I’ve watched you since you had 9k subscribers. I’m now 63 and can assure you that you can absolutely live in NYC and London in your 50s! Even in your 60s and beyond. Don’t limit yourself. You’ll feel just like you do now as you continue to age. Life gets easier. You care less about what others think. It’s lovely. I hope I’m still watching you in my 80s…❤

I think the only reason why you can't picture yourself still doing this as your job at 50 is because there aren't any 50 year olds doing this yet, but I think that's only because the internet wasn't around in this way when they were our age? I think everyone doing this as their job now will just continue to grow with it and I don't see why it would have to end just because you're getting older? Because as your audience we're getting older right alongside you…

There is someone doing this in their later years - Middleagedminx for example. She does You Tube and promotes herself working with brands showing clothes and skincare and works as a DJ for the BBC. She’s in her late 60s. I think she’s just been clever because she’s worked out there’s a gap in the industry for people her age. But there others too. MiddleAgedMinx just came to mind as she does a lot of work.

This is such a good point, I’m sure the industry will grow a lot in that way. Its sometimes more that I don’t know if I can keep filming myself / looking at myself for another 20 years 😂 but that’s speaking from a negative place I’ve been in this week, I still get so much joy from this job!

This may be a strange comment but I have often thought about you in the context of “I wonder if she is fulfilled by her job and how long will it last”. I am sure you will have many many viewers for many years to come. I think you are very brave to do the book club/move back and forth to the States but you make it all look so breezy and relaxed.

to be honest Lizzy I think I was once one of those people commenting like 'it's so extravagant to live in both those cities' at one point and it was because...I envied you! Haha I would LOVE to split my time between where I live in the US and somewhere in Europe. And I guess it's easy for a lot of us to think, "well, *she* could do that but I can't do that because I don't have the money/time/flexibility etc etc." but sometimes those reasons are just excuses we make for not taking our own dreams and desires seriously. But I think it's so cool that you've made that happen. I've followed you since your Manchester days and to see how you've grown and created a life for yourself full of these possibilities, it's really impressive.

I mean men will live a double life and have a secret family, so maybe people criticising you for living in two places could gain a little perspective on the ways you could be living your life. People with more money than you have multiple properties in multiple cities, and fly to them by private jet. In my opinion, we should all be allowed to live the best life we can with the money that we have, and unless you're moving into billionaire territory when you should have a word with yourself and your ethics (8 men have more money than 3.6 billion people), I think women seem to receive far more criticism for living what people suggest is a 'selfish' life, and a life of certain privilege, but is really just living the best life they possibly can. And like GaGa said in her documentary, "I don't feel embarrassed or ashamed about what I have", and you shouldn't either. Yes you're lucky, and yes people will be envious, and yes people are less fortunate, and yes people will give you shit about it, but you're obviously a good person (without a secret 2nd family). And I would certainly live this way if I was able to, I think we all would.
    God that was a paragraph.
In conclusion all I'm trying to say is be more like Gaga I guess!!

I think what I've always loved about your approach to life and the content you create is that you're drawn to stuff with integrity. Having a higher than average wage could have brought with it a comfortable numbness but I always enjoy your perspective on the world and I never feel like you're serving us up the conveyor line of this month's press releases/launch parties. I like seeing the things you choose for your home and I enjoy that you love clothes with interesting design details and quality craftsmanship. I also love that read so much. Ultimately I think that interesting people are interested people. And I think you're both of those things.

I can totally understand how that feeling of freedom is worth it and if anything, you should be proud of yourself. Not everything is down to luck, you’ve also worked very hard for this and made sacrifices along the way which others may not have made. That’s why you are where you are right now. I am 10 yrs older than you and the only advice I have: give yourself the credit for what you have achieved. You’ll never regret that later on in life! X

Can relate to the feeling of feeling a bit „blah“ and „meh“ so much at the moment. And you‘re right, it‘s a phase, it comes and goes. I never miss a vlog and don’t find it self indulgent at all. You’re giving so much of yourself to strangers on the internet trusting that we all respect you. That’s brave. Your lifestyle is inspiring and beautiful. The other thing that would be so helpful to know is how you’ve built your career. As you were mentioning how much UA-cam and instagram have changed it strikes me what an outlier you (and your peers) are. Very committed to the art of it without having to be involved in the “sleazy” side of the influencer culture, if that makes any sense.

