I really prefer the rustic aesthetic they had going with the first game. Sure, it might have been due to limitations, but in comparison to Starcraft 2's style, it just feels a lot darker and appropriate.
@NightHawk92929 This wasn't a demolition mission from the start. They were there to see if there were Zerg and if there wasn't any, then there would be no need to blow up the ship. They were ambushed rather quickly and they didn't have time to set the timer, pick a direction to go back to the ship, and defend against Zerg that they couldn't clearly see.
@OrionAssante Something like that. I just figured he was the designated demolitionist of the team, not even necessarily a Marine. All he had was an assault rifle and (somewhat bizarrely) a bandoleer of shotgun shells, so he was hardly equipped for much combat. He was just the dude they brought along to actually arm/operate the bomb.
I guess this movie is proof that even Kerrigan uses power overwhelming, since those Hydralisks weren't even phazed by all those point blank shots. A great movie though. My favorite, definitely.
@lambonut6 Because the visors only protect from harmful space radiation (and of course keeps the oxygene inside the helmet), and they're not in space anymore? Maybe they would just distract their vision even more if they had them on. I think a zerg claw have no problem tearing through it anyways.
@sleirylover i don't think it was a desert eagle. i think that was a gauss pistol of some sort. conventional firearm mechanisms wouldn't be effective versus zerg carapace, so it was just a really big futuristic pistol that looks like a deagle.
@electricbayonet2 its like comparing a species of super land elephants that reproduce really fast to the army. except they arent as strong as super land elephants and they use conventional weaponry as opposed to particle disruptors that evaporate tissue.
despite the graphics being inferior to what they have today, the cinematography that went into this scene are hard to beat these days. ... I wish Aliens: Colonial Marines, could have been as good as this scene -'J
***** the new ranking system is pretty good at placing people with similar abilities, IMO, if you are a courteous player and wish your opponent good luck & Have fun (GLHF) you are already a good player, it's been my experience that most players are very respectful, and sometimes even helpful, even in ladder matches -'J
they didn't get the whole "gauss" part right but you hafta admit these cinematic videos where pwnage in 95' Amazing graphics, voted best cinematic videos during its time.
Actually, the pistol in the cinematic is the Slugthrower, a light sidearm issued to Marines. After the Brood War, this was replaced with the more powerful Flak Pistol, which appears in StarCraft: Ghost. For the record, the 'Ghost' probably is a Ghost. Courtesy of Mengsk trying to accelerate the Ghost Program in its early stages under the Dominion, many substandard Ghosts resulted.
@Exverlobter Not only that but they're trained for situations like this. If he were a Ghost, he would have put up a fight instead of wetting himself and running off like that. Typical Ghosts don't feel emotions, so for the guy to be a Ghost would be inconsistent seeing as how he wet himself pretty bad.
I wish there was whole movie like this. There is not a single movie , besides aliens , where bunch of marines fight insectoids in a claustrophobic space stations , spaceships or colonies.Yet thats the only theme i want to see in horror movie industry.
@electricbayonet2 By the time there are weapons creating black holes, they will already have weapons that use planets as ammunition, because it would be easier to create a weapon that does that.
@christiansurfer91 Either ghost or not, you are totally mistaken about the mission: Kerrigan, now reborn as the Queen of Blades, raided that vessel and killed everyone inside, of course it was infested to the core, the mission was to "destroy compromised vessel" without any other option. Of course the idea was to blow it up without the team inside, but they knew the risk, and activated the nuke manually only as last resort, knowing beforehand that they might face the worst posible scenario...
This guy is a ghost. He has the goggles and vest which are seen only on ghosts in SC1. Also, this was just a few months after the dominion's take over, so he would have either been express trained and recruited, or one of mengsk's older rag tag ghosts. Either way, his training would have been very basic, and healthcare very limited, which explains the freaking out and teeth. And remember, Mengsk adopted the confederate ghost program AFTER his takeover, and the training takes years to implement.
He's not a ghost. A ghost wouldn't be used to do a mission like that they aren't expendable. Their given the best gear. The goggles doesn't mean he's a ghost. He's more of an demolitions expert
The pistol is a desert eagle. I guess it was quicker modeling a nowadays pistol rather than modeling a futuristic one... Looking closer at it, that DE had shot more than 10 times, when it's supposed only to have 7 rounds. And the rate of fire was pretty faster.
This cutscene was by far my favorite In terms of atmosphere I really still prefer the raw, murky, down to earth (in space) style of starcraft 1 over the theatrical, overly epic style SC2.
@electricbayonet2 yes, in a universe as dire as warhammer 40k, genetically enhanced warriors and a brawny warrior race would be highly unlikely. As for species modifying crystals, it is logical that if such crystals did exist, which is a complete possibility, it would make sense that they would be used by the most advanced species in the universe.
I don't know why, but I always love the old school clips from the original Star Craft game. The CMC armor just looked more proportional than the gigantic ones with XBOX HUGE hands.....just doesn't seem right.
Officially confirmed that it's: "We're all dead! BLOW IT, BLOW IT!" since remastered was released with option for subtitles for cinematics and that's what it says.
@chrispollock Yeah I hear you. Another thing they could have done which would have made way more sense was to plant the bomb outside the vessel. It would still blow the vessel to pieces.
If the Ghost casted the cloak device the marines defeated the hidralisks. Hmmm... The Hidralisks attacks far with the neddle spines or close with melee claws?????
