- At the moment the United States Senate is debating military aid to Ukraine, but Senators are guaranteeing that after time to speak as expired, a final vote will occur tonight. The Russians have been caught off guard by this unexpected vote and they assumed it would never happen. Military aid is already positioned in Poland and Germany and will immediately start flowing into Ukraine as soon as Biden signs the aid bill.

Jake, you asked what putler wants, so here is my opinion: he wants Ukraine to surrender. He wants to 'absorb' most of it into russia and install a puppet regime to control the rest. He will then attack Moldova and if successful, make a corridor to the enclave on the black sea. After that, he would attack Baltic states.
These are his wants. This will never happen. Ukraine has shown that putler's military is not capable of fulfilling his wet dreams of building USSR 2.0 using military force.
A Chinese professor recently provided a pretty reasonable explanation of why putler will lose, it was published in the economist, titled "Russia is sure to lose in Ukraine". It is just a question of time IMO. Time translates to tens of thousands of lives lost, unfortunately. Hopefully the west has finally woken up and more lives can be saved!

What’s next?
My hunch is use drones to make a no man’s land along the original U / R border to starve Russia’s front line of fuel, food, munitions and troops. Then push Russia out of Ukraine.
I don’t know if it’s that simple. But I hope it is.
The next step... help Ukraine generate their economy and weapons production so they don’t need more loans or donations.

My congressperson voted for the Ukraine aid bill after I contacted her office a week prior to the vote. She seemed resistant in her response, but ultimately voted for the measure. 👍
I've been emailing my Republican Representative Pete Stauber about supporting the UA aid bill regularly for months. He just sends a form letter in response. He voted against it. That pissed me off.

I know it's the big packages from US, UK and France that tend to make the headlines, but I can absolutely assure you that you're not forgotten by your Baltic and Nordic brothers. But since all the NB8 countries only count 27 million people in total, and we deliver our "care packages" separately, it doesn't sound like much. We do, however, average over 3x more per citizen than the US. And we will continue to do so until Russia has been thrown out.

For anyone wondering, it looks like Denmark's F-16 fleet consists of 48 operational and 14 spares, all of which were given a mid-life modernization. Thank you Denmark!
People are talking about F16s way too much, its not even gonna change much, air defense and long range missiles (from ground vehicles like Himars) is much more effective than jets
They are going to buy F-35's instead.

@@Elatenl The F-16s will not be a magic bullet BUT they will add to Air Defense, they can supplement the Armor and Artillery and they will help form an Integrated Air Defense System that will push back VKS Strikers and Support Aircraft. The F-16s will be very helpful with combined arms.
As an American, on the center-right. I am disgusted at all those who obstructed aid to Ukraine. I have never felt more frustrated with the political process in my country.

It's a loophole that was always taken advantage of.
I don't mind the concept of the filibuster. BUT the person who is speaking should be forced to speak on the topic at hand, and ONLY the bill that is being presented. Reading from Dr. Seuss or the New York phone directory should be prohibited, because allowing anything else makes a travesty of the democratic process.
By the way, one attempt at a filibuster in Canada was done by Sir John A. McDonald in order to try and keep construction going on the CPR. He spoke for over 12 hours, drinking gin the whole time. But he only spoke about the political crisis and the CPR, nothing else (except to answer or reply to name calling).
They don’t allow you to deviate from the topic in a courtroom, how is this any different? In fact, they should hold time more sacredly in these high-level discussions.

I feel guilty even watching those guys thank us. They are fighting a fight that could very quickly become our fight. They are just unlucky enough to live on the border with Russians. They are bravely fighting a war aimed at us because of their geographic location. We shouldn't be dilly dallying about money or weapons. The fact that we left them hanging for 6 months embarrasses me to my core.
Don't feel bad, the majority of Americans wanted to help. Democracy can be rough. This plus what the UK and EU are sending is going to make this summer very dangerous for the Russians.

While I will remain a proud Republican, I shall work to bring the party back into line with the values of the Reagan era. I hold no recriminations against anyone, even Mr. Trump. But it’s time to move past this return to Isolationism, and act as a great nation which protects freedom everywhere.

It's both astonishing and disgusting that a senator (Vance) can simply waste the time by reading Dr Seuss while humans on the battlefield in Ukraine are dying. If this were to occur in our parliament the Speaker would stop it as a point of order. Why can this not be done in the US?

My family lives in Ukraine and I live in Canada. The Ukrainian city my family lives in gets bombed regularly and by some miracle they are still currently alive. The last 2 years and more have been nerve-racking, and of course this is an understatement. My family in Canada communicate daily with my relatives in Ukraine in hopes that my family in Ukraine are still alive.
