  • Prescribed to rid the body of excessive fluid or edema, Lasix known generically as furosemide acts as a loop diuretic. It functions in a different area in the kidney than the more widely known thiazide diuretic hydrochlorothiazide. While thiazides find routine use in controlling high blood pressure, their effect appears weak in eliminating excessive body water.
Lasix functions principally to remove fluid retained due to compromised function of the heart, liver or kidney. Volume overload often interferes with lung function and regularly results in pulmonary edema and leads to shortness of breath, difficulty breathing and inability to lie flat at night.
Salt restriction must accompany furosemide therapy. Most people fail to realize that so many common foods, sauces, bread, pasta, cereal, condiments and processed meat contain excessive amounts of salt.
Lasix begins working quite rapidly and must not be taken before bed. Since food interferes with its absorption from the gut, ideal timing of the medicine is an hour before or two hours after breakfast.
The price of Lasix or its generic furosemide is a bargain at less than $15 a month.

Is there any extra precautions I need to keep in mind? My dog is diagnosed with Aortic Valve Regurgitation and is given Pimobendan, Furosemide and Amlodipine (CCBS drugs / calcium channel blockers drugs) by the cardiologist veterinarian.

Thank you so much for your video. I really get alot of information from them. I take Lasix to remove excess flyid due to Lymphedema. I find it to be very useful but I also limit my salt and sodium intake which keeps swelling down too

It seems as though doctors really don't know what they're doing where Lasix is concerned. This guy is not the exception to the rule. I've stopped taking Lasix. Instead of reducing the swelling in my feet, Lasix does the opposite. I've found that taking Chelated Potassium by itself reduces the swelling in my feet and my heart area. Why would I want to take Lasix with all of its side effects when just taking chelated potassium and magnesium does the trick???

I have a really bad case of water retention in my face and neck. I went to the doctor and he told me it looks like I've been drinking a lot, which is NOT the case? I rarely drink a glass of wine but my face is swollen. I asked him for this medication, to try, but he refused to give it to me. What can I do to get my face back into shape????