@electricbayonet2 in the year 40,000 everything will be animated. There wouldn't be super mutants in power suits with big chain guns. There will never be a weapon that creates the equivalent of a black hole in the year 40,000, because if there was that would be a means of easily destroying planets, which you pointed out was "not so easy" in the warhammer universe. There are elements we haven't discovered yet. And the elements we have on earth already have amazing properties.
that was brutal! I mean even for an old game like starcraft, his whole face just blew of and there was a claw in the back of his head. You can tell hes not having a great day
Anyone notice how the guy was still alive even after the hydralisk spiked him through the neck and jaw and popped his eyes out? God, I can't believe I didn't have nightmares after watching this...
Actually the pistol has more power than the rifles themselves which are designed to pierce all types of armor (not shields though) watch the StarCraft Ghost trailer and see a single pistol bullet took down a zergling.
Im pretty sure that guy is a ghost, hes got goggles, rifle, and nuke, also i thinks those are not shotgun shells but canister rifle rounds. BTW ghost should have dental.
they didn't know they would be slaughtered. They may have considered the possibility , so thats why they brought the ghost to minimize that chance. Also, why would a commander send in a unit with less armour than the standard soldier receives? He must have some other purpose than a pointman. When receiving armour makes a job harder rather than easier they must have some special ability. Not saying you're wrong, just presenting another theroy.
@electricbayonet2 In order to create a weapon that fires black holes, you would have to create a weapon that can a: have a firing force greater than a black hole in order to fire one and b: be able to sustain a black hole as ammo. If the weapon somehow magically creates a black hole on the spot, then fires it, it would have to have a sun ready to be compressed within its chamber, as you are implying.
The only thing that would suggest to be that the smaller guy was a ghost would be the rounds he carries. Other then that I see nothing that would indicate him for a ghost. Just probably light infantry or engineer. :/
OOOH THIS IS THE BEST ONE IN THE SERIES! I completely agree with Apocalumtech. It's such an ALIENS rip off, but you still gotta love it. And StarCraft--best computer game ever made.
@The1337pwnag3 the weapon has 3 barrels and its larger than a standard weapon. and I don't think you've seen what an ak-74 looks like considering everything past the magazine would be slender. I guess every gun with a skeletal stock is an AK-47 variant.
@Phamster92 It can still be a ghost. If you read the manual it sais that in the beginning of ghost development the technology for cloak didn't exist. So by all means it can a budget pre-war era ghost
The command structure made several vital mistakes. First, they should've gathered some good recon. Scan the place with thermal signature imaging. Then send in a drone. Lastly, they should've sent a platoon instead of a damn fireteam to secure it. The bastards never had a chance.
IF they didn't see a Zerg, then they would know they don't have to destroy the ship, and can bring another dropship with techies or SCV's to fix the Vessel. Conversly, if it was infested, they would resort to the "if we can't have it, no one can", method thus the bomb.
I dont understand why there isnt any good movie with this kind of an atmosphere. The last and the only one like this is Aliens.Nobody has ever done a movie that takes place in claustrophobic space , with ugly monsters , bad ass marines and loads of shootouts before or after the aliens :(
@Inflationobesession a ghost would be wearing hostile environment suit and most likely would not have shotgun shells attached to him. Also, he would've killed those hydralisks easy with his fully automatic 25mm highly explosive c-10 sniper rifle and he would not have a sense of fear either.
Plus, I think at the end, the last marine yells some sort of last name instead, like "Wierzbowski" or some shit like that, addressing the wanna-be ghost. I think Blizzard made that to further increase the amount of joke and "Aliens-like" atmosphere the battle has, cause if I recall correctly, one of the marine characters in the movie "Aliens" had a similar name... (And he gets killed very early in the film, so people seems to remember him far less than Hicks, Hudson or Vasquez)
@NightHawk92929 Some guy beat me to it, but he's right. They even said, "Only if we see a Zerg," for circumstances that would call for them to blow up the station. Presumably, the Amerigo went dark, and being a research station with Zerg aboard, the team was sent in to destroy it if the Zerg had gotten out. And the time between when they didn't even know if there were loose Zerg and when they were up to their necks in Hydralisks was 37 seconds. No time to retreat, no time for much of anything.
Officially confirmed that it's: "We're all dead! BLOW IT, BLOW IT!" since remastered was released with option for subtitles for cinematics and that's what it says.
@electricbayonet2 in real life the most technologically advanced race would have no problem destroying anything they face because the most advanced species would have the ability to just completely analyze all forms of life, assess planets, and adapt to any kind of attack, without even being known. kinda hard to leave when there's no way out. Every hall was filled with hydralisks

Love this movie, beer in the with the bomb, guy smoking inside his suit, classic. "I got yer zerg right here, heh heh heh."
@ 03:32, sounds like someone yells, "Alan, gotta medic?"
Yeah... don't think any medic will save your ass here...
damn zerg!!!
woooooooooooooooow!!! this fight scene really knocks me off! how much more for starcraft 2!
Bliizard likes their wooden shrapnel
We're all dead! Blow it! Blow it! ohhhhhhhh! bang lol
Question: How to record these movies?! Please answer me! i wanna make a SC movie music video...
Technically the marines won that battle considering the were able to get the nuke on, but seriously put a timer on the bomb and run!
god damn this is the most awesome cinematic in starcraft. i wish they made a movie
@STarCRAFT4BRITS Here are a few items from the ork armory: powered armor, meteor-turned space fortresses, small arms that are comparable to .75 caliber explosive bolts, cannons that can rip holes in the fabric of space, and, of course, the aforementioned ability to channel their collective faith into physical power, which is a weapon in itself.
Sounds like quite a bit more than the supposed "conventional weaponry" you're talking down at. In fact, it sounds like you're barely familiar with 40k.

@electricbayonet2 well thank you very much Sir. it hurt my head to read his shit. But thats the usual stuff you find on youtube.
