Honestly. That is a very stupid analogy. I hate child fuckers but I watched about Pizza Gate! Maybe they hate some aspects about Gibson. Do you only see black and white? Life is very complex you know.
I just got my R8, and I found this video, and it was a true honor to watch this. This is my first custom shop historic Les Paul, and thank you for showing me how they were made.
One of my Les Paul's looks like Slash's beat up Paul. It got that way through a few thousand hours of practice, a ton of jam sessions, lots of sweat, cigarette smoke, pot smoke, spilled alcohol and survived the wrath of several ex-girlfriends.
I'm not a huge fan of aging. Having said that I just purchased a "light aged" R9..... not because it was aged, because it smoked every other guitar in the shop. It feels so good in my hands. I love it.
I have had a number of Gibson Guitars through the years... with few issues. My main guitar these days is perhaps one of the least popular Gibson Guitars.... It is a beautiful 1997 Blues Hawk. The thing stays in tune for ever, has a great neck, a great variety of tones... and the work on it is flawless. Not a lot of complaints... Thank you Gibson
Cool,i got a 2021 les paul standard and it has no tuning issues at all I tune it everyday and some days it just needs a little adjustment and I have no problem with the G string
I have noticed a lot of comments about the Richlite fretboard so I wanted to share some of my thoughts. I personally own two Gibson Les Paul Customs. One, a 2011 model, has an Ebony fretboard and the other, a 2016 model, has a Richlite fretboard. Both of them are absolutely amazing guitars in every single way. I have sat down with both guitars to see if I can detect any noticeable differences between the two in terms of feel and tone. When it comes to feel, the Ebony and the Richlite feel the exact same. They both feel smooth to the touch and are both very high quality. When it comes to tone, (please note a lot of different factors could be at play here), my Les Paul with the Richlite fretboard seems to have a slightly warmer tone whether I am using the bridge pickup or the neck pickup. The variation in tone is almost unnoticeable but after many hours of trying to listen for any disparity that is the conclusion I have come to. Looks-wise, Ebony has a grain while Richlite does not. So no matter if your Les Paul Custom uses an Ebony board or a Richlite board, you are getting a wonderful and awesome guitar that you will enjoy forever. To shift focus, Gibson is NOT using Richlite as a cost cutting measure. In the latter half of 2014, I believe, Ebony wood was moved to Appendix II of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (also known as CITES). According to the CITES official website, cites.org/eng, "Appendix II includes species not necessarily threatened with extinction, but in which trade must be controlled in order to avoid utilization incompatible with their survival." This decision by CITES forced Gibson and many other big brands to find alternatives to Ebony. More recently, smaller brands are being forced to change from Ebony as well. It is very possible that Rosewood will also be moved to Appendix II in the near future. If you would like to see the Appendices of the CITES convention (valid from 4 April 2017), here is the webpage's address: cites.org/eng/app/appendices.php You will locate Ebony under Appendix II which is near the bottom of the webpage. I hope this was helpful.
You should see the neck dive on my '16 SGHP. With the robotuner, it needs a deep sea diver helmet. I'm thinking about routing a hole in the back and dropping some lead near the control hole. I think I'll route a Jr control panel sized hole, I should be able to add a pound of lead or so and slap a cover plate on it. For $1550, this shouldn't be my problem.
Nothing is optional in these modern times due to OSHA rules. The dust collection system at Gibson Custom is immense and so effective that it causes weather patterns inside the building. If OSHA felt that a mask was necessary, you would see a mask. OSHA rules are strict, non compliance is very expensive. Dust masks are cheap.
exactly. I worked at a cabinet factory in the paint department for 3 years and the dust collection system is massive. we were not required to wear masks, though they were provided for us if we so choose to wear them.
I visited the Gibson factory in Memphis just a few months before it closed and was told that the Custom Shop in Nashville was closed to the public. Is it now open to the public?
The g string won't stay in tune is that it lol fantastic crafted guitars go buy a Chinese guitar you gotta change everything by time you spend all that xtra cash just buy the original product save yourself the hassle a G string really lol
11:31 look how low that A strings pole piece is, is that a copy of someone's Guitar or just a relecked one and that is the normal Gibson Pole piece height(s), or set up for that particular Guitar. Are they using Glass to trim the binding? Nice Tour.
I remember the last time I checked out the 3-4 thousand dollar les pauls at the local music shoppe and the binding looked terrible on multiple les pauls..
I heard Heritage Guitars were employees from the old Gibson factory who stayed and still use the old school equipment from that factory. I haven't played one of their guitars but they sure look awesome.
Guitars that cost $4,000 - $10,000 yet every worker they show seems to be in a heavy-handed huge rush. How about taking some time with finesse to do it right? I love watching the drill bit going into the pickup ring jig on an angle. Plus, leaving the spent wood chips from drilling under the jack and back plates as they install the screws. Just like they do in China. No wonder that half of the Nashville regular production guitars have shoddy workmanship. Everyone is rushing to toss the damn thing in a box and ship it out. Shame.
