Thank you for this. It’s always reassuring to hear that things will ease up down the line.
I am less than a year in as a reservist and it has been a lot of work. All the education for quals, gmt’s, learning the ins and outs of the CG, balancing a growing family and new job. It is a lot. Luckily my leaders and station are very helpful.
It is great to hear your perspective on this.

I'm glad it was helpful. Let me know if you have any questions. What rate are you going?

@@CGCareerCentral I’m a BM3 at small boat station. I came in with a lot of professional boating knowledge but the stuff I’ve been learning since I joined is significantly more in depth and useful in a practical sense.
My goal is to pick up orders for as many natural disasters and emergency response events as possible. What’s your input on things I should do or skills I should learn to make myself more marketable for when events arise?

Train in ICS and try to get in as many ICS-related exercises as you can. If you can get some ICS quals under your belt you'll definitely have priority for emergency response cases.

Your videos have been incredibly helpful. I am going in as a reservist. My request for a PSU has been approved. I was able lock in my ME A school 4 months after boot camp. I ship out for Depot in 2 months. I'm really excited. I'm looking to take a lot of active orders once I'm fully qualified.

    Love your videos man!
I’m 32(m) with a family and very close to enlisting in the reserves as ME. I live in S.Texas relatively close to the coast.
My biggest question is if I go reserves can I volunteer for ADOS and get an opportunity to go underway on a cutter? I would like to be as active as possible in the reserves.
Would really love to go AD, but wife and children are adamant about staying in Texas.
I’m prior oil field for years and am used to being away from home for extended periods of time. I want to go underway and being on a ship in a place I never been before does excite me… Is it possible to get to be able to do CG stuff?
I want to volunteer for duty as much as I can, I just want to go home to Texas when I’m done each trip. Ty for the help and the videos. Keep up the great work.

Yes you definitely can. I see solicitations for cutters all the time. It's just a matter of finding one that matches your qualifications. I'm not sure how difficult it is to actually get picked up for a cutter.

Considering going reserve enlisted thru depot. Not a lot of first hand accounts of that. Concerned about being a non rate for all the A school waits.

Thanks again for your videos they have been super informative about the general process and lifestyle!
33(m) with a PhD going to MEPs in a few weeks, if all goes well I'll be applying to the SRDC program, I've really had to dig for information about the SRDC and ROCI programs. I am looking for information about what the interview process entails, what the panel is looking for, what to expect upon arrival in at the USCGA, what is your time spent doing during your 5 weeks, etc. I'd love to hear more details about those specific programs if you have any additional information, as I have run into a mix of info. For example, I'm hearing that the PFT must be passed upon arrival first time (a little different from Cape May perhaps?) but cant find specifics of what the standards are (hearing everything from basic ship crew PFT, Age adjusted PFT, OCS PFT?). Thanks!

Also, what might be a competitive ASVAB?
