    Dishonored was such a beautiful, filthy world. I really don't feel like any of the villains were mustache-twirling stereotypes, despite the fact that several should have been exactly that. Nobody was flawless in that game, except perhaps Jessamine and Emily. Jessamine we saw only for a few moments, struggling to do the best for her people, and her sweet daughter Emily, wanting nothing more than to be reunited with the man she loved as a father (and her literal father) Corvo.
    The only thing I wish for would have been novels, comics, more DLC...anything to build the world more, to reveal more of the lore. I never understood the whales as much as I wanted to. And Granny Rags really deserves her own DLC.

    I think one element of the DLCs that I love so much is the fact that once you break it down, it plays out like a classic noir or detective story, but with a twist. Daud is a disillusioned man cutting back at the city to find one small piece of a truth, a truth that might set him free. The main difference is that Daud is not a cop. He’s an infamous assassin, known both to the scum and the nobles of the city alike.The scavenger hunt element you talked about plays into the noir theme, with each mission turning into a mini quest for clues on top of the overarching narrative of finding Delilah. It’s such a fresh take on the fairly flat and binary revenge story of the base game. Redemption in Dishonored doesn’t feel redeeming; Corvo still is a worse man by the end. In the Knife of Dunwall and its sequel, however, redemption is earned.

    • @elpsykoongro5379
      @elpsykoongro5379 2 роки тому +4

      Yeah, corvo doesn’t have to redeem himself because he did nothing wrong
      But he did thinks that are morally questionable in he’s path through the game in order to achieve he’s objective that is to save Emily and cleanse he’s name if he can (low chaos)
      Menwhile daud is the cause of the political instability and chaos that has erupted in the empire, of course he needs some redemption and he know it very well

    I know this is about the knife of dunwall and not the brigmore witches. But I just want to point out that Thomas needs more love. Billy has gotten her time in the sun, as she deserves, and I love her don’t get me wrong. But Thomas still deserves more then the one offhand reference he gets in death of the outsider.

    On my first play through I choose to spare Daud, even though it was a pain in the ass to fight him I thought he would do as much harm alive as he would dead. Just the way he spoke made me feel he was just tired of killing, which made me think of some headcanon where Duad was either trying to fix the mess he created or trying to set a new path for himself to right his past decisions. I got this all from just his voice acting from his talented VO Michael Madsen and learning of the ability to play as him, that his ways may have actually changed makes seeing speak in his and Corvo's encounter all the more surreal. I didn't know of this DLC until watching this but I think I'll give it a play now. Thanks!

    Great video!

  • @tTaseric
    @tTaseric 3 роки тому +4

    I love how in Dishonored 1, the high ground is a natural advantage. You're always going to find your way up there eventually. The struggle is knowing when to dip down and do the dirty work. But in Dishonored 2, the high ground is a constant struggle. And it plays into the maps design too. The buildings tower up in Karnaca in a foreboding nature, so you're funneled into this one street. You have to use pipes, street lamps, balconies, rocks, and the other pieces of the environment more often.
    I loved Dishonored map deign, but my favourite parts are when I don't have the luxury of hopping from rooftop to rooftop, like a lot of the base game missions. I love the Slaughterhouse mission in KOD because you have to be smart, you don't have an inherent advantage with the roof.

    After playing the DLC for Dishonored and then Death of the Outsider, you come to realise that the entire Dishonored series is not Corvo's story, nor Emily's. Dishonored is Daud's story.

    Daud's levels are rich, wild and uncontrollable, like Daud. Giving us a look into the parts of Dunwall city that we would never be able to explore as Corvo. Each mission is brilliantly designed and still has the Dishonored spirit at heart. I also love the fact that Daud can talk (lol) and have a mind of his own. Believe it or not I was getting rather tired with the quiet protagonist trope, so Daud joining in conversations and reacting differently to events, was really refreshing.
    On a side note, absolutely love Drapers Ward and its chaotic residents.

    I like that at the very start of the KoD a huge clue in how skilled Daud is was the gift The Outsider gives him during the cutscene. Just a name. On a name alone he was able to uncover so much.
    The Outsider didn't go into any detail about who or what Delilah was until after Daud discovered that for himself. No "hey there's this evil witch that needs to be stopped and you're just to guy for the job" none of that. Just "here's a vague clue, run with it how you see fit."

    The dlcs surpassing base game is very true. My favourite example of this is Borderlands 2 and the "tiny tinas assault on dragon keep" dlc which kind of knits up some loose plot points in a very cool narrative setting. The metaplot being about grief and acceptance is what manifests this as one of my favourite dlc ever

    I still play the first Dishonored to this day! Even though 2 brought in some amazingly fluid mechanics, the first game just seems more cozy. I love the DLC but in my personal opinion, Corvos has the best story line followed by Daud. However I would love to see a game where we get to play as Daud before the killing of the empress. He is kind of a mystery in the series and I know lots of people will not want to see a game that goes further I to his past because it could disrupt his overall mysteriousness. But playing as Daud before he got the mark and shortly after he got his mark would really be awesome and tie some loose ends to the mysteries of Dishonored. We know that Daud was supposedly one of the first to receive the mark of the outsider which is what makes him a badass. He has probably been the only character that we really get to see on screen that has dealt with the mark for that long. The big reason I would love a Prequel game for Daud, is that his story would definitely amplify the overall structure of the dishonored series while simultaneously opening up the ability to create new characters in Daud’s past, and progress them to a point in the new present world of the Dishonored franchise. What I mean by this, is that it creates more content for games. I haven’t heard any announcements about another Dishonored game release so this would be a great way to keep the game strong. These however, are just my opinions and I do not expect everyone to agree. I love the dishonored franchise and where it has went over the past years!

      I recently replayed DotO and it’s not that the Outsider was a big meanie who forced Daud. It’s more Daud recognising the Outsider is the common element with supernatural killers. Take out the Outsider and you remove the possibility of someone like Daud causing more chaos. Billie gradually works out that choice is the deciding factor; but Daud still comes across as a problem solver who thinks he worked out the problem.

    But the Daud DLCs are perhaps the most beloved content in the entire franchise? Visit the subreddit or Steam forums or even some UA-cam comments and you'll see most people point to TKOD and TBW as their favourite games in the entire series. And the characters and themes they set up in these DLCs eventually become the main plot points of the two future games as well.
    If anything, I'd say the ORIGINAL Dishonored is the forgotten one. Piero, Callista, Cecelia, all characters forgotten and discarded by the developers in the sequels. Fans never seem to point to any other highlights of the original game other than the Boyle mission, ignoring incredibly memorable and fun levels like Kaldwin's Bridge or the Lighthouse.
