I bought the chu since I think it's the cheapest way to get all sizes of the spring tips. Headphones are just a bonus.
Those were my exact thoughts from the beginning. You are essentially buying the accessories (the Springtips and the bag), and Moondrop is adding a well-tuned iem at no extra cost. Well worth the 20 USD.
@@alejandroelcid That bag isn't the best, couldn't even keep the Chu in it
Do the tips fit most other iems? I have the ikko oh10s and looking to buy some new eartipd
@@zwaki they're silicone, so they'll stretch it fit most tips would be my guess. I had a pair of oh10 and I'd be surprised if they didn't fit. My favorite tip on the oh10 was the spiral dot for what that's worth.
@@fuad000100 its tough to do, but if you get a good wrap going, they will fit very snug
Bought these IEMs last month after my Soundmagic e11c stopped functioning, and my goodness, the chu is just so good for the price. There’s no iem as good as the Chu @ $20. A legitimate upgrade after the Chu would be the Moondrop Aria (which the benefit would be a better sound stage).
For me, the Chu is well detailed and sort of balanced with a good soundstage. It is also well tuned for sure.
Is the Chu better than the e11?
Yeah I wanna know this, the e11c is a great little iem
@@Juan-sq9hb Yeah, definitely. First thing you'd notice with the Chu is that it has a better separation of instruments compared to the e11c. Also, the Chu is a lot more detailed, but the soundstage of the Chu and the e11c is somewhat the same.
Without support of dac or with ?
@@GoPaL-_-W.6.7.F well, I use it with my iPhone and the lightening to 3.5mm adapter (so technically an external jack😂). But you really don’t need an external DAC for this earphone
I used this for Transcription and Proofreading. I definitely wouldn't have passed the exams for the job if it wasn't for this. Really amazing how much detail it can pick up even from salvaged audio files.
what lmaooo
I use this for gaming in Warzone. The details, imaging and soundstage is great for its price. I can definitely pinpoint where the enemies are considering Warzone's audio engine is shitty. Might even be better than some headphones/gaming headset.
not 'might', it certainly is better than the vast majority of gaming headsets
Everything is better than any gaming headset
I’d rather use EarPods than “gaming headsets”
Not really that much of a compliment as even AirPods are unironically better than "gaming" headsets
@@fishstick1900 😅 I’m talking about the freebies that you get with an iPhone. Yes, I’d take those any day over a “gaming headset”.
Agree with the tip rolling, the spring tips don't seal my ears quite enough, i swapped then with some cheap wide bore silicone tips and the bass went up in volume a couple db.
I really like the Final E tips on them, too. Worth checking out if you want them a little warmer.
This would increase the cost of the Chu, but if you buy a Tanchjim Tanya (about $25) and you insert a pair of the black filters they come with, you can actually reduce a lot of the Chu’s lower treble peakiness.
Bought Chu for spring tips… I actually dislike the tuning (personally), guitars are real metallic… detail was good though for the price.
I've had the chus for about 2 months now and they've been great until just this morning when the left one stopped working. Actually using the quarks with spring tips rn funnily enough.
I had a similar issue except that it was my right ear that just got really quiet. Had to go into windows and play with the balancing to fix the issue, but it may get worse or finally poop out on me and sadly be down to 1
I have been searching the comments to see if it was just me or a more common issue. Mine were a bit more strange first left, then the right and the left came back, then they both died. Now the left is back to sounding super low and right is weird.
Got to say that the Chu is quite amazing at details, the smaller, the better. Overall metallic tint is quite apparent but man, for 20 bucks/eur, there's absolutely nothing to complain about! + The build quality is absolutely off the charts. Only gripe would be the non-upgradeable cable. Crazy IEM!
I ordered the chu yesterday, it will be delivered tomorrow, I never expected you to release a video about it after I ordered
I bought these for my 11yo kid, and the small tips fit her kid ears perfectly.
Stupid question but what kind of music do 11yo listen to nowadays?

I think the Chu are great full stop, easily as good as other things I own, I find the Ikko OHIO fatiguing after about 40mins they just rub me the wrong way. I can listen to the Chu much longer. They are the first IEM where most of the music is outside of my head. That and the weird psychoacoustic stuff they do if you're seated on a couch as opposed to walking hard. You can hear stuff moving up and down and around your head. This is with Ikko iPlanet large foam tips as I have huge ear canals. The have fast tight bass and you can easily tell the difference between drum and bass what they lack is bass slam, but I can put up with that, I carry the Urbanfun YBF if I want slam. If $20 is a lot then 2x $10 may be a better idea. But for anyone else the Chu are a steal IMO
Hi Joshua, what player are you using, besides the Sony?
What would be a better pick among the Chu and the Blon BL-03 in terms of overall audio quality ?
