    I am so trained that my brain is always subconsciously looking for hazards my bun could get into. Is there any chocolate or avocado around? Are all the cords secured? Is there anything bad on any surfaces he could get into? It becomes second nature. I’m sure it seems overwhelming to those new to rabbit cohabitation but it becomes easier when you’re fully educated which is why this channel is so amazing. Saving rabbits, educating and giving them the best life is my mission too!

      I know right!? I'm a heavy sleeper but I wake up at the sound of my buns being up to no good. My brain is trained to know the different chew sounds of their toys or whatever they might take an exploratory bit out of. You have to always be alert and it's never ending. Even with your whole house bunny proofed they just find new things to stress you with every day. They are worth it though :D My little trouble makers are worth all my new grey hairs. Their new thing now, is that they like to chew off the wrapper off bottles.... they did that on the same day I spent £70 on toys and treats because of course they did...

    My aunt just got a rabbit about a week ago, so she brought it over today, and she was living in a cage the size for a hamster, there was one toy, no litter box, no hay, unlimited pellets, only one rabbit (she goes to work all day everyday so she doesn’t have time to let her out), there was a water bottle, and the cage was covered in cedar shavings. Thanks to you and your channel, I was able to tell her what she was doing wrong and how to fix it!

      That was a mistake almost everybody was making, because so many rabit cages are out there, and I grew up seeing rabbits in cages. Until I saw this video, I didn’t know what the original purpose was for keeping a rabbit in a cage. I’m so happy you were able to provide your rabbits a room where they can be rabbits! Must be so fun to eatch them!

      @@KARINCLANE what about a hutch? My brother just got a rabbit legit today and at this moment the only thing that we have to keep it in is in a pretty big dog kennel. We have 7 dogs so we have to keep it down in the basement which is pretty big. My brother is only 7 and doest know much about bunny's so I'm just researching what all bunny's can, can't eat. What is dangerous to them, whats not and all the other stuff. Should a hutch work for the bunny? Cause my parents and I are trying to find one on Facebook for a decent price cause we're not trying to buy one from Walmart with cheap wood, and material's. We should have a hutch by next month if not sooner.

    • @KARINCLANE
      @KARINCLANE Рік тому +2

      @@jaymessmoyer340 Unfortunately most people don’t understand that getting a rabbit is more complicated in its care than what we believed before. Rabbit care isn’t cheap, but you don’t have to get expensive supplies that you can get much cheaper in other places without the name brand.
      Rabbits do, however need lots of space to run around and play with toys, so the basement would be a great area, as long as you have the hutch unlocked. You also need to get the rabbit a litter box. A lot of hay will be needed, in separate places, to rat, nest and for its litterbox. There unfortanately will never be a time the rabbit can explore upstairs, unless all the dogs are out of the house. Sorry, if I offend you, but bringing in a prey animal to a house with seven predators was not the best idea. Especially since rabbits need lots of attention. You have to provide it. You might get another rabbit to keep the other company, then again, it’s back to the dogs. From my past mistakes, I can tell you that you need to research a potential pet, before, not after, you get the pet. There is plenty of info and youtube videos about rabbit care. Good luck. 🙂

    My bunny died two days ago.
    He was almost 13 years old, he was the little king of the house. He lived in total freedom in my room (but did not leave his carpets so easily, more comfortable for his little paws!). He had everything he needed, in food, in hug.
    Now it's so sad without him, so calm ... I've been totally devastated ever since. It's hard, 13 years with an animal..its not nothing. It is often when we lose them that we finally realize how much they brought into our lives.
    So take care of your animals, and they will take care of you too.

    Because my bun is very sickly, I spend a LOT of time with him to support his journey and his mental health. I sometimes even sleep in his playpen at night so that I can give him attention whenever he needs it. I know that sometimes he needs his own space, but I still make a point to be nearby to watch over him.
    I definitely agree with all of these points as they can extremely influence the longevity of your bunny's life. I actually wish I would have done blood tests sooner when he turned 3 during his annual check-up so that I could've maybe prevented some of the current health issues he has. I think once a bunny turns 3, an annual check up should include a blood test or ultrasounds which can give you valuable information about their organs and hemoglobin/sugar levels. It'll help let the owners know if they have too much sugar in their diet, are dehydrated, or even more serious conditions like organ disease/failure.

