Fab vid - and looks just right for the jibing in chop vid!

Nice, Cookie! Your vids have helped me a ton with my windsurfing progression, so thanks a ton! I'm planning to take the Watersports Nomad course next summer so maybe I'll see you out there!
    Couple of questions:
What fin were you using with that board? Somewhere around 35-36cm?
At around 5:34, you mentioned that the board didn't want to go any faster. Is that due in part to the width of the board? Would a board smaller than 71cm wide hit the 'speed limit' a bit later?
I'd like to start getting more comfortable in overpowered conditions - but I need to learn how to stop catapulting so much first 😂

      Thanks!
I think the fin was a 38cm race carbon.
All boards have a “terminal velocity”… for a number of factors, shape, size, rails, tails & weight!
Hope you can make the Nomad course next summer and we’ll chat more about it!

Now that was a fun video! Reminded me very much of the last Friday of our course when it was force 5-7 and I went out in a 4.7 sail not realising just how much force it can produce. A 3.7 or 4.0 would have been more appropriate for my level, so it was fun to see you knackered on an overpowered sail, it's what I was feeling for that 4.7 without a lot of experience and skill! Great stuff!

Haha- yes- it really kicked in on that final day! I was knackered in this session! 🤣

Wow! That was some speed! I wonder how fast you were actually going.

    • @Cookiesports
      @Cookiesports  3 місяці тому +1

I would guess the highest speed would have been just under 30 kn in that wind!

For me it's not just the struggle of how to channel much power. Instead the gear is simply not working. The wind is pushing against the sail somehow from the opposite site. I have to bear off wind more and more otherwise it's pulling me over. Last time I had the feeling that giving more outhaul reduces this feeling (simply because I loose profile in the sail). In short: for me there are more problems being overpowered than just too much force in the sail

If you’re being back-winded (wind pushing in the back), then you’re likely sailing too close to the wind for the outhaul setting- that’s where adjustable outhauls are handy!
That explains why you had to bear away to make it feel better!
Adjust tight to go upwind, then looser to bear-away! 👍👍

What board? You said 103 iSonic, caption said 72cm - no such board. The description says 107lt Starboard Ignite, and it isnt one of those either.

      Haha!
Good spot, I always get confused on this board… it’s a 2017 Starboard ISonic. 107lt, hybrid carbon ultra construction, 71cm wide, 231cm in length.
Really nice board to ride as you see in this, and a few other videos I’ve used it on.

Never look forward to this luxury where I windsurf, usually clutching at 10mph gusts trying to get planing

I love your vids (you need a better mic tho)

That microphone is amazing, I just need to get better at using it! It has been the same mic for the last two years. Sometimes I get the settings exactly right sometimes (like this one) not so much!