Well, considering Epiphone doesn't even use real binding, but rather paints a line around the outer edge of the guitar, I believe even the most rushed Gibson has a lot more careful craftmanship than any Epiphone. Epiphone also uses cheap wood. Go to any lumber yard, and you're bound to find higher quality woods than what Epiphone uses.
Great tour and information thanks!... is the Customshop also open for a visitor tour when we travel over to the US..( to see the birthplace of our Lps) ?
There is an economic dollar to Dollar evaluation device available on these laptops and smart phones we all use and it allows you to see the cost of Les Paul through the decades. Believe it or not, comparatively speaking, year to year, dollar to dollar they basically cost the same from 1952 through to today. I've saved and paid for mine over the years as an enlisted airman, a salesman, a carpenter and now a business owner. If you want one, you'll find a way.
The difference is that those old ones were handmade for that price. These new ones are built much closer to a Chinese epiphone than a 50's Gibson. Have you ever wondered why they don't allow the Chinese factories to use nitro finishes for an extra charge or give them premium pickups? If they did it would ruin the American made Gibson line. Gibson needs to evaluate their production methods and get the quality right.
I would like to point out the fact that even if gibsons were always expensive also the economy was different and people had more purchase power than now, specially young people. You must be one of those old economy Steve meme type of guys
With my income bout the only thing I can afford is guitar picks. This has always been my dream to have a great Les Paul. I've always had to take less in everything though, so I should be use to just dreaming!
The bottom of the tube is padded foam, the notation showing what neck it is is on the guitar end of the neck. Have to be able to tell what the neck is, put it in the bin headstock first.
TheGalwayFarmer out of curiosity what is a Prat? Thank you...
I just got my R8, and I found this video, and it was a true honor to watch this. This is my first custom shop historic Les Paul, and thank you for showing me how they were made.
The Gibson Custom Shop can turn out some great work, that's for sure!
Yeah, so good that they just throw away guitars that arent perfect!
Wow that was great thanks 👍
4:14 How they prep your Custom Les Paul for a headstock break! ...the "softening up" method..😏
Jokes ppl! - I love Gibson
What Model is at 6:48? Looks like the USA modern. I didn’t know the custom shop did those heel joints
Those Les Paul relics are gorgeous.....they are beautiful....it is indeed an art form in itself....
If you send me your guitar and $100 I'd be happy to beat it with a hammer and let my dog chew on it for you. My dog is a relic artist of sorts..lol
Very informative. Great video!
Love my R9....its very shiny-new.
Not a fan of "aging"...but good for others if you like it.
Ill play it old myself.
I agree. Allow the guitar to age naturally through performing.
I love it.
Great video thank you
I have had a number of Gibson Guitars through the years... with few issues.
Amazing video great stuff.
If you would like to see the Appendices of the CITES convention (valid from 4 April 2017), here is the webpage's address: cites.org/eng/app/appendices.php
You will locate Ebony under Appendix II which is near the bottom of the webpage.
I hope this was helpful.
Sorry, nobody gives a crap
Ebony is not on CITES schedule II . . . yet. The listing is restricted to Madagascar.
Awesome Narration 😊
I've got an r8 lightly aged. It plays and looks stunning! It's my favourite axe, before my tele, 335 and SG. Sustains forever! 🕶
what is the plastic he's using to shave the wood at 6:10 ?
4:14 for such an expensive guitar I wouldn't be expecting them to drop the neck on the headstock..
Do you see the way it bounces back up a number of times? There's a lot of foam padding at the bottom and it is a fairly light wood as well.
it's a heavily padded box... don't worry... also his t-shirt was slightly torn on the bottom left side, a disgrace !
For $1550, this shouldn't be my problem.
wow, great video.
5:17 to 5:44....I got such satisfaction from that....
Same for me haha, i wanna do it, seems to be a fine work
it's probably optional. i'm sure they have them available but it's more than likely his personal choice to not wear one.
For some reason they seem to get one through once in a while.
I visited the Gibson factory in Memphis just a few months before it closed and was told that the Custom Shop in Nashville was closed to the public. Is it now open to the public?
My head loves my PRS, my heart loves my Les Paul.
Hope you can play like Mayer and slash. I’d love either if my bank account was endless
Your heart has nothing to do with the guitar. It does pumping blood all over your body.
my wallet loves strat
My heart loves my Les Paul but my soul loves my Mustang
I love les paul, but my guitar is ibanez
Awesome video. I loved it!
All that work and the G string still won't stay in tune
lastinline bruce my g sting stays in tune fine
Mine too
This isn't the 70s, man
The g string won't stay in tune is that it lol fantastic crafted guitars go buy a Chinese guitar you gotta change everything by time you spend all that xtra cash just buy the original product save yourself the hassle a G string really lol
Mine does. Try HB pencil lead on the nut.