@@beegest_yoshi Okk, Thanks for the info :-)
Hello. Could you do something like the Moondrop Chu II, representing the current time's value options, versus something like the Sennheiser IE 800? Thanks!
I really love my Chu and they've been my daily driver at work since I got them in April, but unfortunately the volume in my left ear piece started dropping hard over the last week. Removing the dampeners like their support told me seems to have fixed the volume but obviously it kinda ruined the FR, so now I'm interested to see if they will ship any replacements
they will, i received my replacements recently
They sent out a replacement very quickly and it's already on a plane to Europe atm so I'm super happy with the support experience
@@dogerinoo can u guys tell me if the replacements are doing fine after some time? mine has the same issue after 3 weeks+ of use. thanks in advance!
@@Waltzon. mine has a new issue ahahaha where the audio just gets very soft and static-cy until i adjust the cables and replug the jack multiple times 😢
@@dogerinoo ah damn, so even the replacements get broken fast too. well at least we got cheap spring tips i guess lmao
Love Moondrop but until they fix the channel imbalance issues due to their filters I can’t recommend them to people, under $30 I’d still recommend the Blon Bl-03 or Tanchjim Tanya
as much as i love my chu i started having issues with them only after 2 weeks and unfortunately i recommended them to a friend while mine still worked and after my friend recieved their pair they experianced the same exact problem, one side was a lot quiter than the other
yup, mine one got this problem like one day...
Same here, it’s an issue with the filter, try taking the filter/dampener out (the metal grate and the white thing under it) and see if that fixes it. It will alter the quality but at least it’ll fix the volume imbalance
I had this issue with quarks
Exactly, mine got this problem too. Luckily got my replacement within a week from local distributor.
@@NisxmErsyad lmk how long the replacement lasts or if you encounter the same issue again. Its sad that such a small thing makes these unusable. I ordered a set of replacement moondrop filters to hopefully try and fix mine 🤞
Which is the best pleasant soothing sound experience in earphones 🎧 Moondrop Chu ya 7hz shalnotes zero ?
Very intriguing review. You were clear about its value in the 20 dollar range... I'm assuming it doesn't compare, sound wise, to iems of a higher price -- correct?
It's going to come down to preference IMO, with a proper seal the Chu's are amazing. For $20 they are astounding.
There's a *ton* of much more expensive IEMs that are much worse than this.
Love the Chus. I tried the Aria Snow and wasn't a fan. Now I need something like a Chu that comes without fixed wiring. Any recommendations would be highly appreciated.
Well well well
I recently got these. I hope they last, the sound is good and I found it pretty easy to up tier them with some EQ.
I agree, the highs are a bit much. I actually found the base out of the box to be slightly exaggerated, so slight nerf to low, slight buff to low-mid, moderate nerf to all the high range, including high-mid adjustment in between.
Are they still working?I am worried about the qc issues especially the clogged filter.
@@sanathpoojary4497 mine are still working like new. I'm not taking special care of them, but I wouldn't call it rough either.
If you get these, I recommend avoiding the ones with a mic. From that side, mine (whit mic) have one cable shorter and are on the heavy side (it is a chunky metal-like bar)
@@ziokalco That probably won't be a problem bcoz I'm currently using a soundmagic e10c which has a similar mic.
Thanks for the wonderful review. At 5:08, what is the thick black wire or tube you wrapped around the cable close to the IEM itself? Where can I buy them pleases?
They are ear guides for the cables and are included with the Chu.
@@2134yanto I see. Thank you Ian. I wish I could buy them for my other cables.
They don't do anything good IMO, just using the wires on their own is much more comfortable and nice to use
Thanks so much for the video. Very helpful. Hey, any comparison to the heralded 1more triple driver? Seems like the Chu is likely to be a bit better. Thoughts anyone?
Amazing for $20, but I found it a bit shouty during the his
Joshua, Can u review the Xduoo link 2 bal dac? And do a comparison between this n moonriver 2 dac. Thanks 👍
The only thing i hate is the comfort of these things. Trying to wear them with the cable wrapped around my ear just didnt work. The cable kept falling out of place even with the slightest movements. Comfort is gonna vary from person to person, but i hated the way these felt. They do sound good for the price tho.
What are the best eartips for Chu ?
Can I mention YOUR low end audio? No other UA-camr voiceover makes my speakers rumble this much. Ease up on the bass, bro.
Hey im kinda a newbie to iems and audiophile stuff. Do you think this is worth getting over something like the KZ CRN? Im interested in the value of the chu's and the tuning in the CRN because they don't cost too much and sound unique.
i would go for the kz x crinical . its pretty good . if u want to try non iem but still in budget range u can try Koss KSC 75 .
