just consider, each pieces fit, fabric, texture(some times two different fabrics have the same appearance of texture), color, and flow. Wear what you like bud
Drew, as an architectural engineering student, I have been able to study architecture design theory. An interesting connection that I see more and more just through experience and through discussion is that the same fundamental design principles that are taught in architecture design courses, are the same ones you talk about in your videos. Essentially, what I am saying is that you are speaking about fashion in a way that is digestible for conversation between anybody. I really appreciate your stuff.
I've been doing this by incorporating south asian jewelry into my fits! Western streetwear + really glamorous desi earrings and waist chains definitely made my outfits more interesting, but I wasn't able to pinpoint why until now :) Thanks for making this vid!!
@@usefulschool I'm really lucky to live in nyc so I tend to go to Jackson Heights to pick up jewelry, for online brands I recommend Tarinika, Kalki Fashion, or etsy! They have a great selection and the prices are similar to what you'd pay in person :)
@@usefulschool I'm lucky that I live in nyc so I'll pick up most of my jewelry from Jackson Heights! Some online desi brands I've been really into are Kalki Fashion, Tarinika, and Sokora Jewels! :)
Now imagine that feeling every time you go shopping 😍 That's the way it should be (with exceptions here and there): buying clothes in favour of us and our real wardrobe/lifestyle!
“Tension” is the perfect way to put it. I’ve recently been more intentional about getting into fashion (it’s always piqued my interest but I never put any actual effort) and I couldn’t find the right way to describe why I liked certain looks or outfits (even ones I started putting together). I’m still a beginner but I feel like this gives me a great place to start!
It finally makes sense why so many outfits feel like they aren't bad or ugly in any way, but are just really boring to me. I've never really been able to describe it, but it's that tension for sure!
I've, admittedly, only seen a couple of your videos. But this one seems like a real step up. Well thought out, and professionally polished. Nice job. I also enjoyed how you put into words what I try to do with my fits. Keep it up.
Just wanted to plug a newsletter I’ve been enjoying and I think you’d like the read too: it’s Tahirah Hairston’s substack newsletter Ridiculous Little Things. She interviewed David Marx (author of Ametora) in the latest issue. He talks about “tension” as “congruence” - it’s not about just throwing random things together, but understand the context (past, present, and future) of each piece and how they relate to each other. Anyway, that’s where I am on my personal style journey and really appreciate all your videos digging into fashion history!
I love how layering helps create new outfits out of pieces that we don't usually wear together and I think it also helps when you travel and have limited space for your luggage and still want to look stylish on your trip ❤ Please make a video about it Drew! There's very limited content about it out there! We'd love to hear your take on it ❤
Drew, could you do a video discussing the process of scoping out and buying new pieces for the wardrobe? I have a strong desire to fill my wardrobe with high quality pieces ranging from timeless to daring, but it's hard to actually find anything I like. Heck, I live in the heart of a midwestern city but even in this setting, there really isn't many options for finding good clothes. There are just dead malls and thrift stores that mostly carry recycled "mall brands" or Somebody's old high school spirit week tee shirts. Id imagine this describes the majority of your viewers, so putting out such a video could help a lot of people out. Best wishes.
A layering video is a must!! I'd really love to hear your take on layering through different seasons(hot/cold) and also on different body types. I love layering in my outfits but as a curvier woman sometimes it's hard to find pieces that don't make you look frumpy when layering with other things.
This is one of the major trends in fashion since at least 2 decades, if we mean for fashion what people really wear. Because as for what we see on catwalks things are much more varied. Two of the more contemporary fashion designers who have made contrasting one of their main design principles are Dries Van Noten and Prada. They use a lot things as mixing and matching different patterns, different types of fabric, the “pretty” and the sportswear, what is traditionally considered as “bad taste” mixed with what is “good taste”. Their main goal is never to be obvious and they are very successful in this! But other famous brands follow other trends. If you consider for example Armani, his creations are still very coherent with the traditional principles of uniformity (in colour etc.). In fact Armani has always appreciated to be considered a “classic”, a “modern” classic, so to speak. His innovations regard other fashion trends, above all shapes, structure, fluid comfortable fabrics, playing in a subtle manner with traditional gender fashion codes. The same can be said of other “traditional” brands such as Polo Ralph Lauren or even Chanel. Merci bien! A bientôt! ❤
