Anyone who thinks this song and video are glorifying abuse needs to read between the lines and pick up on the subtleties that _carry_ the whole thing. The lyrics are speaking to an abusive relationship that is impossible or too dangerous to escape, and the abused is too used to that life anyway to see any way out. And the visuals, while brutal, clearly show blink and you'll miss it glimpses beneath Angel's mask of being okay, because if he _ever_ shows any signs of not being perfect, Val will just abuse him more. It's a grim but accurate depiction of how it can feel to be trapped by someone who has power over you and is abusing it. (And/or you.)

Recently, I found out that he recontextualizes himself as a dancer on a stage in his head while what's really happening in reality is on the big screens in the background. By doing so he protects his mind from the outside world; his last stand to protect his sense of self. He hints at this at 1:05 when he says that "I got so good at being untrue" and later 1:12 "I disassociate, disappear". The latter line is taken literally as the basis for the following scenes. This became most evident at 1:33 where he is on the floor of BOTH the mental stage and in reality before pounding his fist on the floor and then switching to him doing the same but on his mental stage. The moment Val appears the mental stage and the big screens invert their roles and his superstar persona shows up on the screen instead before snapping out of it at 1:49 where he opens his eyes once more once he remembers where he is. Val's presence is so powerful that he's capable of shattering Angel's sanctuary with ease. This song ages like exquisite wine. Props to the passionate folks at the HH crew for crafting this fine gem.

I rewatched the song a few times and just realised that when he's dancing in the end bit he's actually just dissociating and imagining that he is dancing, when you can see what's really happening in the screen behind him- And when his voice grows louder in the song it's when he's actually screaming, it's pretty horrible if you pay attention to it.

I relate to him so fuckin much it's painful. When I was in this kind of life, addicted to drugs and being sold like this, this is exactly how it felt. Maybe it's silly to relate so much to a cartoon but Idc I've been a vivzie fan since middle school and I'm glad HH is finally getting the love it deserves. But this song man... It hits so hard. Yes! Me too, this song really shows an amazing reflection of abuse and s3xual assault and it really tells how much pain Angel Dust is going and has went through. It's depressing, but what makes it hurt even more is that it's a realistic representation of what kind of cases ,with these substances in them, these actually are.
So, this episode and this song in particular made Angel my favorite character. I already liked him since he's hilarious but this episode added so much depth to him.

This episode made me cry. It was so heart-breaking and endearing. I couldn`t bare it and yet I could only cheer for Angel Dust. This song with the accompanying video... oh man, an arrow to the heart.
Watching this episode for the first time was holy SHIT. You can tell from the writing, direction, pacing, music, visuals, acting, everybody working on this knew that if Hazbin Hotel does one thing right, it HAS to be this episode. The way I reacted watching this one for the first time was insane. I'd love to experience those heights again. And what's funny is I didn't care much for the Addicted music video, but THIS gets me hype. I love that they went for it. And the song is an actual banger. THEY HELD NOTHING BACK
Part of me thinks that this all-nighter was going to happen anyway, and Valentino purposefully made it seem like it only happened because Charlie showed up just to further alienate Angel from the Hotel. I mean, Val was pretty pissed when he learned that he moved.
I love this song so much and man I feel for this message. As a SV victim that and how much it hurts you on the inside. And for me to dissociate, I literally pretend it never happened for so long because I was just a toddler. I even talk to my therapist thinking saying I think thinking I imagined the whole scenario, but there’s no way I did because how much detail I have remembered about it. Honestly I'm still baffled by people saying this is a bad representation of abuse, because, guys, idk if you know, but not every abuse victim is gonna be your "perfect victim" Some victims are going to be hypersexual, some victims are very broken and mental unstable, some victims may even miss their abusers and feel guilty for it. Abuse isn't a pretty and easy thing to portray, specially like this, that isn't simple rape, but a full on abusive relationship, where things can get very complex. I saw a lot of people pointing out a little frame where Angel seems to be enjoying sex with Valentino- and well, newsflash- SEX CAN BE A WEAPON USED BY ABUSERS TO KEEP YOU IN A TOXIC RELATIONSHIP. Abusive relationships are not OMG THIS IS AWFUL _ALL_ THE TIMES. That's how the abusers keep their victims. They sometimes give them a good moment, a nice thing, something that feels good, even for a single moment, to give them the illusion this is something worth, that this is something they still want
If Angel is getting this much abuse, I wonder what happened to Valentino? I have heard that abuse is a cycle and most often times, abusers are victims of abuse. I learn this the hard way when a close friend of mine was abused by an Ex and he ended up carrying on his pain onto me. He would claim, "I can't be abusive because I've had it done to me!" Well he would abuse me. So I left after dealing with it for 6 years. I can see how it does carry over from victim to victim. And unlike him, I got professional help.
Even if he did, he’s still much worse. In that case, Val let the abuse turn him into a monster, while Angel actively tries to keep others from meeting the same fate.

