There is a big difference when it comes to initial development of style/voice when freestyling etc & finding your style when it comes to writing bars & delivering how you want to sound. A lot of style is really decided by the bar structure.. The voice & how you deliver is one thing but ultimately to do really tricky things you have to understand structure. Freestyle can develop your style but the transition to written will always sound robotic & lacking (to yourself mainly) if you don't master & understand the writing part. Study bars of your favourite artists, pick a few with radically different style as possible & sing along like normal but reading the lyrics, analyse them pull them apart & become familiar with the ingredients.