I only found your channel a few days ago and youve quickly become one of my favorite creators. You present all of these topics in a much cleaner and much more informative manner than most others ive seen. Id love a video on layering, as well as how to style "busy" clothes
This video was SO good bro! I really love how simply you put things while also presenting really dope information. You have really encouraged me to take the time to invest in building my style to boost my confidence!
I've been into fashion for the majority of my life and never figured this part out. Thank you so much for touching on the topic. It all makes sense now. This is definitely challenging for me because I feel goofy trying to juxtapose but I love to see it done well on others. I just didn't know there was a word for it.
Great video man 👌🏾 I’ve been saving thrift shops and recently thought I should play with more of my own pieces rather than go out and search for more. This video came right on time.
This is an eye opener Sir Whatitdo. Two things: how would you apply this to something for a formal event, like a prom or fancy dinner. And, yes to that layering video!
Drew, we need a video about shorts. I have essentially gotten rid of every pair of shorts in my closet because I feel like a dweeb whenever I wear them. Need your positivity to convince me I can wear them again :)
Your videos are exciting. You give great advice, give good examples, and have a great philosophy about all of this. It's about playing, having fun, expressing ourselves. I'm wearing the homework you gave as I write this lol and I'm really pleased with the result! Really, I did that?! Woah. Levelling up my style with each video of yours that I watch! Thank you so much!
Felt so tense while watching this. Joking aside, this was super useful. Especially loved the sandwiching method, clothing elements, and people you featured!
I love your videos so much, you are a huge inspiration and I learn an incredible amount. I have developed a completely different view of fashion. THANKS
#pvv this spring became a crucial season for me in terms of my personal growth. I started working and finally felt what is a true liberty of decision. I am finally completely unchained in terms of what to do with my look, with my style and so on. It really feels as honourably earned. I started by giving away almost my entire wardrobe and changing a hairstyle. I really do feel like a completely different person now!
PVV, a small reck of clothes and some plants never fail :)) also the white wall on the left of the door can really use some decor like clock, signs, posters vynl's uhmm sum like that :)) Maby do a nother vynl each video or month?! :o a hook for hanging clothes could also work !! Just some ramblings! I would love it if you made a video about layering its been a very large issue for me i keep getting stuck in the "simple"male clothing :(
I wouldn’t change much about your set up but I would add 1 soft light to be a key light on you. It’ll make you stand out a little more against the background. Also maybe since we can now see your computer monitor throw up a photo of something that has to do with the video or is interesting to you (then maybe talk about in the pvv 😏) I found your channel about 2 weeks ago and really enjoy your content. Keep it up Brother!
I enjoyed your video..Often, even someone who can do it themselves, cannot explain how to improve the impact of an already nice outfit to "Hmmm interesting". It would be great If you could show some examples of simple changes that make the difference.
#pvv bad, I live in the southern hemisphere so fall has started. And the cloudy and cold days have begun, worst part is this is going to last up until September, all at the same temperature. Same suffering. And it doesn’t even snow here 😕
another outstanding video, drew. well done ! quick question: i know that loafers are back in style now. i'm a big sneaker fan and have an array of sneaks but i'm looking to add some variety to my shoe game. is it time to dust off my old sperry's, or are boat shoes not close enough to loafers to be "trendy" ??
I feel like it depends on your intent! Since the intent is to make the fit dressier, I think boat shoes would be perfect :) I've also seen another youtuber Laini Ozark mention that boat shoes might be trendy this spring
a layering video would be great! Especially taking colors into account and avoiding being too matchy with your overall fit.
Yes !
Second this, it's one of the most important things for a great outfit, haven't seen a lot of content about it
For sure! And getting creative with layering or for example layering in summer would be a nice touch!

definitely

💯 accessibility yet he brings an elegant and intellectual flair to his videos, he gets better and better

My colleague did the branding for Kulfi makeup and want to check them out too
Would love for you to discuss layering, especially as we're going into spring/summer fashion. Layering in the heat would be insightful
My thoughts exactly
I like the feeling of getting a new garment that unlocks other clothes that I bought but didn't think matched with previous wardrobe
That's really cool when that happens
Now imagine that feeling every time you go shopping 😍 That's the way it should be (with exceptions here and there): buying clothes in favour of us and our real wardrobe/lifestyle!
