Linda Lavin sings "Everything's Coming Up Roses" from GYPSY

Linda Lavin took over for Tyne Daly in the 1989 revival of the musical GYPSY, playing Mama Rose - one of the greatest roles in the history of theatre. Reviews weren't kind and footage of her in the role has been scarce. Here it is. Decide for yourself.

The eye tick and manic pace mentioned in the NYT review is really evident here - but I like it. Also, I think Lavin's style of belt is so character appropriate.

I don’t know what it is but I’ve been watching this clip for AT LEAST 3 years now and idk what it is…but Linda Lavin fascinated me in this role, and i LOVE HER for it! She’s so good, despite the harsh reviews, I find her raspy and nasally singing qualities to be really in character and it honestly compliments the music. Tyne and Linda were both SO good, an excellent production!

I saw Daly twice and then this. Lavin's weird Irish accent was...no. Daly was far better.

I like her but this is too over the top. She starts manic and has nowhere to go from there

Awkward movements, bad singing. Why does she seem to be hunched over all the time?. All wrong for this part.
