I grew up in the hip hop era.... Chuck D was a hero to me, I used to think Elvis was a racist, but the deeper I delved.... I saw nothing but a beautiful human being who produced some great music. Anyone who concludes Elvis was a racist is just ignorant. May his memory live on.

Agree...I am a big fan of Elvis and people asked me, why Do I like him saying he was racist. Believe it or not I get upset and told them that he was not. I also told them if they follow up all the great news about him and the people who had been around him who Said he wasn't, then they would have known that he wasn't racist. I loved everything and still do about Elvis.

I was actually in the same boat as you. People telling me this man was a racist, and causing me not to want to listen to his music or being ashamed, but as I do my own digging I’m blasting his music in my car now.
Elvis did not give black music exposure. Black music, rock and roll in this case, was already well known to young whites and the white power structure. The problem was, like everything else emanating from the black community, the white power structure wanted to blockade, and it had been largely successful in doing so. The whites did not want Black folk to be credited with creating, and God forbid, benefitting economically from anything that could potentially give them some modicum of power. Hence, many talented Black songwriters and performers were not given the opportunity to record. Many black compositions were stolen or bought for pennies and subsequently became hit songs after being given to white performers. Rock and Roll, in it's infancy, was treated exactly the same way Rap music was treated when it first surfaced. R&R was viciously attacked and called n#gg&r music. The president of the white citizens council is on record as saying that if white kids were allowed to listen to that music it would "bring their children down to the level of the n#gg&r." It was only when they found white performers of the genre, like Elvis and Pat Boone, etc, that R&R gained universal appeal. Elvis became especially popular because he was the only white who could mimic the sound and the dance moves of black people. So he approached the semblance of authenticity that the other white performers lacked. The media autonomously promoted him as the King of R&R, a designation they never would have given to a Black performer, no matter his or her success. So every Black person and any honest white person who knows the history of R&R would understand the resentment of Ray Charles and other Black musicians who watched helplessly as they were shut out from the opportunity to fully benefit from their creation.
I'm so surprised to hear so many black legends praising Elvis. They considered him a friend. Praise from other musicians is the highest compliment. This was very moving.

Elvis passed in '77, my mom' passed in 78, about 6 months later, I wasn't 13 yet.. it's hard to associate one death without the other...I won't hesitate in the least, my eyes still tear up when watching Elvis vids....loved the man....and so did my mom.

All my life, I’ve been a huge fan of the King of Rock and Roll. I’m only in my 20s as of writing this, but his music has influenced me greatly. I had people talk negatively about Elvis to me and it made me mad. But it’s never changed my love and respect for the King. I’ve been to Graceland once. I don’t see it as a mere mansion, but as a palace for Elvis and his family. And I never knew the man behind the legend until I saw it: ELVIS, the new Baz Lurhmann movie starring Austin Butler as the King, and Tom Hanks as the wicked Col Tom Parker. I loved every bit of it!!!! It was awesome!!!! Another thing that I respect about Elvis is that, even though people call him the “King,” he never let it go to his head, because he knew that the one true King was Jesus Christ, the Son of God, Son of Man, the greatest human being to have ever walked the Earth.

I can recall it like it was yesterday, I was sitting at my desk in Miss Buchanan's class grade 4 , the office lady came on the intercom but she was too broken up to talk then the Principal very gravely voiced shared the tragic new's that Elvis had passed on, I remember he only referred to him as Elvis, Miss Buchanen collapsed into her chair crying, when I got home my Mom was crying she cried for a few day's there wasn't a women on my street that wasn't crying it was like we lost a close family member. . .
I was in 3rd grade and Buddy Dean came in broken voice on KOTN, Cotton Radio . "The King Has Died". My mother washing dishes broke down balling in tears. It made me cry. Does today. God Bless Memphis and Elvis. Thanks for commenting my friend.

My mother called and told me. I did not believe it, but I screamed. The young yard guy on the other side of the fence could hear me, but not see me, was dumbfounded. I grabbed my child and went inside and turned on the radio in the intercom on the wall, sat on the floor and cried.. ALL ELVIS. Everywhere, ELVIS. My husband came in the back door and he, too, was crying. Then my phone started ringing from all over the country. No, I shall never forget loosing a piece of myself, like a brother. I still go to Memphis frequently on Elvis Week.

As a fan of the rat pack it always moves me when Sammy, who loved rings, LOVED rings and wore so many, the first thing Elvis did upon meeting him was gave Sammy a ring off his own finger. People in my retirement apartments are in their nineties and still cooking, doing large table puzzles and some are driving, on the tenant board, clear minded, all together in sight, hearing, have cute haircuts, hardly any wrinkles...unbelievable. i couldn't have said it better. when i was a kid my parents wouldn't let me listen to rhythm and blues. elvis came along and made it ok. he introduce my generation to rock and roll. he allowed blacks to earn a living with their music. he opened doors that were closed before
My Grandmother was a 'Lady in Waiting' at Windsor Castle and she told me her favourite song in the world was Elvis Presley's 'Love Me Tender'. I've played it on a superb sound system at a good volume and I swear, no one can ever touch him for the emotive feeling of honesty and sincerity that was transcended through his voice when he sang a song. I love Elvis Presley as a singer and a man. I also believe his 'Don't Be Cruel' saved many a kid from getting a licking from their parents in those days thanks to Radio Stations all across the nation.