      Wow, you know what to do- but why Just one Bunny? It's Essential for them to have another one around...keeping one alone is not natural and Not good for it's mental health, consider getting a playmate because you can't be around your Bunny 24/7 like another bunny

    • @Msxallisonwonderland
      @Msxallisonwonderland 3 роки тому +10

      @@markb.562 Thanks for your suggestion, however, my boy is way to poorly to introduce that amount of stress into his life. Before his diagnosis, he was actually in a trial bonding situation, but that stress caused his condition to worsen very rapidly. As his owner, I am doing the most responsible thing I can do and the best for his health. He is as happy as he can be being a single bun. If he was blessed with his illnesses being completely healed, then I would not even hesitate to introduce a friend. However, those are not in his cards.
      Remember that not every bunny is meant for a bonded fur mate even though we think it may be the best option. It really depends on each rabbit.

He did have a buddy until start of 2020, but when the buddy passed I decided not to get another bun. His health would make bonding very difficult, and while I fully agree that buns need a lot of socialisation i'm thankfully in a position to give a lot since I work from home - my office is in his room so I can give help/assurance when needed and he knows where I am so he can come over if he's lonely. My Holland lop is 10 years old. This year he started having dental problems. He’s had 2 dental operations this year. The vet said that dwarf rabbits are susceptible to dental problems. After he’s last dental procedure, he has stopped eating hay. The vet said that this happens to some bunnies as they age because of their dental problems. The vet said to have hay available, but to feed him lots of greens, as well as pellets. The most important thing is to keep his weight up. But I’m worried about him. Hope your bun is doing better now and eating hay again.
      If not, this might be worth a try:
      Make haycoocies.
      Blend pellets, hay and veggies (or water) in a blender or foodprocessor until it forms a stiff dough.
      Feed small doughballs to your bun. Can be stored in fridge for a few days.
      Or form thin cookies from the dough and dehydrate in fooddehydrator, or in oven on lowest setting with ovendoor slightly open till completely crisp and dry.
      Can be stored for a few months (at least) if stored cool and dry in an airtight container.
      Hope your bun will eat this 'machine-chewed' hay. 🍀

We made her own little park with grass and shelter , that she loves! We love her and she’s brought so much joy to our home.

The best for the digestive system are fresh gras, herbs and veggies. Everbody knows when drying food, it is loosing vitamins. The same with hay. Also Pellets are the worst food you can give. Regarding #2 Not spaying and neutering and one you didn't mention: not giving regular belly checks. I've had my bunnies for 4.5 years and I just had to put my first bunny down today. I didn't get her spayed when she was younger because her cagemate was also female. I was also *too* lenient about my bunnies desire not to be picked up or have their belly touched. Two months ago I finally noticed a lump, but it was too late to have it removed. Today I had to put my bunny down because her mammary tumors had gotten too big and her belly skin was getting gangrene. Please get your bunny fixed and please check them all over for lumps on a regular basis.

    Along the lines of ignoring safety measures: as a rule of thumb, do *not* use disposable pee pads for litter boxes. They are dangerous for your bunny, as the bunny can chew it up and ingest some of it. Plus, they are very wasteful and bad for the environment. A much better option would be to use more natural materials for litter box bedding, like pine pellets and paper based litter. These options are also compostable/biodegradable, which makes them better for the environment and makes litter box cleanup super easy if you’re able to dump the soiled litter outside. If you live in an apartment and can’t dump the litter outside, you can also get biodegradable trash bags for litter and other compostable items.

    There’s always that one person who will not follow any of these rules or at most maybe 1 or 2(like the hay), have their bunny prematurely pass on, then wonder how they passed. Like they will generally be confused how their bunny passed and many of them will not fix these mistakes she; brought to attention which is the saddest part.
    Then there’s that other person who will do absolutely no research on bunnies, get a bunny, and uh yeah. Then occasionally they’ll Google something and the first thing Google says they’re like “ok :)”
    People need to learn to research about the pet they want to get before getting it so accidents don’t happen or so the pet doesn’t prematurely pass, especially small animals because people will just listen to whatever the pet store worker tells them and they’ll be stereotypical ofc so then the person buys small cages, or some will just be like “they’re a cage animal/small animal buy them a little cage and they’re good”. It’s really sad because so much could be prevented with a little bit of research.
