Loving your testing basics series! Just wanted to give a comment about the materials. Pieces that have a high content of "natural materials" (like the Acne sweater with 100% wool) will often pill more in the beginning, but after a while (and after you have removed the bobbles a couple of times, and maybe washed it) the bobbling will be dramatically reduced. So I feel like they are a bit high maintenance in the beginning, but after some time it will definitely be worth it. I do for example have a couple of knits with 100% wool, alpaca, cashmere and such, that I bought used some years ago, and they still look great. Also remember that those materials are self-cleaning, so you should not wash them often, just hang them up in fresh air :)
Just thought!... Would you ever consider doing a gold-plated jewellery testing basics? Like pendant necklaces or simple rings etc. It would be so helpful to know whether splashing out on designer/independent-jeweller-shop pieces is worth it, or if gold plating is the same across the board. Thanks for doing this series!
Just wanted to say I just love your Testing Basics series!! The range in prices, quality and options in fashion is so tedious to navigate! I love how you evaluate items for practicality and not just how good it looks in a photo! I just love your videos!
I always wash my wool and cashmere jumpers in the washing maschine. I use a good wool detergent and put it on the wool cycle (low temperature and only around 600-800 rpm). After washing I put the jumpers in the tumble dryer for 5min (I have a specific wool programm) to "fluff" the wool back up and then dry them on a flat surface (drying rack with a bath towel on top). Have never shrunk or distroyed a wool jumper.
I don't think you were mean, rather honest in a constructively critical way. I love your Testing Basics series, and I swoon every time I see that Jigsaw coat. Your video makes me even more excited for the cold winter months!
You've certainly figured out how to style the new haircut. Looking ever so beautiful! Love to see sweaters. I love cozy, comfortable casual clothes and this video.
Just a little tip, with all wool, its better to hang the knitwear outside when its snowing or rain (In a dry place outside) because then moist in the air is cleaning it. Or ideally, if theres snow on the ground, bury it under the clean snow. Simply because its not good for the wool to be washed to often. Thats what we were taught, when I was studying to become a fashion buyer. :)
I'm so sad it's summer in Australia now! Can't wait for your summer testing basics next year. I think you might have forgotten to put the link for the heated drying rack in the description box. Loved the video xx
My mother taught me to dry knit jumpers rolled up in a towel on a radiator. After 24 hours you might have to roll it again in a dry towel, so drying can take a couple of days. But it doesn't get stretched out of shape, and there is no direct heat from the radiator but still the towel helps to dry. Works fine for me ☺
I don't think you were being too negative, I think you were being completely realistic, which I sooooooo appreciate. all of the jumpers were lovely, but your testing helps me so much with choosing something stylish and that will work in my budget. Have you ever heard of the brand Hunkydory? they're a Swedish clothing company and have some really cool jumpers. I bought one last year and really, really loved it. I think you might like their aesthetic.
That makes so much sense that expensive things should be easy to wear and pair with your clothes, I never really thought about that. Its better to invest in some great quality basics than a fancy dress etc. that you will wear maybe a couple of times. By the way, love the testing basics series :)
Really happy to see the And Other Stories in first place because it was my favorite one on. Great video and really helpful with you being ruthless haha. I hate hand washing anything too and haaaaate when things go wacky in shape and bobble so I totally agree with all your comments.
I am totally the same I always go the size up with my knitwear. I love the oversized fit, loved this video! Knitwear have to be my favourite thing about this time of the year.
Hey, just wanted to quickly suggest - you can fold your sweaters under once (so kind of folding up the extra length and inside so that you can't see it) before you tuck them in, it really reduces the volume and makes it very manageable even for huge knits
Thank you for another testing basics!! I love the & Other Stories Knit and it looks great on you :) The Acne one is really cool and fashionable but I wouldn't be able to justify myself for its price tag! I look forward to watching the flat boots episodes next time, thank you for the hard work (as always) :D
Loved this! I don't think you were overly harsh, just honest. I, personally, don't spend that much on chunky knit jumpers and only splurge on cashmere jumpers.
Just wondering how often you'd wash and dry chunky knits. I try staying away from these thick pieces because of the effort required for washing...but i absolutely love them!!!
@lizzyhadfield I wear a jumper similar to the acne jumper by Andersen Andersen. They're around £200 so a bit cheaper. I find I can wash it and then I put it flat in my airing cupboard. Or I dry clean them. Personally I don't was my chunky knits as much as my fine knits as I treat them as jackets. Hope this helps X
Hi Lizzy - still love this series and love your hair too! It would be great it if you could add where the pieces were manufactured/made but of course I understand if that would be too much info to include. xx
Hello. I just discovered your channel and absolutely love it! Can I ask what designer the burnt orange coat is you wore over the Acne sweater near the end of the video? Thanks!
Hi Lizzy what size did you get the 'And other stories' black jumper in? do you know if the store in Manchester has much knitwear or do you think its best to buy online,i was thinking of taking a trip to Manchester this week xxx
dear lizzy, thank you for this helpful video I very much enjoyed it! I've learned some helpful facts about knits! always be that hones with your opinions! as to your new hair, you mentioned in one of your last vlogs that you don't really like your hair, the texture of it etc., well that's just us humans isn't it, we have flat hair we want curves and the opposite! :D I like your hair, and especially your color! do you dye them? if yes, could you show us how you (or your hairdresser) does it, because you have such lovely lighter 'strands' and everything & I just really really really like it :) xo
Your WATCH! I love love love. Where is it from?! You should definitely do a video about how to shop for a watch and your collection...if you have one. Thank you! :)
Heyyy i want you to do over the knee boots styling more, because i got the black one today, but i can't style it with my jeans (actually this boots don't look good except my black pants) i'm looking forward to your styling tips
Been watching that pink/burgundy jumper on the top shop website since I watched this video and just got it for £22 with Black Friday sale and added student discount!
Zara knits are just not worth it. Very affordable, yes, even more so when you buy them here in Spain, but disappointing quality, especially the ones with mohair. Even after the first wash, they look worn out. So not worth it.
The Acne jumper is very expensive for two reasons: 1. you're paying for the brand name and 2. you're paying for quality. You said it yourself, the jumper is 100% wool. Pure wool is very expensive. I tried to knit my own jumper and spent 180 euros on the materials alone. I will never pay even 40 euros for those polyamide, viscose knits that high street brands sell. That is the real highway robbery if you ask me. Natural fibers feel better on skin in my opinion. But hey, that's just me.
THIS IS THE BEST BLOODY SERIES ON UA-cam
Agree!

