I rearranged my whole apartment for my cats! There’s cat beds everywhere! Cat houses & litter boxes in their favorite places. Just ordered a huge cat tree. They are definitely tree dwellers. All kinds of things for the kitties in my home. I work at a shelter, and I work with cats & dogs. I absolutely love cleaning and decorating and rearranging the cat rooms at my job. So my apartment looks like a big cat room.

My cats all love cabinets. So instead of fighting with them, I let them have all of the top ones(I'm short so can't reach anyways). I put beds in some, food and water dishes in others. One is right by a window so I added a cat tower right next to it to extend it and make a cat tv. Unfortunately, I can't risk a catio. I live in bear and cougar country and they can get into catios and have done so.

Good solution. My guy only goes outside when we can watch him in the fenced yard. So I'll also leave closets and cupboards slightly open for him. He loves to use those as his "caves" and places where he looks for prey. Also he keeps cool in them when it gets hot in summertime.

@@starrix4712 Their claws, teeth, and massive weight are much bigger than a dog's or raccoons. They have gotten into catios and chicken coops around here. I have a lot of windows, so I put shelves on them to make up for it. I may consider a small window one I can shut at some point.

We have 3 litter boxes, 3 cat trees, 3 water fountains, birdfeeders and a catio on the patio of my apt. It has a detachable zippered tunnel which I put out on the small, upstairs balcony. My baby boy mostly likes the floor. He will occasionally get on his table and look out the window, but normally the floor is where he likes to sleep or the bottom shelf in my bathroom.
Recently I figured out why he wont let me sleep at night. He would start crying ad soon as I'd shut off my lights to go to bed. I used to have to let him out just to get some sleep because of the up in my face meowing, but 2days ago, I realized that when I turn the lights off it's completely dark; however it's not dark out side there are street lights. So I thought to put night lights in for him, so that when I shut the lights off to go to sleep, he will still be able to see around the house.
It worked...hes now comfortable enough to stay in all night long.

I put a small bowl of water on the shelf between his jump-up spot and where I set my glass and TA-DA! He hasn't bothered my drink since, because he gets to his 'up high' bowl first! Franziska Weiße YES! I was saying the same thing to my husband!!! ANY cat is going to not only return your love, they’ll give it back to you 50 fold. They are SUPER clear communicators! Listen to them ♥️🤗😻

Laura Hanks, Aw, Hon! I’m so sorry. Its very sad to lose Anyone. Including and especially a beloved Fur baby! I’d like to offer my condolences to you for the Loss of your boy kitty. I know it must’ve been extremely difficult for you to watch him leave. I’ve been through that a number of times through the decades. It hurts like hell. Even now, when I remember any of my fur babies, my heart breaks Every time, all over again. My 18 year old Cat, Benny will probably be “telling” me (IDK sooner, than later?) that its his time to go, too. I’m seriously not looking forward to that conversation. And, his Vet will know ASA I can call, make an appointment for my Bennyman. Second opinion, yes?
Once again, I’m saddened by your recent Loss, Laura. Be good to yourself, let yourself grieve as you must. And, take a little time with your memories together with your kitty, before you make a decision about adopting another baby for your Family. Just a few bits out of my own experiences.
DO THIS: Remember. Cry. And Heal. TC...

My cat Abbey the red tabby was scared of her shadow. When she wasn't eating or using the litter box, she was hiding under the dining room table. I think she felt safe in the "forest of chair & table legs. One thing that she did was so out of character, she made me laugh. We had a large sliding glass door on the south side of our house, so even in the winter, it was like a warm tropical greenhouse in there.Because it was a great source of light, any flying insect that was trying to get out, ended up at that window. Abbey, who was typically frightened of her shadow, went into " Predator Mode," when she heard and saw that fly buzzing around. She would bat at it with her paw, until she knocked it to the ground. I never saw her so proud of herself as when she was chewing that little guy up. Now that's Cat Mojo!

Some day we'll afford them! ;) In the meantime, she's content just getting where she wants to go. Does that help?

I know I've gotten a floor to ceiling cat tree that was pretty cheap. The top was a spring so it didnt bolt to anything. Used it in several apartments. Only issue is over a couple years the constant running up and down lessened the spring so eventually it didnr work anymore. Still used portions of it as scratching posts later though. Also can use book shelves, they have window suction shelves/beds, cat trees, you dont have to bolt to the wall at all.

