As much as I want to use liquid fertilizer I find it to be just so much more work. Sprayer, mixing, water, PPE. Granular fertilizer - just wait until some rain is forecast and then just put it in a hand spreader and throw it down. So much quicker, and easier.
Thanks Ryan, this is exactly what I was referring to a few weeks ago when I mentioned seeing more of your products on your channel and the way you use them. I'm going to take my cool season lawn into a liquid application program, so this helped me decide what I wanted to experiment with, without going into it totally blind. Thanks again!!!
I use Lawn supply products and have not been disappointed at all! A small suggestion for your channel. Could you create a playlist where you are using your products? I know you have used various ones and that could be a great way to reference them quickly! Keep up the great work!!
I love liquid apps! My favorite is doing a soil app with bios + ~.2lb N and watering in. Then doing a foliar app the very next day with ~.2lb N along with iron. The foliar app jump starts it and the soil app kicks in right after for the surge in color / growth.
Avid user of Ryan's product lines. I alternate between EqualizORR and GreenORR throughout seasons (except winter, obviously). I do a single application of each every 4 weeks, alternating every two weeks. GreenORR is liquid, and therefore easy to apply with either a backpack or hose-end sprayer. EqualizORR, the soluble powder, was intended for tank sprayers, but I do not often mix into a backpack tank (I have, but rarely). Rather, I did the calculation of how much product my lawn needed: about 10oz for a 2000sf lawn. Putting the powder by weight into the hose sprayer tank, filling with warm water and agitating thoroughly. Then, I just set the dial to about 3 oz/gal and start spraying, going over and over the lawn until the tank is empty. Alternating EqualizORR and GreenORR is the cat's whiskers, especially on Ryan's Elite PRG. "Lush" is an understatement. Try it!
Hey Ryan, how do you calculate the amount of N for the 4 and 8 oz rates? I know it's not a lot but I like to keep a running total throughout the year. Thanks!
Hey Ryan, for people without irrigation that are letting their lawns go in summer. Is there a rule of thumb on when fertilizer should be stopped? Like once temperatures are regularly in 80's or something? *in Iowa with a rye/bg/fescue mix Thanks!
Memorial day should be your last spring fertilizer application if you have no irrigation. Then, I will wait till September rains for next fertilizer application.
I ordered the 18-18-18 fertilizer product. I’m looking forward to seeing the results. Such a great price for so so many square feet of coverage. I also ordered the gallon 3 pack of Simple Lawn Solurions. It has changed my lawn dramatically. I absolutely love the lack of space I need to store this water soluble product. 😊
Thank you for these comments at the end about pounds of N in the liquids my lawn was so pale and hungry this spring. I did a couple sprays at label rates and got no results. I finally put down 1 lb of N granular and now it’s looking good again. Looks like the liquids is a maintenance after you’ve got it started?
This spring has been impossible for using liquids thus far. Southern MN and if it’s not raining the wind, like today is blowing 17 with gusts up to 30. I’ve always got the granular back up plan but not getting the micro nutrients and some other stuff down has been frustrating. Eventually things will even out but the program I had planned for the year is off.
Get an air induction nozzle. That's what I use as my place is at the top of a hill with fields on both sides and a calm day is pretty much non existent
Been a big fan for years and use a lot of your products. I did a full renovation a few years back with your Elite Mix and it is dark green. How is it we never see you have issues with any types of Poa, bent grass or any other undesirable grasses in your yard(s)? I do everything exactly as you and somehow my yard doesn’t stay 100% Elite Rye Grass. There has to be a secret you’re not sharing lol.
No secrets. I am very diligent when renovating to remove everything that is there with multiple apps and our climate isn't conducive to poa with summer heat. Bent will likely become a problem someday if I plant any but otherwise there's nothing around me to contaminate what I have.
Ryan my soil test shows very low P and K. Would using something like 18-18-18 be a good call to use for the season and then another soil test next season?
Yes it would but it likely won't move the needle much on the soil itself. You're applying small amounts to the leaf of the plant so that's a little different
I put off fertilizing my backyard because we have dogs. What are your thoughts on this? Maybe I could do the liquid just before they are in for the night and run the irrigation in the morning to clear it out. Granular takes forever to get any response and I never know how frequently to do it. I'm in Washington state, south facing backyard that gets shaded around 5-6pm.
About a week after I put on TNex (PGR) I put on this mixture (GreenOrr + EqualizOrr) almost exactly how it was mixed in the video. I went with the high rate on the GreenOrr. I'm not seeing much. No green up, no nothing. Is this because the lawn is not growing like it should, is it because it's mid-summer and heat during the days is usually around 90 or does it take more than a week to take effect? I was hoping to have a deep green lawn for Independence Day.

Going even a step further… I have distant relatives that are from Fulda & know your family! I’d love to share more. Is there a way I can DM you?
What I found out, especially in my area and with sandy soils, is that there is enough Phosphorus (P) naturally in the soil already. Im looking for something with ammonium sulfate as nitrogen with like 20% N and then a good chunk of that to be Potassium (K) 10-20%. Maybe some micros and definitely some iron. This fertilizer would benefit most lawns IMO without the need of much anything else. Sea kelp and hydrotain are just cherrys on top. You think Ryan is applying sea kelp and hydrotain to every square-foot of acres he has, no, but maybe NPK and some iron.
It will also depend on your pH as to how much of that P is getting to the plant. I have GrowORR soluble which is the analysis you're looking for and a granular coming soon with similar analysis. I use SoakORR (wetting agent) on certain areas but mostly NPK is what is applied at my place.
@@ryanknorrlawncare agreed! But for most lawns that holds true. I thought I put if your pH is in range that should be all you should need. I also prefer ammonium sulfate as a nitrogen source for its color.
Whats up Ryan, never tried the liquid fertilizers yet on my lawn only granular. But I’ve noticed a couple patches of red thread. Not sure how to take care of it. Any suggestions or products you sell.
Hard to tell without exactly seeing your problem, but give it a couple shots of nitrogen at low rates, spaced over a couple weeks, like he talks about in this video.

It takes me almost no time to spread my fertilizer or cabon prog. There is even granular PGR. Watering the product kind of sucks if you don't have irrigation.
If you aren't going to be watering consistently through the season then you probably won't see much benefit. Liquids are all about consistency because one app is not a ton going down so it won't make the impact that heavier apps of granular will.
Have to make 3 passes criss crossed with 1/3rd doses of the granular stuff with a spreader, and even then you still get lines. Spray is a game changer. Can spray anything- humic acid, kelp, iron, 2-4D, T-zone, etc. My only regret is not buying a riding mower to tow a spray device or getting a battery powered sprayer. The pump style back pack sprayers are awful for >4000 sq-ft.