Hi Lizzy! Lovely to see a new video. Sorry to hear that the situation with your skin is taking the spark out of your everyday life. I have been through this in the past and surely it will happen again, but I really try to be more kind to myself. Seems like simple and obvious ‘advice’ but it helps me if I really actually do it. I try to remind myself that I would never think the way I feel about myself in these moment about anybody else. And I try to think about other forms of beauty and inspiration in the world other than appearance; like beautiful buildings, nice food and drinks, trees and flowers etc. I understand that this is harder when this is your job, but I hope that you are able to see that people like to see your content for way more than the way you look, or what you are wearing. Be kind to yourself! Maybe very obvious, but I hope it helps a little, maybe. 🧡

Lizzy, enjoy this phase of your live unapologetically. You’re living your dream and partially mine as well ( i would do NY tomorrow, not London lol) and i have no problem in saying that. People commenting on your “extravagant lifestyle” are probably not chasing their dreams and are, deep down, mad at themselves. Everything you’re doing you’ve earn it and continuing to do so with your job, as far as I’m aware you’re not robbing banks 😊. And you should be nothing but proud of yourself for following your dreams. Enjoy life always, this path can be so short!

Just a comment on the skincare, it might be worth reviewing your cleansing technique as it might be that you’re not getting rid of your SPF/build up enough. Try a simple oil cleanser (Caudalie is a good gentle one) and massage it in dry for 1 minute, emulsify it with water and then rinse off (a clean face halo is good for getting it all off quickly) then follow with your current cleanser for another minute and wash off. Try doing it only at night before bed and see if you have an improvement with your simplified skincare routine 🤞that might help

Paused the video to chip in my skin advice ! Good call stripping back I would use very general face wash and you can slip the moisturizer (derm tip) until the active breakouts are cleared - change pillowcase twice a week - use a paper towel to dry your face never a towel even a clean towel has bacteria, my saving grace has been “the ordinary niacinamide 10% +zinc 1%” sweat to god it got rid of my formal acne - I’m 32 btw. I hope these help you or anyone who tries these things! I have had clean skin for over a year by using and doing these things after a lifetime of issues.

I think with fast content being more common, like anything, things come back around and I think these longer videos are starting to develop in to "slow content" almost like a visual meditation in a way. When I watch videos like yours (and similar creators) it quiets my mind in a way that I struggle to do on my own and that netflix or short content just makes worse.
So keep doing this for as long as you wish because as someone else here said your viewers are getting older each year as well. I'm a millenial and I'm sure I'll be in the old folks home following some 85 year old creator on tips how to play bridge and tie scarfs. 😂

Have you seen a dermatologist? as opposed to a facialist? i’m emerging from a time that I felt flat about my appearance. taking the time to do my hair with some new tools, laser face treatments to brighten and address texture, plus exercise really helping to pull me out of the slump.

  • @iwtlhs112
    @iwtlhs112 4 місяці тому +3

When it comes to your skin, you should probably just see a dermatologist if you haven't already. Facials are great and all, but esthetician can't diagnose skin conditions and give you medical prescription treatments. I had a couple of dry patches last year for months and all the estheticians I saw assumed it was due to dry skin and using retinol and gave me thick creams. I finally see a dermatologist and turns out it's actually seborrheic dermatitis. I got the prescribed cream and it immediately got better. If it's really impacting you, definitely recommend seeking help from a dermatologist.