Mantap banget gibson nya... Pengen punya tpi ga ksampayan gitar faforit aku ni.... Kapan bisa punya ya
4:14 Perfect. That's how you treat a gibson neck right!
Ah, I noticed that and it shock me, too
Did you notice the bounce? Which means there's rubber or foam at the bottom?
11:31 look how low that A strings pole piece is, is that a copy of someone's Guitar or just a relecked one and that is the normal Gibson Pole piece height(s), or set up for that particular Guitar.
Are they using Glass to trim the binding? Nice Tour.
The Binding Scrapers use glass, various metals, etc. Each Scraper has their own technique.
Those people originally started Heritage, but they have all passed away.
Shame.
If they'd have said it was the Epiphone factory I wouldn't have been surprised.
Have a couple of CS guitars, no wood chips or flaws in any of them. They are overpriced though, hard to argue against that.
You do realize that the binding on Epiphone guitars is real, right? Anyone who claims it's painted on is full of shit.
I've seen quite a few forums stating that at least some of the Epiphones have painted-on binding. Perhaps the higher-quality ones don't.
Can you do an update Since now they have the Murphy shop opened
It's a good thing that Gibson is under new management and ownership.
Great tour and information thanks!... is the Customshop also open for a visitor tour when we travel over to the US..( to see the birthplace of our Lps) ?
RV EUROPE ON TOUR nope
@@Nightshade1881 ty, sad enough..
That was so relaxing to watch
i am 17 now.
one day i will own a Black Beauty Les Paul from that shop built by one of those people.
I need to make a visit here
With my income bout the only thing I can afford is guitar picks. This has always been my dream to have a great Les Paul. I've always had to take less in everything though, so I should be use to just dreaming!
Really interesting video
as an owner of 2 Les Paul guitars I truly enjoyed this😊
Very cool video!
I am blessed to have a Tom Murphy aged guitar. He is indeed THE master guitar craftsman..!
I love these instruments
Man these comments are hilarious! I love the dude @ 4:13 that just drops the neck in the box
It is magic to sell a production guitar as a "custom shop"
Beautiful guitars I own six of them, I am not a rock star, just a session player..
Dude that's still quite cool
Rock stars are just puppets anyway
OK now I'm really confused - is it better to get an ES-335 from the Nashville Custom shop or from Memphis regular?
This is not just a video about the Gibson Custom Shop. No, this is therapy.
6:10 what kind of translucent knife is this?
5:21 just sacrilege spraying all that black spray over that beautiful flame maple!
I agree. That was just pitiful
It's only ply laminate maple! ;)
Suport me subscribe and view
Gibson custom shop is the holy grail of guitar factories. Yeah, and the stuff that comes out of it is gory hell.
around minute 4, why the fuck would anyone drop a neck on it's headstock? Why not the bottom part?
KrautMasker ? If the body isnt attached there is almost no weight to crack the headstock so it doesnt really matter
KrautMasker yeah I noticed that also. maybe the bottom of the box has lots of padding? But it did seem careless.
The bottom of the tube is padded foam, the notation showing what neck it is is on the guitar end of the neck. Have to be able to tell what the neck is, put it in the bin headstock first.
because they don't care? some prat will pay $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ for it regardless
TheGalwayFarmer out of curiosity what is a Prat? I can understand that Gibson charging absolutely fucking ridiculous prices for the guitars I can understand that Gibsons charges absolutely fucking ridiculous prices for the guitars. Elder Custom Shop guitars are price to a point where either custom shop guitars are priced real point where the almost done affordable anybody that really plays how did bars and clubs I did buy one and I hand-picked it but I only bought it because I wanted the same guitar for 40 years and I figured it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to cough up that kind of cash for guitar I don't play it until I die. and it's not a case Queen it lives in my studio which is basically my garage and it gets taken out to every gig I play whether it's an inside gig or an outside gig it spends time and lots of shity bars and playing for bikers and it makes me money
_Can anyone tell me the model of this guitar_ 5:38
Hey Looks like it might be a Gibson Super 400. Hope this helps
I don't like scratches on a new guitar!
Then don't buy them.
Same! Hence the new part!
Wondering if that dusted stereo on 1:07 stillpyals...
João Carlos lol Damn, eagle eye!
No wonder they're having issues with splitting at the nut...the way that dude dropped the neck headstock first into the box...wtf
Beautiful
is it wrong to be drooling right now
thebreatheeasy not if it was drool.
Have you been in a car accident?
What are the landmarks to define precisely where to drill at 05:11 ? 🧐
They're just slightly countersinking the bridge post holes that are already drilled there.
The 57 black beauty is the greatest guitar ever made.
I have a 2011 Reissue of the 1957 Black Beauty, Les Paul Custom. I could not agree more.
Wonderful video. What a sweet way to make a living. In 2014 after many years playing guitar I bought my first Les Paul Traditional. It has been a flawless resonant & beautiful guitar to own and play. It may never be in the same league as these custom shop Les Pauls but I am very happy just the same. There is something that’s just magical about a USA Gibson Les Paul.