I finally got the chance to binge this series with my bf and I lost it feeling so empathetic to this song. I told my bf I had to go to the bathroom afterwards so I didn't worry him with my crying. My current bf is very sweet and we are well on our way to getting close to engaged but my past was rough with a lot of toxic ex's and fwbs and a lot of self esteem issues I'm still working on in therapy. It's definitely hard not to feel a lot in this series but it's an amazing show

Hazbin has _amazing_ sound design (Al’s hand flashing with a subtle noise whenever he calms his shadow back down when it follows his emotions is one of them. So is the fact that while he bleats/“meeps” as a startle reflex when Rosie spins him-and seems to as well because of Mimzy’s sudden hug-he _also_ meeps in surprise when when he leaps backwards to avoid Adam’s axe strike, it’s “meep” then **cry of pain** as he’s hit because he didn’t react _quite_ soon enough.) I’ve gone back through trying to see what subtle sounds the others have, Husker’s a trip with his cat growls, and Vox just _furiously_ having his metal claws clink against his metal frame when he’s So Done that Val didn’t tell him about Al being back first thing gives me life, it’s all so good. And his metal claws clink differently against glass, just like Al and Husk have their organic claws sound different than Vox’s. Edit: Also in the part with the choreography in the… at least last two pictures before Val grabs him, you can hear a camera shutter click but no whine of a flash recharging.

God, this is painful to watch, luckily I didn't have a human version of Val, but I was an addict (am an addict. Will always be one, just clean)& this was exactly what it was like. It was terrifying, never knowing if you were gonna live to the next day or not, but not caring enough about yourself to stop, no matter how bad you wanted to. It's like watching a runaway train on its way to a blown out bridge, you see the devastation & destruction, but are powerless to stop it, not even 100% sure you would if you could, bc what's the point? You're not worth saving, you've done too much, hurt too many people. Although that isn't true, it's how we (or at least I felt) back then. Luckily, I went to prison, sobered up & realized I was worth it & if you're reading this & struggling, just know, you absolutely are worth it too.

I can't explain why but this song just fits my life so well. Not because I'm an addict nor have I been sold like Angel Dust but the poisoned relationships in my life. I changed myself, lose myself in them and can't get away from them. Trying to convince myself it'll get better, imagining myself being elsewhere while everything inside me gets destroyed. Yet I can't seem to find a way out because how can you get away from family? This song, I just love it so much and singing it mostly the part where he screams, feels like my inner child screaming for help. I'm sorry for everyone that suffered a similar fate to Angel and can relate to this song. I hope you get better ❤

I rewatched the song a few times and just realised that when he's dancing in the end bit he's actually just dissociating and imagining that he is dancing, when you can see what's really happening in the screen behind him- And when his voice grows louder in the song it's when he's actually screaming, it's pretty horrible if you pay attention to it.

Yes! Me too, this song really shows an amazing reflection of abuse and s3xual assault and it really tells how much pain Angel Dust is going and has went through. You can tell from the writing, direction, pacing, music, visuals, acting, everybody working on this knew that if Hazbin Hotel does one thing right, it HAS to be this episode. I love this song so much and man I feel for this message. As a SV victim that and how much it hurts you on the inside. And for me to dissociate, I literally pretend it never happened for so long because I was just a toddler. I even talk to my therapist thinking saying I think thinking I imagined the whole scenario, but there’s no way I did because how much detail I have remembered about it. So I’m constant questioning myself till this day if it actually happened.

