nostalgia and what I associate from that era of F1. Honestly makes me a little bit emotional, time moves past so fast. Still can't believe Lewis lost the title from here, maybe one day we'll learn more on why - but I'm happy Kimi took this one as it turned out to be his only one.

One of Lewis Hamilton's most remarkably overlooked victories was a masterclass in wet weather driving. Meanwhile, Toro Rosso experienced a bittersweet moment as they provisionally scored their first point of the season with Liuzzi finishing in 8th place. However, they were stripped of the point because Liuzzi had overtaken under yellow flag conditions, resulting in a 25-second time penalty that relegated him to 9th place. This penalty elevated Adrian Sutil to 8th place, awarding him and the ephemeral Spyker team their first and only point.

That's why, when you consider what happened in those 2 races, it seems that they did so deliberately at the behest of Bernie and Max. 20 second long gearbox problems and leaving a driver out on tyres where the whole world can see they're down to the canvas, and then not telling him about their condition as he enters a wet pitlane. Either way, given the shitshow at Mclaren, and despite the fact I believe they had the 2 best drivers, Kimi was excellent and The Ferrari was marginally the better car.

When I think about it, this season is quite similar to 1986, another 3 way title race. Lewis would be Nigel Mansell, the young charger that was odds on favorite to win the championship, Alonso would be Nelson Piquet, the wiley old fox & Raikkonen would be Alain Prost, letting the two teammates fight amongst themselves, picking up points when he can & winning races & eventually the championship when everything fell into place.

Tbh it wasn’t “Ferrari strategy” they tried to game the system by starting on the standard wet because their logic was when the SC was in and when the race starts the track conditions should be near standard wets conditions and the SC going around means lower chance of aquaplaning but the FIA clocked on to what they were trying to do

@@dazuk1969 I don't think it's the attempt to pass Alonso that cost him, he'd have still won the title easily if that was his only issue that race! @@BonnetLicker86313 That's a fair comment, and yes, many things happened in that race. The car conked out at some point which cost him time but he managed to get it going again. I think he had a flat as well ??. But I do think his poor start and that silly move on Alonso on the first lap was where he let it slip. But I agree, the following year he seemed to do everything he could to not win the title.
