    VIDEO DESCRIPTION:
    Mandy and Rob always dreamt of life on the road, but school loans and other obligations had them feeling stuck. On one trip to Guatemala, they saw a van with Montana plates and instantly realized their far-fetched dreams were more realistic than ever. What makes this rig so unique are the hand-painted murals done by friends giving it a colorful and personal energy!
    This 2020 Mercedes Sprinter has a high roof with a short wheelbase and added suspension to enhance the 4-wheel drive. The interior has several hacks to maximize the small space and make traveling more comfortable. They installed a bed on struts that lifts to the ceiling to have more social space during the day. The kitchen has a Ninja multi-useful oven and an induction stovetop. They went for a stainless steel shower and Nature's head toilet for the bathroom section.

      The bed lift assembly is called Sleep & Store and it's made by Cass Hudson! We have a few videos about it on our channel.

    Thanq for sharing your van with us, it's brilliant, only part I'm not keen on is how claustrophobic your bed it to the ceiling, sorry but I'm EXTREMELY claustrophobic. Otherwise it's beautiful. Top marks to hubby.

    You say you use the Flarespace but the bed doesn’t sit level with the flare area and from the looks of the bed you sleep north to south. It looks like you purchased the Flarespace but changed your bed design. Love the struts. Do you have any locks to keep the bed from moving around when off-road?

    • @OutofIpswich
      @OutofIpswich Рік тому

      We definitely sleep side to side in the flares. The mattress is in 3 pieces. The middle section lifts to the ceiling. The side pieces are fixed in the flare. The center and largest piece is a custom mattress and has expanded more than we expected so it's slightly taller than the side pieces. But we use pillows for our heads and we don't even notice the height difference at our feet. There are locks built into the bed lift mechanism but we have found that it doesn't move it all and we rarely use them

    Awesome video. Curious to know why you didn’t decide to go for the longer wheelbase? Also, you’ve got the spare mounted at the back, do you foresee any practical benefit of this or is this more for esthetics? Thanks!

    • @OutofIpswich
      @OutofIpswich Рік тому

      We wanted to be able to navigate into tighter areas and still fit in a regular parking space so we went with the short wheel base and found a way to fit everything that we wanted in it. We moved the spare tire to the rear so we could put a 21gallon gray water tank under the van where the spare is normally kept. Thanks for the questions!

    I particularly like the shower door. Obviously you haven’t traveled or lived thru a cold winter yet. Main thing I’d like to know is how many mpg you get ?

    • @OutofIpswich
      @OutofIpswich Рік тому +5

      We have lived through winter in New England, actually. Typical fuel economy is around 18-19mpg.

    Nice van. I watch a lot of van life videos and it's amazing to me how some of the people quit their jobs in order have this lifestyle. Living off of money that you've saved is to me is risky. You never know if you are going to need those savings in case of emergencies.

    • @GOLDVIOLINbowofdeath
      @GOLDVIOLINbowofdeath Рік тому

      You don’t have to quit your job and if you live in a place like SF Bay area living full time in your van will save $4-6k per month in rent. Some jobs like union stagehand are irregular days and times and you can always mark yourself unavailable so a camper van is ideal

    It’s a great build no doubt, but Sprinters are becoming like Teslas, ostentatious! Big bulky and expensive and the last vehicle one wants to see at a campsite. I personally love old RV’s that have been remodeled/renovated and upgraded with 4x4 and new tech!
