After Matt reports on some meatspace QAnon art and we all agree we could go for a Wendell's Hammed Burger, we have a rare triple header reading series for you this week. We touch on Trump's Space Force, whether socialism will provide an adequate supply of prayer rugs and vegan milk, and if Israel is an Alpha Operator or a Beta App Developer.

Fun Fact: Steve Albini’s father was a rocket scientist working on the Star Wars project. Literally loved it because it was an impossible challenge
Matt had the superior joke with "Esperanto" to Felix's "Klingon".
one of the best cold opens lmao
So good
I don't want to be that guy but the Soviets didn't just shoot Gagarin into space because they wanted to research it. They knew they couldn't compete with Americas bomber fleet and did not have suitable atomic bombers to keep up a nuclear deterrence. So they developed intercontinental rockets. The proposal to launch a Satellite was made my Korolev who sold it to the military as an inevitable stage of ICBM development. The USSR announced their intention to launch an artifical sattelite publictly in 1955, four days after the US had made the same announcement. So just like in the US, the Soviet satellite program was closely linked to the nuclear arms race and just like in the USSR, the US had announced intentions for peaceful space exploration.
Then why did they send a probe to venus like a decade before the us
@@MrKYT-gb8gs They sent their first mission to Venus one year before the Americans. Their first two missions failed. This was during the 60s, when the space race was on and every new success could be used politically.
1:55 Now's usually when the villain says, "How could I be defeated?"

Damn this podcast used to be good
Space shouldn’t be abandoned, but it cannot be colonized under capitalism.
There are some cool rocks to send probes to, but literally every planet is 100x more uninhabitable than an active volcano here on earth
@@52flyingbicyclescolonized was probably a bad word to use. I’m talking about 1.) mining operations which could be done on asteroids by machines and 2. Some hypothetical distant future where we’ve figured out space travel and or terraforming
@@MarxistLasagnaist420 fully automated asteroid mining might have some uses in the future, but not for a long time. If it we can’t reasonably do it before climate change topples modern civilization, it is outside of our political horizons.
@@52flyingbicycles yeah I know. Just saying
