A little free and easy with rhythm but beautifully considered acting-wise, which doesn't surprise me. She's an intuitive singer/actress and it's the tightrope-walking element of every moment that keeps us riveted. Plus, she sings like the rest of her life depends on what she's saying in the lyric and finding the most organic way to couple it emotionally with the notes. Erratic, perhaps, but like other artists who stride through performances on the head of a pin, her brilliance when her balance is sure is worth one or two beats of naked insecurity getting there.
She played Rose too nice, in my opinion. I felt no anger or betrayal in response to her daughter running off. It was almost an expression of remorse/guilt she gives to Louise rather than pushy defiance toward the situation. She still has an incredible voice nonetheless.
Is this the paper mill production? She was good and started the interest in reviving gypsy so often. Bernadette Peters was great as was Tyne Daly. I was disappointed in lupone on broadway, she was better at encores 3 week run a few years earlier.
The rhythm isn't just weird, she threw it out the window. Arthur Laurents and Sondheim were right when they shut this production down. Astonishing as the voice is, she doesn't know how to play Rose.
they did not "shut this production down", they expressed their lack of enthusiasm for Buckley doing Rose on Broadway and shut down any hope of a transfer of this production. Not at all the same thing.
Thank you!!!! Betty Buckley! ♥️Xxxooo
Thrilling. La Buckley on the top of her game.
Fantastic! Brilliant!!!!!!!!!
Gorgeous 😊

beautifully acted and sung ..yet totally wrong at the same time....
She's not singing with the orchestra, sometimes ahead and sometimes behind. Didn't she rehearse with the conductor? Really amateurish.