you are not mean you are just honest and that is why i watch this series! keep it that way lizzy

Have you thought about doing a video going through all your testing basics and just doing updates after you have worn the items over time?
Yes please!!!!

Love how organized you are!!! Not like other bloggers who never remember anything and want to put the info in the box. Cool vids
Lizzy, honestly, i love this concept and the way you present it!
Also hand washing jumpers is the bane of my life!! I find cashmere to be so much easier than wool
I love these testing basics videos. There's is no way I'd spend £300 on a jumper. Loved the And other story's jumper.
That makes so much sense that expensive things should be easy to wear and pair with your clothes, I never really thought about that. Its better to invest in some great quality basics than a fancy dress etc. that you will wear maybe a couple of times.

YES I've been waiting for this one! I always find it difficult to find numbers that wash well, I think I'll head to &Other Stories this weekend!
I love the TopShop one - it's a bit unusual and super flattering!
Honestly, I love your ruthlessness!
Thank you for another testing basics!! I know right! Knitwear has to be one of my favourite things about this season
Loved this! I don't think you were overly harsh, just honest. I, personally, don't spend that much on chunky knit jumpers and only splurge on cashmere jumpers.
I just found your channel and I have to say I'm obsessed! Your style is amazing x subscribed!

Love love love your hair - so pretty. I really liked the Acne jumper - as I'm am a lot shorter than you I would style it as a dress.
Obsessed with the black shirt you're wearing at the start - where is it from? xx
Loving this video!! good to know how the sweater hold up with machine wash as I machine wash everything... pretty much

Hello from south of France! Love your videos! Just a question what size did you take for the acne studio jumper??? Thanks in advance! 😄
Hello. I just discovered your channel and absolutely love it! Can I ask what designer the burnt orange coat is you wore over the Acne sweater near the end of the video? Thanks!
Loving this series! When will the flat boots one be? I really need some for winter but have been holding off.
Great video! I really enjoyed watching it :)
loved this video loved every piece
This series is a great idea thanks.
Washing knitwear is my worst nightmare. I am currently hand washing a khaki jumper of mine whilst I have your video playing lol!
You need a bobble-off gadget! They're a must for removing bobbles and freshening up wool garms (I think mines from JML) x
Hi Lizzy what size did you get the 'And other stories' black jumper in? do you know if the store in Manchester has much knitwear or do you think its best to buy online,i was thinking of taking a trip to Manchester this week xxx
please do a video on how you maintain your fringe because your hair looks soooo good
dear lizzy, thank you for this helpful video I very much enjoyed it! I've learned some helpful facts about knits! always be that hones with your opinions!

Lizzy. Love your content!! Can you do a testing basics for silk flowy blouses? Please 😁😁
Where is the drying rack from? Sorry, I didn't see the link.
You should have done a h&m knit.. love them
Love your watch :-) , where is it from ?
What is the brand of the black cross body bag you wore with your acne knit? Thanks!
Lizzy you should take that All Saints one back. It's a lot of money to spend on something that is ruined through no fault of your own. x
Been watching that pink/burgundy jumper on the top shop website since I watched this video and just got it for £22 with Black Friday sale and added student discount!
This might sound crazy but you should add primark too it would be fun to see how it compares to the other high street pieces
I feel like Gap is a good place for knitwear because the price is reasonable and the quality is decent
Could you link to the striped shirt/sweater you wear at the end of the video? I love it!
Parkas?
My wee Canadian heart needs it.
hey lizzy, you should buy a cashmere comb they are great for getting rid of bobbling on wool items and only a couple of pounds.
please link your heated drying rack :D!
i dont buy anything with mohair !!! the way the treat the animal is cruel. i stopped asap buying mohair knits or anything related .
How do u wash ur Acne sweater?
thumbs up for the armpit thing haha
Zara knits are just not worth it. Very affordable, yes, even more so when you buy them here in Spain, but disappointing quality, especially the ones with mohair. Even after the first wash, they look worn out. So not worth it.

:( may fave ended up being the most expensive...
You can buy a fabric shaver to remove the balls on the sweaters.
pralinecookies that's what I do!
Bleh, hate the one by Zara. Others are lovely, and All Saints looks great on you.
Wool needs to be dry cleaned that's why your sweaters lost shape
