I love how the D3/DL3s handle. In the past, ive heard from word of mouth how it drives & performs...so far Im glad to have experienced it firsthand. The drivers area is very comfortable and ergonomic than what Im used to driving nowadays. lol
@phsycopiano - You can use any lane u want. If you have a few passengers on board, you can use the carpool lanes. Sorry for taking too long as I was in Northern CA on a charter.
on the way back, I actually had the mode button on. I noticed it when it went to gear early. One thing about this bus in particular is that it shifted very smoothly. This one also didnt have a jake brake... it had a retarder.
Oh, press the MODE button on the Allison, it is the performance mode pretty much shifts at a higher RPM and holds the gear longer. It also causes in the B500 world to go into 6th gear early. In the Gen4 B500 it goes into 6th later, at 55 your in 5th or 6th. Play with it you will find out. MCI's rock!
Eddie a 102DL3 is awesome, I've driven a C3 with a shitty L10 Cummins, no fun. The DL's feel so big and heavy, a dream to drive. I think the transit versions have the signals on the floor, personally I favor the floor signals over the column. Lastly, the cockpit of a DL, it feels WAY more ergonomic and bus like than the VH's I drive.
here in washington state part of sound transit use mci buses for daily transit use. they are nice too. i rode on one once and i was like where is the stop requested bell tape or pull cord and i noticed it was up above with the light switch but still nice buses none the less
@phsycopiano - these particular MCIs handle pretty well. I had one for the last few days, as i had to take a group of people from L.A. to King City. It handled great. Some of them have jake brakes like trucks too. Some are governed between 65-70
I would love to learn how to drive a mci or van hool. Here in michigan there are no public bus driving training schools. Every one is private companies and they will only train you if you apply for a job
The bus he is driving is a motor coach. Only public transit bus has rear door for passenger exit. The rear door in motor coach is a wheelchair lift access for wheelchair passengers.
Although the luggage storage bays are smaller than the Es/Js, Prevost H or VanHool, I prefer the D series anyday of the week. Late 90s to current. I fortunately had a chance to drive the 2011 Setra S417. Its a huge improvement over the early models. However, they are expensive to maintain
@busrailfan - shit it would be cool if it had a back door lol. Setting jokes aside, last night I had the opprotunity to drive a VanHool C2045. Comparing the C2045 to a D Series, the 2045 had a more comfortable feel to it. Drivers area is more spacious for even the biggest operator. Im not a fan of the the picture switches. Took me about to 6 minutes to figure what they all do.
ea90744, do you drive buses for a living? If so, what models do you all have in your fleet at work? Also, what are you favorite models of buses personally?
How do those things handle with the air ride susp. Do they drive as comfortable as a car. I drive semis for a live and ive always wanted to drive a bus.
What do you think about the MCI MC-8's and MC-9's? Which model would you purchase for a small charter business or for a personal coach? Please don't hold back on your response!!!!
Yes perfectly aware of that. It was meant as a joke but I guess not a very good one. Sorry about that. I am a Transit Operator and have also driven many motor coaches.

Nice video! Love that we have the same taste in music too!

@Chesterbarnes1 - The new Greyhound Scheme looks Great. It would look great on the DL3s.

@mc9man - I drive buses for a living. I drive NABIs, MCI, Blue Birds, VanHools, and actually own a CNG Bus

this bus was originally an ex- Action Transit ( PA ) MCI. I forgot the actual number of this bus.
@mmffl123456 - yeah i found that out a
couple hours afterwards. I was thrilled.
LOL! Someone honked back at you after you found the floor button horn?
What is your comments about the Silver Eagles used by Trailways. How about the J4500 used by Greyhound now, the newer coaches?
No Back door!?! Yeah I know they have no back door. SO I will just use the emergency release on the window in the back! Nice video BTW! :p
Oh ok! Thought I heard a faint "MEEEP"!!
Give comments on the new MCI J4500, I think Greyhound is using them now
@ea90744 You can use any lane you want right and do motor coach operaters have to do a log book?
What do you think aboaut the new Greyhound Prevost Buses with the dark blue livery?
ea90744, do you drive buses for a living? If so, what models do you all have in your fleet at work? Also, what are you favorite models of buses personally?
Great video. Is this coach equiped with a hydraulic transmission retarder, or an electrogmagentic driveline retarder?
@mmffl123456 - im afraid to ask. Why does MCI have to change over to picture switches ? The old way was perfectly fine. If it aint broke, dont fix it

@mc9man - I like both equally...its a hard decision. Ive driven a 9 before. Probably an 8
