This is by far the best tutorial on the subject of Helitacks and very close to perfection. The tiny little piece that some might be interested in to see is "what not to do" / failure analysis. If you drop the sail into the water or yourself, there are probably just a few common mistakes to better avoid or learn from them. Cheers from Munich
Thanks for the great words. 👍
I‘ve barely seen anyone with such clean windsurfing technique. Great tutorials, many thanks!
Agreed. Looks like ballet. Worth studying minute details.
We have been missing you. So nice you are back helping us all improve.
jesus..he's explaining the movement in a super good way. Stop complaining about the board and the wind.. You usually do your driver's license in a "normal" car and don't jump into an AMG Benz with 600 HP. Of course it's harder in 20-30 knots.. Always those kind of ppl on the internet.. great tutorial man.. Been working on it for the past couple of days
I was having a really hard time with this move and the thing I was missing was stepping that back foot forward of the front footstraps just as you’re getting backwinded as you explain ~3:50. Little things can make a huge difference.
Happy to hear it has helped 👍
Great guide! The best I've seen on the helitack. It's clear and I like how you break it down to the basic required skills, take it slow, show a lot of variations and repetitions... Your coaching experience clearly shines here! I'm imagining a few additional exercises, like practicing clue first water-start (for the exit) and back-wind sailing (to get used to steer the board while back-winded)... Also, showing some failures might be a nice addition, it highlights the possible mistakes (like at the very end, it shows how putting the weight back seems very important not to get catapulted while catching wind clue first). Can't wait to be back on the water and practice this, thank you so much for this video. 🤙
Love this video. I've been working on it for a few years and can occasionally pull it off but rarely on my small boards. This has shown me a few new things that I haven't thought about, like just letting go with the back hand whilst :) backwinding the sail.
Great video, thank you so much!🙌 I've finally understood how to helitack and mastered my first helitacks today🤗🎉🙋.
Tnx from Chile, great tutorial
Thanks. This is super tricky to learn. Really appreciate the instructional breakdown
GREAT. Like all your videos
Welcome back!
Danke!
You are very welcome
Благодарю за наглядный и понятный урок для меня украино и русско говорящего человека
Anyone: I am having difficulty turning into the wind. If we use the clock for direction the wind is coming from 12 o`clock and the board is initially going back and forth between 3 o`clock & 9 o`clock. I go upwind as much as possible but the board seems to stall between the no go zone (11&1). And at some point, the board turns in the opposite direction away from the wind going downwind which was not my intension. So in short, stalling and getting backwinded is not happening. I do stay dry. I also know that timing is the issue. Can you make some suggestion using the clock to explain the timing as to when to start backwinding. I am practicing on 119 liters and weigh 50 kilos. Thx for the awesome video.
Doing the helitack on a massive board like this is one thing.
Doing it in 20+knots on an 80l board is another.
Big board to learn the technique then you can move down to a small board in higher winds
@@GetWindsurfing it doesn’t just automatically translate though. It’s quite a substantial change.
Where is this spot?
Helitack is the best tack
After the fast tack.
It sounds like Snoop Dogg with a British accent 😂
Oh I would pay cash to see Snoop pull a helitack like Phil does.
@@gyzfr6 me too! He’ll be heli shizzling.!
Using big gear makes it far too easy. Please do the same with a +/- 5L board in 20-30 knots, that´s when it gets difficult, where advice is needed.
I hear you. This makes it better for learning when using a big board. Notice the technique is very similar when I use the smaller board. Stick to the technique and let it develop. Eventually you will do it in higher winds.
Good luck 🤞
P.s. it was way winder then it looks. I was planing on the 4.4.