Yeah the Chu's are an amazing pair of IEMs especially for their price. Sadly enough like most IEMs i've tried they just make my ears hurt and create pressure inside my ears which results in a rather uncomfortable experience... I think IEMs are just not for me and my ear shape - i ordered myself a pair of second hand HD600 maybe these will be a good way to get into the audiophile world since IEMs simply weren't it.
Have same problem now, but didn't when I was younger. Some say its all in eartips, anothers say its skull change issue. Headphones tho mess up my hair at the top, which is annoying at times. Best thing would be making custom iem or reshell of ones you like, so you dont have to use eartips.
Had the same problem for about 2 weeks after I got my Chu but after getting used to it the comfort is great, thanks to the small size
@@imonutiy I've tried different IEMs, different ear tips, different ways to put them in... Sadly nothing worked. As of right now i think im gonna wait for my HD600 to see whether or not open backs help with my ears heating up since that was the main reason that made me switch from closed backs to exploring IEMs. I've heard great things about HD600 but I'll definitely look into getting some CIEMs in the distant future if i ever decide to spend some more on a more premium option.
If IEMs are to uncomfortable I'd recommend the Koss KSC75. The do look kinda ridiculous but trust me they are pretty cheap (I got them for 20€) and you feel like you're wearing nothing all while sounding almost incredible. (Honestly I used them the first when playing my electronic Piano I thought i forgot to plug them in its almost ridiculous).
But feel free to look them up I by no means would consider myself an Audio expert.
I think that's the thing. They make a mighty fine IEM to test whether you want to buy something upscale or to have an emergency pair for whatever reason, but 20$ is 20$. I imagine the quality of these headphones for longevity will be pretty subpar or some other issue. Given that I've already got IEM, I have no real interest in the Chu.
Could you test and rank Timeless/Raptgo Hook and Moondrop Kato?
what happened with your right arm?? looks bad
whew... my chu still on the way and josh finally review it 😆
man you put that rubber over the ear thing wrong 😭😭😭
It actually disturbed me for a second then I realized that it's because he did it wrong.
Got both the chu and the quarks at the same time, still use the quarks ...
Why?
chus or blon 03, or tin t2? which has better sound quality?
chus are better all rounder
blon 03 if u are used to non neutral earbuds and want a smooth switch before going to neutral
I have all of them and I'd use the blon 03 over the other ones, it has decent bass. Sound quality isn't great on any of them really, maybe the tin t2 is slightly better than the others but not much sub bass. If you learn to use parametric EQ, the sound of any cheap earphones could increase by the equivalent of hundreds of dollars in my experience.
My blon 03 with parametric EQ can sound about as good as my LCD-2C.
@@giladkingsley thank you
Yep it was worth it
Can you use this as a regular fit earbud? not the one where it goes over your ear.
I bought two. Lol. Took one apart to examine the DD and kept the second one.
Are they still working?I am worried about the qc issues especially the clogged filter.
Did anybody else buy them and they stopped working after a month? I need to know if it’s a common enough issue or if that was just me.
I bought then and they stopped working after 2 weeks. The left side got very quiet so I just returned them
After hearing good headphones and decent IEMs these just remind me to save up and buy used.
yuck
@@mememanfresh Yeah, my Final D8K Pro are the opposite of yuck.
I have use the chu for about 1 month and the channel become imbalance suddenly, after using about 2 hours, I have to take a break using it about 30 minutes to make it fixed again. A lot of people are experiencing the same thing, the QC is not that great. But yeah I can't lie, the sound is impressive.
Hello! Please where can a find the reference for the after market silicone tips ? It’s for a friend. Thanks
My only doubt is whether the cable is durable or not , like when you wear the earphones it feels like stretching the cable little bit
This is what I fear happened to mine. Without the earhooks I don’t know if that’s the reason they died. Very well could be :/
Hey tried buying them through the link in the description but i couldn’t from Canada
wait, is this the right way to use ear hook? 5:05 I always thought the long part is supposed to be behind your ear. cmiiw
no its not lmaooo. youre right, the long part should be behind your ear
Is the soundstage of Chu better than of kz zsn pro X or blon bl03
i bought them in june the value for money is insane
That rubber sleeve was so confusing to apply, which way is the right way to apply? I wear mine with its leaves pointing downwards
Apply them so they stand literally the same way any other earhook would. Use pictures for reference if needed.
These were great out of the box then for some reason, second listen they became really bad. I really didn't get it. I tried all the tips including 3rd party spinfits, final tips, dd tips etc
Super bright iems. If people think the dt990s treble are hot, these are twice brighter lol
is it better then blon 03
I might try different tips, but at least with the spring tips the bass is so weak that metal and EDM don't work at all becoming bright and fatiguing.
For jazz for example they're excellent.