Honestly I'm still baffled by people saying this is a bad representation of abuse, because, guys, idk if you know, but not every abuse victim is gonna be your "perfect victim"
Some victims are going to be hypersexual, some victims are very broken and mental unstable, some victims may even miss their abusers and feel guilty for it.
Abuse isn't a pretty and easy thing to portray, specially like this, that isn't simple rape, but a full on abusive relationship, where things can get very complex. I saw a lot of people pointing out a little frame where Angel seems to be enjoying sex with Valentino- and well, newsflash- SEX CAN BE A WEAPON USED BY ABUSERS TO KEEP YOU IN A TOXIC RELATIONSHIP. Abusive relationships are not OMG THIS IS AWFUL _ALL_ THE TIMES. That's how the abusers keep their victims. They sometimes give them a good moment, a nice thing, something that feels good, even for a single moment, to give them the illusion this is something worth, that this is something they still want

I have heard that abuse is a cycle and most often times, abusers are victims of abuse. I learn this the hard way when a close friend of mine was abused by an Ex and he ended up carrying on his pain onto me. He would claim, "I can't be abusive because I've had it done to me!" Well he would abuse me. So I left after dealing with it for 6 years. I can see how it does carry over from victim to victim.
And unlike him, I got professional help.
I assume at some point Valentino was in a situation like Angel is considering that he has all those posters of him as a stripper in his room

Even if he did, he’s still much worse. In that case, Val let the abuse turn him into a monster, while Angel actively tries to keep others from meeting the same fate.

My current bf is very sweet and we are well on our way to getting close to engaged but my past was rough with a lot of toxic ex's and fwbs and a lot of self esteem issues I'm still working on in therapy. Hazbin has _amazing_ sound design (Al’s hand flashing with a subtle noise whenever he calms his shadow back down when it follows his emotions is one of them. So is the fact that while he bleats/“meeps” as a startle reflex when Rosie spins him-and seems to as well because of Mimzy’s sudden hug-he _also_ meeps in surprise when when he leaps backwards to avoid Adam’s axe strike, it’s “meep” then **cry of pain** as he’s hit because he didn’t react _quite_ soon enough.) I’ve gone back through trying to see what subtle sounds the others have, Husker’s a trip with his cat growls, and Vox just _furiously_ having his metal claws clink against his metal frame when he’s So Done that Val didn’t tell him about Al being back first thing gives me life, it’s all so good. And his metal claws clink differently against glass, just like Al and Husk have their organic claws sound different than Vox’s.
Edit: Also in the part with the choreography in the… at least last two pictures before Val grabs him, you can hear a camera shutter click but no whine of a flash recharging.

@RIPP3D_J3ANS thank you for bringing that up, cause I thought I would be crazy for saying how this explains human trafficking and addiction so well, which I learned about a few month ago in health class which was before I've seen Hazbin Hotel and as soon as I saw the episode I had flashbacks to the video representations of people who went through addiction or human trafficking or like someone who knew (or lost) someone that went through that, its super fucked up

God, this is painful to watch, luckily I didn't have a human version of Val, but I was an addict (am an addict. Will always be one, just clean)& this was exactly what it was like. It was terrifying, never knowing if you were gonna live to the next day or not, but not caring enough about yourself to stop, no matter how bad you wanted to. It's like watching a runaway train on its way to a blown out bridge, you see the devastation & destruction, but are powerless to stop it, not even 100% sure you would if you could, bc what's the point? You're not worth saving, you've done too much, hurt too many people. Although that isn't true, it's how we (or at least I felt) back then. Luckily, I went to prison, sobered up & realized I was worth it & if you're reading this & struggling, just know, you absolutely are worth it too.

Not because I'm an addict nor have I been sold like Angel Dust but the poisoned relationships in my life.
I changed myself, lose myself in them and can't get away from them.
Trying to convince myself it'll get better, imagining myself being elsewhere while everything inside me gets destroyed.
Yet I can't seem to find a way out because how can you get away from family?
This song, I just love it so much and singing it mostly the part where he screams, feels like my inner child screaming for help.