I love those "Wallstairs", meaning shelves on the walls for the Purrpeople to climb and lay on. Unfortunately I can't do that in my place. It's just rented and I can't drill that many holes into the walls here. Plus on top of it: The walls are very soft and if those 2 Purrenginges I have, go at each other, they could fall together with the shelf they're on 😱. So, two 8'-cattrees, 3 single scratching-posts in 3 different rooms, several sleeping-spots with bedding, one window-catservatory and a giant, soft catbed in the human bedroom have to be enough for the Purrpeople who adopted me 😊 P.S. About the litter-boxes: Ever since my Purrpeople (2 of them) moved in, they're used to using one, hooded litterbox. And it's in the bathroom, across from the human pottie. It's been working fine for 8 1/2 yrs now and occasionally I get a...ummmm...undergarment heater or a High 5 after a successful "dropping". Considdering I clean their box every day, accidents outside of the box happened only ONCE, because stupid hooman-me bought a cheap knock-off-wannabe-litter instead of the premium, biodegradable litter the Lord and Lady were used to. Well, I learned my lesson

I only see him on the floor when he's laying down, splooting, sitting, kinda think about it I haven’t ever seen him sleep on the floor besides his bed right next to my bed and drawer on the floor 3:00 at that point you might as well potty train them outside

Once she started branching out, we moved the litter box to the bathroom right next to the toilet where she has a habit of making full eye contact while pooping 😂 She has a favorite scent soaker and two different places to watch birds. I have two cats....a two-year-old mom and her six month old male kitten. My cats follow me around and will be either on the cat tree, window, sofa, bed, or floor close to me.
I have two big scratching posts and 4 little scratching pads around my apartment. I also have a cat lounge that they love to hang out in. And blankets placed here and there that they love to curl up on.
    Love this video btw!

My cats LOVE their catio. They sit on the ledges and watch the birds and squirrels. They sniff the breezes, lay in the sunny spots, hunt little bugs and lizards that get in. They also love walking on top of our cabinets, shelves, and hanging out on the fridge. Vertical space is often times so under utilized! But kitties love to feel like they can see you, but you can’t see/get to them

My cat likes being on the floor and pouncing from crinkle paper or hidey holes, definitely a bush dweller. Lots of your videos and book focuses on building things higher up but mine is happiest at ground level. I try to make it different and stimulating but would love a video on how to keep bush dweller / ground floor loving cats happiest?

We just moved into this apt in April. It's now June and we adopted our fur baby a week ago. Eventually, my husband is going to enclose our existing patio/balconey and put a door in so we can still exit thru the back. We also have one commercial cat tree. It's on my to do list to make more cat trees.

My cat loves watching bird videos on the computer, and loves high perches with window views- she races to the next to keep watch a neighbor cat walking by... But something you didn't mention- as a carpenter I've noticed how every Western Red Cedar or Redwood fence has worn spots on projecting corners right at cat marking height. They love that soft wood. If you know a carpenter/handyman sort of person, any project- be it repair or new construction- will yield cutoff pieces that can be attached to a door jamb or projecting corner, and your cat will favor that old gray fence wood above all else. (I Don't Recommend treated wood! but that's not hard to recognize) A two-foot long board and two small screws and it's fun for years. If a slight encouragement is needed, rub a bit of catnip on it at the height of her nose when she's on her hind legs. A scratching frenzy results, a great reward or distraction, and it doesn't get in the way like a post does.

I am so thankful I've done all this. We have high kitty trees , a scratcher in every room. Cat perch in the window. Little box is in the dining room area (my office) and my husband will take them out on the back patio occasionally and keeps a close eye. They don't jump or go off. He just big hunts and rolls in the dirt and sun (which I hated at first because I was scared fir their safety. But we are also looking into walking him because he loves being outside )

I wish that someday I could do all 4 of that for my cats. We are currently living in a 25.6' motorhome right now. They seem to love the big box and sitting on the dash when we're parked, but someday maybe a place where I can have space outside as well as inside would be nice.

We have the privilege of living on a smallholding so our cats grew up being outdoor-indoor cats. Roads, dogs etc are far enough away to not pose a danger to them . Now that they are older gentleman we have an area fenced off for them ( cat-proof fencing ). The cats love it, especially if I spend time outside with them.
We've moved around a bit, for a while, during which they had to become house cats. Now that we are back I have had to help them to enjoy being outside again. They have come to love their outside time! It was such fun to watch my one cat, who became really stressed with all the moving, run around like the fun little kitten he once was. He's almost 16yrs old.

My cat is a "bush dweller," but mainly because she has arthritis in her spin, so she has trouble jumping up onto things or climbing, things she used to do earlier in her life. But I have created steps for some things she likes to get up on, to make it easier for her. And she is mainly outdoors (no I don't like that either, but my living situation makes it necessary), so she gets fresh air, sun, and has 3D cat tv, plus my entire yard is her cat box. 😺

