Just performed this procedure on my boys cj5 build. Very good explanation. Really impressed your busting this out and sticking to it....right after the feugo block is complete too.
Mike B hey man i gotta ask my brake system has a lotta air in it and i just replaced the clutch master and i bleeding the air out but the clutch remain soft.. so can the break system be my problem?
this didn't work for me , I had to hand bleed the slave for around 10 minutes then manually press the clutch in and out around 500 times and it eventually got all the air out
Looking forward to see your weight difference with the 5spd vs auto. Side note read an article last night stating that our 5spd is more durable than the 6 spd box hmmm. ---Jalopnik
I havent done the curb weight test on it, I will when ive finished the series. I too am curious, it should be cool. the ZF's are pretty stout. I like the 5 speeds, I will probably do a 6 speed conversion to the droptop but I plan on keeping the sedan a 5
Hey I don’t know if you still check on these comments but i think I’m having the same problem, when the car is running and the clutch is in it’s impossible to get into gear but when the cars off it’ll go in just fine. I’ve read some things saying that the slave might not be pressing in far enough and is therefore not disengaging the clutch. Any advice would be greatly appreciated
@@joshpalmer264 The pressure plate bolts weren’t torqued all the way down for my issue. The pressure plate wasn’t engaging to let the car go into gear while it was running (spinning). I used a alan key not realizing they had to be torqued to a specific spec. It’s a pain I know but that’s where I would check first for sure. Once i torqued them to spec, put everything back together it went into gear just fine.
Hi Clark. I was just wondering if you might know this answer I replace my clutch on 1027/17 with l165,211 mi on it and now the clutch is starting to slip. when I replace the clutch I replaced the flywheel the pressure plate and of course the clutch and everything else along the way .and now the clutch slipping with less than $37,000 miles on it. The car now has a total of 201712 on it right now. And I never beat on my car whatsoever . Do you think this is normal for a clutch to wear out that fast or could there's something else be wrong it never gave me any problems until recently it started to slip and now I can barely drive it without it slipping totally. It engages very high up on the clutch but barely really moves at all. Any input from you would be great. I watch all your videos and you do a great job. Thank you Clark
my clutch is for some reason sitting a few inches higher than my other pedals.. just recently replaced master cylinder (thanks to your video!) but still not feeling resistance on the clutch and it gets stuck down like you showed in the video but it’s sitting higher than it should and i’m not sure why. any ideas? i’m assuming i’ll need a new slave cylinder
Ya that made me look twice also. Interesting feature that BMW didn't run a second reservoir for the slave cylinder. In there it MAY increase your chances of losing brake pressure if the clutch line popped, leaked, or let go somehow. Looking to complete an ABS delete in the near future and will have to examine if this will be an issue.
@@mikeb2496 the line that goes from the reservoir to the clutch slave cylinder is not attached to the bottom of the reservoir. It is around half way. So even if you lose your clutch line it will only drain the reservoir half. Those Germans know what they are doing.
Good vid. Think my slave or master is on the way out so i'll be tackling this soon. The pedal is starting to stick to the floor and not return to its normal spot and getting the car in gear is a bitch sometimes, and also the other day driving it home my brake pedal got stiff as fuck. Got some digging to do should be fun lol
M3NACE I just started bleeding it I’m not to sure how it’s done I got my friend pumping the clutch and I’m under the car opening and closing the valve. How long does it take to bleed
oh lol thats dope the store i work at you might've heard of it used to be #1 in the country but not anymore. it set the record for most cars down though. pretty sure it was like 110 cars down by close lmao
Hey man, good video I have bled my brakes after rebuild, but suddenly my clutch pedal has no pressure. At the clutch slave only air comes out no fluid. It worked before rebuild of the brakes
@@M3NACE yeah ive tryed, it builds airpressure when i pump the pedal but fluid doesnt come out. Today im checking the line from above. Thanks for the reply
Thank you for producing these. I am 1 day away from successfully completing a manual swap on my 1999 M3🙏

My clutch pedal randomly went out like no pressure on it just goes all the way down, if i bleed could that fix it?
Hey I have a solid steam coming out but the clutch pedal feels extremely loose
Same?!?! Did u figure it out
What’s up man I tried this for about 45 minutes and I have fluid flowing through but for some reason pedal is not getting hard
Arthur I need those extra hands lol

I dont know man but were almost to 10k! lol
Do you have jack stands under the car!?!? I don't see any...
yup! car is on stands.

anyone know why the car won’t go into gear? bled for a long time. when trying to go into first it’ll inch forward but won’t actually go into gear.
Running?

Sorry guys, I have an automatic E36. Clutch and brakes use the same fluid on manuals? I'm a little confused.
yes. they all use dot 4 brake fluid

i thought manual cars have like a clutch master cylinder reservoir like the brake cylinder but under the hood
nope, some cars do, but E36's feed straight off the brake master reservoir.

How much time takes it approximately to completely bleed? I did this today and I feel my clutch is taking a lot of travel to be able to shift. 🤔
Ive got one of those power bleeders for my brakes. I wonder if that would work for the clutch too since it's the same reservoir.
it should do the trick nicely.
Confirmed, like menace says. It'll work

Either the clutch is bled incorrectly or the clutch disc is backwards. Have you bled it thoroughly?