Yeah, I agree. I love metal and EDM and these are not good for that. I’m hoping to pick up the Qudelix 5k or BTR5 to play with tuning a bit.
@@TheNaughtyType EQing the bass on these is very limited based on my attempt. A +2-3dB is nice, but adding 5dB more doesn't do much anymore.

Listening to this with my chu 😀
How about bass sound?
Please review the 7Hz Salnotes Zero and compare them to the CHU
my chu's just make me sad. I ordered them, excited to try some better iem's than my crappy KZ's... and nothing went right. I have yet to get an actual seal with the spring tips, and the buds themselves just refuse to go into my ear, and always bounce back out, and the holes on the inside of the iems' never touch my ears, neutering the bass response. the way they're supposed to slot behind a little bit of your ears just doesn't work for me. Everyone just brushes off the cable as an artifact of moondrop making them cheap, but the fact that the bit at the end of the cable isn't shaped to an ear just makes it worse. I always try to use them with the included cable shapers, which makes them staying in better, but not still not good.
And it gets worse. I started using the chu's in the middle of the very damp Queensland winter, and within 5-10 minutes of using them outside, the left or right earbud would become incredibly muffled (80% imbalance to the left or right) irreversibly for the day, and even if I sucked on the tip, nothing would happen. and this was just in the first day! After emailing moondrop about the issues, it turned out one of the two filters (white cloth-like one closer to the driver) in the tube going out was getting clogged with moisture. sadly though, because it was a recurring issue, I couldn't just put in new filters every time I went outside. I ended up taking out the cloth-like filter, and listening to them with just the primary filter on them. Turns out that cloth filter does a LOT for the sound of the chu's and now they sound harsh, and very imbalanced in random areas. even if the filter issue was resolved, it seems nothing can change how badly they fit me. I remember in the first 20 minutes of using them, I managed to miraculously get one of them to fit fully, and the other to half fit. and honestly, they sounded amazing for 40 dollars, far batter than any other option out there... they popped out very soon later. But I have ended up just giving up on the chu's and not using them. if anyone has a fix for any of my problems, I would love to hear them. I don't think I will ever actually use them again, but if I can fix some of the problems and give an actually good iem to a friend of mine, that would be great. thanks for reading this, and I hope your chu's (you probably already have them, they're only $40 lol), work much better than mine. 😐
So I heard that the 7Hz Zero are better Chu's.
But at the same time I've heard good things about the KZ ZEX Pro and ZVX are solid as well.
yes the right channel will go out soon!

Confused about how to wear them. I really don't see the "forced around the ear" design, just a straight cable (unless you're talking about those rubber thingy guides included in the box that you don't talk about....).....
I could not get the spring tips on the Chu IEM, and used other tips.
I bought a pair from aliex alongside some other audio stuff... and the right ear crackles, cuts out, and sends play/pause signals to my phone because the cable is loose. They refunded me half the price, so now I'm on a mission to mod them with removable cables. Any advice?

Good earphones, but unfortunately they don’t last long - after about 6 months the volume started dropping. After having the same issue with my second pair, I won’t buy them again.
Funny thing is that my Chu's sound better and bassier with other silicone tips. Spring tips used elsewhere
Watching with Moondrop Chu
They are absolutely magnificent and unbeat for 20$
But you can get better for 25-35$ so...
If you can absolutely not spend more than 20$, these are the one to get. But if you're not doing meth... I don't know.
They have the same harshness issue the Aria and KATO have and there is nothing more I dislike then harsh upper mids/treble.
But for 20$, you can't complain. It just begs the question, why get an 20$ In-Ear in the first place.
How do these compare to the KZ ZS10 Pros? Any recommendations for something similar/better for under 50 these days? Cheers
Easily far better just looking at the frequency response.
Well, pretty much all KZ EIMs sound the same, so if you like V shaped signatures you'll prefer whatever KZ, if you prefer the more neutral-ish/slightly bright sounding Moondrop then go with the Chus
Though, if you want kinda the best budget V shape, go for the CCA CRA
@@gaetanomusone6700 i prefer V shape by a large margin but chu is so much better than zs10

The chus just didn’t work in my ears and I could never get a good sound out of them which is a shame. Just gave them to one of my friends as a gift. This was even after trying it with other tips. Just didn’t work.
some feedback on the thumbnail;
the chu's in the center should've been a lot bigger/closer to the camera
you have light blue text on a white background (bad contrast)
each character has a different gradient, looks like the - doesn't even have one (inconsistent) you could've used a gradient that goes across the entire "- $20"
the text in bottom is too thin to attract a potential viewer's eyes
the purple sheen in the middle is good
Good until the channel imbalance strikes 😄 is there any Chinese iem that doesn't end up with channel imbalance?