Hi lovely, I'm sorry you're struggling with your skin.. I did also into my 30s, which is really tough. I have found the best thing has been using natural skincare products but most of all niacinamide has been my hero product. A small amount every night for a min of 6 weeks made a huge difference, I'm convinced that is what banished my acne. I also use the sukin charcoal cleanser, a natural oil for deep moisture (which weirdly doesn't make me breakout) at night and a very light moisturiser (again with minimal & natural ingredients) during the day along with a drop of hyaluronic acid as a base. making sure devices are regularly dettolled as well is a good one to stop spreading too much bacteria on the face with grubby fingers etc. Makeup wise, I love the glossier concealer and also recommend Inika foundation. I hope you can get to the bottom of it! You are beautiful regardless, it never looks as bad to other people that it does to ourselves

Thanks for the recommendation. This is the second time I discovered an amazing artist from watching one of your vlogs. Regarding your skin, the best solution is to see a good dermatologist. Feeling good with ones skin is so important so it's worth it to see a specialist (a doctor who can recommend the right treatment) and not just facialists which could aggravate your skin. But honestly your skin concerns are not so noticeable and I always feel you look so glowy and lovely 🙂

Hey Lizzy, not sure if this is helpful but I used to struggle massively with my skin too in my late 20's which I had never previously had any problems. At the time I was doing shiftwork & spent a fortune trying absolutely everything but nothing worked. Once I stopped shiftwork though my skin cleared up really quickly & I have never had any problems since. I wonder if the 5hr New york/London time difference is playing a part with your skin. Obviously you aren't going to change your lifestyle & nor should you, but I wonder if the 5hr time difference is enough to throw your circadian rythym & digestive system out of wack. It'd be interesting to hear if any of your other viewers have had similar skin issues with shiftwork? Or whether my experience was just coincidental.

Hi Lizzy love your content as always. Skincare wise I really recommend the Bioderma soothing anti-blemish care. I think it's called sebium sensitive. It's great when your skin is sensitive and breaks out a lot, and it's great for allergic reactions too.
Also be assured that if anyone has the money and the chance to live between London and NY like you I am 100% sure he will too. You are lucky to have this kind of freedom and mobility and of course, people are gonna be envious but you have earned it all so just enjoy it! love you xx.

Honestly the best thing for skin is Bentonite clay mask every morning for 2mins as soon as it dries out wash it off /don’t use soap, the bentonite clay replaces the soap, and castor oil/diluted with jojoba oil or rosemary oil
The castor oil and bentonite will draw out all toxins under the skin

Honestly, not saying that I think your skin is terrible or that I've had the same exact issues, but I've had my own problems with my skin, and seeing a dermatologist saved me a whole lot of heart ache. If I'd done it earlier, it would have saved me a ton of money as well over the years

The comments you get about living between New York and London reek of jealousy. I understand it isn't always achievable but it's something a lot of people are scared to even admit they want. I also want to add that living between 2 places isn't as rare as it used to be. A lot of people in the diaspora, especially, work towards being able to live between 2 places. It's THE dream for a lot of people I know. But that's a whole other conversation.

do you have any tips when visiting New York for someone who likes walking, museums/art and books, but is easily overwhelmed/overstimulated by large crowds? (or should I even bother? 😅) I love London, where I have figured out how to manage and which areas to avoid (you will never find me in Oxford Street🙅‍♀), so I think I could like New York as well!

Have you ever considered having a chemical peel Lizzy? I had one yesterday, so it's early days for me. Today, I currently resemble the elephant man (down time of a few days), but I am assured that my sun-damaged skin will very shortly have a totally new lease of life. I know that these peels (carried out by a Certified Dermatologist) can be super-effective for scarred/acne prone skin, as the Doctor was telling me that these are the 'most frequently asked for' peels (in his experience). I have hyper-sensitive skin and didn't think this would be something offered to me - however, they have 3 strengths available: mild, medium and deep. Just a thought.....also best to get it done during the cooler/winter months (currently Autumn here in Australia) as direct sunlight needs to be avoided for a few days. I have high hopes!

I can't imagine having to always put on a stylish front for the internet. It's understandable that that stops being fun. Maybe it helps if you tell yourself that there's nothing wrong with being an outfit repeater? I hardly remember what I was wearing from one day to the next, so I would for sure not notice if you wore an outfit on instagram a few times per month :)

@@LizzyHadfieldI have very reactive skin and used to deal with cystic acne - be cautious with Tretinoin; it really exacerbated the issue and i had to go off. I recommend cerave foaming cleanser and moisturizer, and visiting a dermatologist. A really low dose of accutane and a SUPER basic routine was the only thing that resolved my adult acne!! Best of luck ❤❤❤❤
