I think its fascinating how little you really have to do to keep a cat happy. Elevated places? A shelf by the couch to a cat tree or bookshelf. You can gradually work that out across your house if you've the mind to, but we all have to start somewhere. A decent litterbox with litter they are happy with, in a place easy to get to, and out of the way? We all have a back corner in the bedroom or most living rooms one can be tucked in gently that's out the way, but easy to reach. Entertainment? Easy. Ways to perch in the window, maybe a bird feeder or two. Let them watch you do things, let them examine them. . .some play and you're pretty much set.
Obviously age, energy levels and health have to be brought into the equation. . .but it doesn't take much. . .and they show their appreciation in so many ways. My boys haven't even bothered my Christmas Village pieces from my grandmother beyond a sniff and attempted nibble. . .none of the smaller pieces have been found on the floor. . .they occasionally jump up by it, but don't actively seek to destroy it. . .not really trying to 'destroy' the Christmas tree either. ..they just like playing rough around it. . .and trying to bound at each over the lower branches. I think next year I'm hanging toys on the lower branches for them to mess with since neither is climbing the thing.

We screened in our back porch for our cat. Then with bird houses, bird feeders and a bird bath in the yard, it is very entertaining for him, watching birds and squirrels. Inside J like to get creative with card board boxes. I make cat houses, by cutting out a door and windows. He likes to hide and swat at us as we walk by. Dallas is a great cat.

My girl cat Salem enjoys a very catified house, I have all of your tips employed here. I'm considering building a screened in catio area in my back yard next Spring for her to spend some time outside. She loves watching birds!

Don't shine laser pointers into anyone's eyes including your pets. It can cause eye damage.

Better yet, don't use them at all for cat play time.
It might look like fun for the one doing it but, for the cat, it's just a source of frustration as there is no "kill" available.
Best to interactively use a cat toy they can catch, re-catch, and catch again. 😺

I have a question that maybe you could cover in a future video: What is the best way to help your cat(s) feel safe in an apartment or apartment-like situation, where there are often lots of unexpected, potentially loud, noises from unidentifiable sources and/or recover a sense of safety after moving out of that sort of environment? My cats grew up in a house, where things were relatively quiet and any loud noises could be traced to a source for the most part. After moving into a noisy apartment complex for a couple of years, they became rather fearful. This jumpiness has lingered even after I moved back into a home in a quiet neighborhood. I would love to put their anxieties at ease!

Loud bangs, you can do nothing against it.
No essential oils nor perfumes, no petting, no preperation, no desensitization will help or prepare against loud bangs.
But hey, at least we have no clue what so ever why we ignite bombs at new years eve.
Other noise like traffic, chatter, radiators etc. are a different thing.
Though noise pollution is a real thing and will harm every creature (including us) over years, it is not immediate.
Think about it this way. The more you think and focus on the noise the more you notice it. The more you notice it, the more worked up you get. And thus the more stressed you get.
Maybe I'm going out on a limb here when I suggest you figure out a way to deal with the noise for your own self.
To a cat you are almost like god. You make food and fun appear out of nowhere. You are the master of all things around. You even push the cats mind towards places unreachable by them self though clicker training. But when you feel sad, when you cry, when you are in pain, your cat knows. Your cat "feels" you.
You may feel like your cat needs something that you can not provide. That is stress you are feeling right there.
Believe it or not you sweat two different ways. Sport sweat and stress sweat. The two are distinct. Stress sweat stinks, no reeks! (From dancing salsa I swear you can tell who did not shower between office and party. It's nasty!)
Cats smell stress. We know lions and tigers do. And so can cats.
Bottom line and TL;DR: When you feel stress because of noise, your cats will notice a pattern within you and will react accordingly.
Fight your stress, become the rock in your cats life and your cat will orient their chill by your stoic aura.
Oh and don't waste money on essential perfums and oils.
Use common sense. If cats were automatically chill in the presense of fragrances they'd be instant dinner to all predators just because they were in the vicinity of some flowers at the local creek at spring time.
And on top, the fragrences are often so pungent that the human nose will notice it. To cats a tiny fraction would be enough because cats smell senses are 16 times more powerful than the best human noses. But we wouldn't buy the stuff if we'd have a hard time noticing the difference in the air, right?

This multiple litter box never worked for us, I generally only have 1 cat at a time but every single one learned from me that the kitchen is the eating place, the bedroom is the sleeping place and the bathroom is the potty place. And because I never do my business in the living room, nor do they. Sure if I move the single one litter box they will find it, but every time we had multiple litter boxes they just stuck to the one in the bathroom.Monkey see monkey does, well, human does cat does in this case. 😸

I have two, just a few feet from each other. I think it's to provide an option if one doesn't suit their needs---maybe they left a turd uncovered or it just has a bad smell. Kitty tends to use one most of the time, but fairly regularly uses the other---I take that to mean she likes the option.

My cat is a stray that has been outdoors for most of his life. The vet said he’s 5. He got diagnosed with megacolon so we have to keep him indoors from now on. He is uninterested in the cat stuff we get him and keeps meowing to go outside for 24 days now.. i feel so bad he lost his freedom but i will give him a long healthy life. I am hoping he will give in and start liking the cat trees, toys, and all i got him. So glad he already knows how to use the litter. I think i’m gonna have to train him to be on a leash so he can still explore monitored by me. He’s so sweet ans purrs at scratches and food everytime but hasnt given up crying at the doors and windows for the outdoors.

I use two litter boxes for 2 cats one in my bedroom and one in my hallway even when I had 3 and 4 cats, it was okay, it is cheaper for me to maintain my tidy cat unscented at 40.00 dollars. It cost me almost one container to fill 2 boxes. I can’t afford so many boxes to fill up. As far as in the kitchen and bathroom that’s not appropriate for me. They get can food Nulo which makes them go less.

If your cats are fine with it, that's awesome. But if your cats insisted on peeing in the living room I'm sure you'd rather have it in the litter box than on the carpet.

I have a small condo and two cats, so litter boxes in multiple rooms just isn’t feasible. I do have a couple closets and I turned one of them into a nice “cat bathroom” complete with motion sensor lights, waterproof liner, litter catching may, and cute door stoppers to keep them from getting locked in lol

Do you mimic pray with the laser dot?
Have it creep around corners and underneath doors?
Do you crank up the cat-play-motor before pulling out the laser pointer?
Have you tried clicker train and by that reward any interest for the laser dot?
The laser dot is comparable to a sheet of paper and a pencil to humans.
To some humans you can just give them the two and they'll entertain them self.
To others they'd ask you what they're supposed to do with it.
But once the latter have learned how to work the paper and pencil they too have worlds of fun with it.

I bought a large clear storage bin (I have a large cat) which I cut an opening in one end. I smoothed over the edges and filled it with her litter. I don't use the top of the bin. It works well and the litter mostly stays in the box now. Total cost, about $12.
