i just got through riding a greyound like this one last week to daytona beach florida and back home..i love riding the greyhound ..engine sounded exactly like this one
I drive coaches like these all the time and most of them have transmission retarders as opposed to Jake Brakes. The reasons being, 1) Transmission retarders are not illegal to use in populated areas whereas engine brakes are. 2) Transmission brakes have a much better stopping power.
Wow for a minute this Series 60 almost sounds like his younger brother the Series 50 engine. They are tough sounding engines, and it sucks that the EGR was the cause of why these 2 engines are no longer produced
They're actually still running this bus, but up here in the north now. It was refurbed and has a new drivetrain and I think that newer Cummins or Caterpillar engine (they're all starting to sound alike now). It's still coach 6610. I wish the lady who was driving at the time had been more confident, as I wanted to hear this bus go through its paces.
I really wish that Daimler Chrysler would make more transit buses that way we can enjoy riding the DD13 engines, and as for the DD15 & DD16 engines, it looks like the only buses to get them are Setra Buses
Well the good thing is that the DD13, DD15, and DD16 engines are going be around in 2010, and I think only Daimler Chrysler Buses and Trucks will have these engines. Sucks that MCI won't be getting them though
Agreed. This is the only worthy successor to the Pepsi can. The scheme after just sucked imo, like how the red white and blue stripes that lined above the window, I noticed the white was more of a gray 🤢 and they ruined the 12's by painting over the steel siding. Still, even that was better than what we have now.
Detroit Diesel engine's sound is delicious for the ears!
Nothing like a overnight trip.
I love the sound of that engine

Just sounds sooo powerful. (which is is :p) I love the little scream it has. Awsome videos.
These motorcoaches were introduced as the 102DL3's.
This is a great recording, but I wish there was a video.

The cause is they do not meet 2010 emmissions.
@mmaese10 Why did it break down? Agreed, DL3 is my fav!
@JTyler52 actually..about 450 hp powerful these coaches will go as fast uphill as they will downhill i ride them alot
That sounds like the bus I rode on from Houston to Mobile :-)
The operator turn the Jake Brakes off in cities

@sideslide23 I don't know why you would post that, that's information that should be kept to yourself.
is this but in the picture the one you rode on?
I don't hear any Jake Brakes!!!! Can anyone pinpoint where they hear it @???
I remember the 102 Dl3
Why is it nowadays these ars mostly standard? When i was younger they were all automatic???
No. Every GLI bus in the USA that is in revenue service is Automatic..
ZF is still considered an Automatic transmission. Only a handful know how to properly use it as a semi- automatic.
Yes.
joshalex93 do you which 102dl3s remain the allison b500 engine still?
I don't know exact fleet numbers, all I can say is it varies from bus to bus.
Should have stayed with this paint scheme.
Agreed. This is the only worthy successor to the Pepsi can.

Detroit diesel series 60 engine with a b500 Allison transmission thanks Tony but they sucks and blows