I don't know where I can ask this question but.
I'm currently in Mexico and making preperations to move to Canada in mid November and plan to take a cat With me. She will be going from tropical paradise to winter Wonderland in the course of a 24 hour period. We all know cats hate change, and this is a massive one. My current plans are to keep her in my bedroom for a few days and then let her explore the rest of the house. I want to make her more or less, fully an indoor cat, because the snows will have either just started, or will be started by the time we get there, and she would have an inappropriate coat for that kind of weather. (So, she probably wouldn't like it outside, anyway)
She is currently indoor-outdoor, I've never seen her use a litter box but usually that's ok. However, a couple times I've caught he peeing inside. Once a year ago on the towels, once a couple months ago on the printer, and once just now on my clothes while I was present.
I figure she isn't happy with the litterbox, which is something that will be better adjusted with the move. (I have a better one waiting for us in Canada)
However, I'm worried that she won't use the new litterbox, either. While at the hotel she might pee on me because nothing smells right, and that once we are at the house we will be living with (where my bedroom does, actually, smell like me) she will chose the carpeted floors, my clothes, and anything but the litterbox. I have a feliway collar and spray but I am concerned that it won't be enough. If I can't prevent the peeing in the house, I will probably be faced with the ultimatum from my grandmother and my mother that I will need to get rid of this cat who is very much bonded to me, in a country where everything is different for her.
I can't match the food, I can't match the litter, I can't match the sights, sounds, smells... she is even going from a multicat home to being an only cat and I can't do anything about any of these changes.
i love this cat and she loves me but I'm worried that I might be boxed in a corner.

Question for Jackson or the community!!!
I have 7 cats living with us. Two of them spend most of their time outside in the catio, because when they *do* come inside, they both pee on walls and curtains.
I 100% think this is because they feel unwelcome being around the others due to the fact that they are outside most of the time and don’t really have a place thats “theirs” inside, if that makes sense?
I’m trying to work with them and hopefully have them both feel more confident and comfortable in the home so they wont feel the need to mark anymore (but my family is against me bringing cat trees and cat beds inside the house, not to mention putting up cat shelves! so it’s kinda hard to work with them as effectively as I could be if they had higher safe spaces..)
I’m determined to help them though!! so far I’ve tried mixing the cats placements everyday (some go outside and some (including the two) come inside for the day), which has shown a little bit of progress, I’ve also tried having them all in together while keeping their attention on me through a string feather toy, which help a little too as well.
Anyone know anything else I could try??? I’m on board with any tips at this point

My cats LOVE watching TV and the iPad. They watch nature videos, Cat Games (channel), and cartoons, like Simon's Cat, and Lex and Cinnabon videos. I have made UA-cam Playlists for them, put it on constant replay, and let it play all day, all night. I have three cats. They all love to watch different things at different times from different places. I have windows and window seats throughout my condo, but they still love the TV and iPad, too. I guess they like variety.

Thank you Jackson for acknowledging that alot of us don't have the area or money, permission, etc., to build a catio. I would LOVE too have one for my cats, but I can't. I go to bed at night feeling like I'm a bad, bad , bad cat mommy cause I don't have one.... I love my furbabies and have every toy you can imagine.. I have 2 cat trees only heavy, glass ( non pourous) food dishes, interactive paying every day, sooped out litter boxes cleaned out wit only hot water, and only moderate noise in my apt. Nothing too loud. When I have guests(ingrequentlg) they know my cat rules and if they don 't abide they cute don't visit again. However, the catio thing makes me feel lacking as a cat mom. Am I doing ok?

thank you for sharing this. i know you have likely said all these things a million times and i had heard of you before from that animal planet show, but only saw it randomly because i don't have that channel sadly. but i am going to try a few of these ideas this weekend. i feel so bad that i am just now learning it after having had my cats for years, but hopefully they will find some benefit anyway and it isn't too late. biggest thing is i'm going to block off the unders and other places i can't get to where they tend to fight. i am not sure how to deal with their food situation yet (one has a spot only she can get to to free feed cause she eats slow and the other has a different spot and he eats all at once) because i think that also contributes to their fighting when he is hungry and he knows she gets to eat whenever. but i will check out more of your videos and see if there is something i can do about that. and hopefully these fast changes will help them feel more confident and secure in their relationship to the space, each other, and me :) thanks so much!

I have a 4 month old kitten. His confident where is all over the place. Lol
I wish I could put shelves and steps up for Murphy but it's against my rent agreement. So he has a couple of scratching posts, three cat trees so he can get up high. Cat hammocks in both the living room and bedroom windows. And his favorite cushion is tucked under a chair with a blanket draped over it. Plus a whole basket of toys for him to play with if I'm not home.
Part of me says that I've done what I can with the limits I have but part of me worries that I'm missing something and Murphy is going to grow up unhappy.

My timid guy, Tibbles, one of his favorite things is having a sarong or some thin blanky kind of thing hanging over the arm of a couch, or over a chair, or a cat tree, that he can hide behind and PLAY behind, pounce on my other two cats, and so on. So I'm ordering some more "togas" for him lol. And getting inspired for more shelving. I tried the plastic fish but man those things bumping into the plastic is annoying and the cats don't watch it much. Maybe I'll try the bird feeder. We have 10inch wide extra boards on top of the window ledges so they can be in any window.
