The guy said Nirvana wrong on purpose, like he was unfamiliar with a new band. It's like the old Ed Sullivan show. Kids screaming for them like they did for the Beatles.
i like how in bloom takes me right into spring time, in a science class, in a funk. its the best blend of lyrics and metaphors. and even eye openers and thought provoking lines like selling kids for food. That kind of epiphany that everything is eating kids makes this macabre, but its sitting right next to a freudian behavior analysis of acting funny in order to be a successful pollinator.. you know.. things becoming in bloom.
Loved your reaction & your right a lot of these grunge singers had a way of making you feel so much emotion through their voice and music ...come as you are ,Lithium & Heart Shaped Box are some of my favorites RIP Curt
You should give the song “through the pines” a listen by them as well. You want to talk about haunting? Whenever I hear Kirk’s gasp at the end of the song I can’t help but feel something even after all these years.
"Grunge" was a music for people that didn't have shit, singing about how they didn't have shit... 99% of the people on the planet don't have shit. We can relate to the emotion of that more than some 19 year old girl talking about her diamond rings and her cool ass car. Its all about integrity and honesty. THAT is what music is supposed to be!
This song is about people who listen to their music because it's cool, not because they understand their satire or music, hence why it's so sing-songy and the Ed Sullivan vibe that then devolves into what grunge really is/looks like.
Those fans are from old footage from the Ed Sullivan Show (I believe) but they were superimposed into the video. The entire thing is a parody. Kurt, Chris, and Dave were all dressed up for the video in clothing from the 1950-1960’s when the producers only had a slight idea of what was “stylish.” This video was great in emphasizing the incredible difference between the 1960’s and only thirty years later. This is not a real concert.
Check out The Prodigy. You wont regret. Breathe, Firestarter, Smack My Bitch Up, Voodoo People, Their Law live in Amsterdan, Get Up Get off feat Twista, Diesel Power feat Kool Keith. And Prodigy remix for Release Yo Delf by Method Man.
I mean it might have been the Beetles but it felt like they were going for a Ed Sullivan Show parody. I really do think this is a top tier song from them. I think the lyrics are pretty interesting to discuss because it sounds like he's talking about someone who follows trends but don't know the background.
The music video to this song was made to make fun of other bands, it’s supposed to be kinda funny bc most of the lyrics are kinda dark but fans just think it sounds upbeat and fun so the visuals here don’t really match
I feel like there's a bit of satire in the video too, like Nirvana are a grunge band with lyrics about depression and the failure of the society the boomers built, a distaste for commercialism etc. Get the impression from the song that they really hated dumb fanboys and consumer culture. So showing themselves as these neatly dressed 60s pop stars with women screaming at them is ironic.
Don't always say this, but this is an instance where I wish you listened to the actual audio instead of the video version. Either way, great song and good times!
Kurt was way above Grunge ...he was way beyond..they all hated that term...Kurts favorite group was the Pixies ...listen to them ..listen to U MASS AND Caribou...from the Pixies
nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn ?jerod taylor
They are definitely paying homage to the Beatles, they're all big fans.
Kurt was a massive Beatles fan. They all were.
The guy said Nirvana wrong on purpose, like he was unfamiliar with a new band. It's like the old Ed Sullivan show. Kids screaming for them like they did for the Beatles.

Satire at its most beautiful
Just want to put it out there the opening line
"Sell the kids for food"
This album inspired so many rock bands for sure please react to Lithium on this album!
Kurts favorite band was the Beatles. His favorite Beatles was John. There’s a recording of him singing a Paul song from their first movie. It’s great.

It was supposed to be like the Beatles. Shit wasnt black n white in the 90s. kinda funny seeing kurt all buttoned up in suit with combed hair tho lol
Loved your reaction! Spot on :) More Nirvana please!
“Breed” is a banger
Dude, you nailed it when you talked about what makes grunge great. That shit needs way more appreciation than it's had over the years
This song is about people who listen to their music because it's cool, not because they understand their satire or music, hence why it's so sing-songy and the Ed Sullivan vibe that then devolves into what grunge really is/looks like.
We miss you kurt 😭