His fans may've wanted more from him as far as recordings were concerned according to the times, yet Elvis was busy making movies and songs made for them. Every so often Elvis would release a new single outside of his movie collection and it would zoom up the charts, because no matter who you were you loved Elvis. The day he died, I was in my car and a kid on a bicycle riding by said, Elvis is dead and something in the way he said it made me come to a stop. I turned on the car radio and heard the announcer say that Elvis was dead, I immediately drove home and took the day off, it was like a member of my family had died. Elvis was my secret friend, a better brother you might say, I had adopted Elvis as someone I would like forever as long as I lived, and it's because of Elvis I feel the same way about the Beatles. Elvis was truly a King to be reckoned with, and he always did live up to his motto, 'Taking Care of Business'. Hope that answers your question. Blue Hawaii is one of my many favourite songs of his, take a listen and enjoy.

elvis gave me my music as a kid. hound dog and don't be cruel set the tone for my choices for the music i would love my whole life. he set the table for rock and roll as we know it today. he set us free from the prejudice of a generation and allowed us to listen to black man's music. rip elvis

I was surprised to hear Little Richard speak so favorably about him as I thought I'd heard that he'd talked the same kind of trash about him that Ray Charles supposedly did but I'm glad that he told it like it was not how others may have wanted it to be. Elvis changed the world for the better.

My upbringing was, I suppose, anchored musically by The Beatles, despite my being born towards the final days of their existence as a band. Having older siblings means that your hand-me-downs aren't restricted to clothes. My father was middle-aged when I was born, which meant Acker Bilk, Benny Goodman and others. But there was an Elvis record in his collection, Harum Scarum. Anyway, despite my musical childhood and adulthood skewing off here and diverging there, there's still no denying that Elvis is the King.

A very good video. Elvis was a great singer, entertainer and human being. There will never be another Elvis. He didn't need modern technology to make him sound good, he really was that good. I would hate to imagine what music may have become if there never was an Elvis.
And he achieved such popularity with just radio, personal appearances and limited tv exposure. Did not have the benefit of the mass mediums that are available today.
My parents were big Elvis fans, back in my teens me and my friends really didn't appreciate how great Elvis was. Over the years I now know what a huge impact he had and what a genuine person he was regardless of creed or colour.

Agree...I am a big fan of Elvis and people asked me, why Do I like him saying he was racist. Believe it or not I get upset and told them that he was not. I also told them if they follow up all the great news about him and the people who had been around him who Said he wasn't, then they would have known that he wasn't racist. I loved everything and still do about Elvis.
It make me happy to know that are some people like yourself who have it in them to not listen to whats being said and to investigate matters and find out the truth. Elvis did not give black music exposure. Black music, rock and roll in this case, was already well known to young whites and the white power structure.
The problem was, like everything else emanating from the black community, the white power structure wanted to blockade, and it had been largely successful in doing so. The whites did not want Black folk to be credited with creating, and God forbid, benefitting economically from anything that could potentially give them some modicum of power.
Hence, many talented Black songwriters and performers were not given the opportunity to record. Many black compositions were stolen or bought for pennies and subsequently became hit songs after being given to white performers.
Rock and Roll, in it's infancy, was treated exactly the same way Rap music was treated when it first surfaced.
R&R was viciously attacked and called n#gg&r music. The president of the white citizens council is on record as saying that if white kids were allowed to listen to that music it would "bring their children down to the level of the n#gg&r."
It was only when they found white performers of the genre, like Elvis and Pat Boone, etc, that R&R gained universal appeal.
Elvis became especially popular because he was the only white who could mimic the sound and the dance moves of black people. So he approached the semblance of authenticity that the other white performers lacked.
The media autonomously promoted him as the King of R&R, a designation they never would have given to a Black performer, no matter his or her success.
So every Black person and any honest white person who knows the history of R&R would understand the resentment of Ray Charles and other Black musicians who watched helplessly as they were shut out from the opportunity to fully benefit from their creation.

I can recall it like it was yesterday, I was sitting at my desk in Miss Buchanan's class grade 4 , the office lady came on the intercom but she was too broken up to talk then the Principal very gravely voiced shared the tragic new's that Elvis had passed on, I remember he only referred to him as Elvis, Miss Buchanen collapsed into her chair crying, when I got home my Mom was crying she cried for a few day's there wasn't a women on my street that wasn't crying it was like we lost a close family member. . .

My mother called and told me. I did not believe it, but I screamed. The young yard guy on the other side of the fence could hear me, but not see me, was dumbfounded. I grabbed my child and went inside and turned on the radio in the intercom on the wall, sat on the floor and cried.. ALL ELVIS. Everywhere, ELVIS. My husband came in the back door and he, too, was crying. Then my phone started ringing from all over the country. No, I shall never forget loosing a piece of myself, like a brother. I still go to Memphis frequently on Elvis Week.

As a fan of the rat pack it always moves me when Sammy, who loved rings, LOVED rings and wore so many, the first thing Elvis did upon meeting him was gave Sammy a ring off his own finger. Elvis loved giving gifts to people. Sammy was taken back by this gesture. Elvis the man was a beautiful human being.

i couldn't have said it better. when i was a kid my parents wouldn't let me listen to rhythm and blues. elvis came along and made it ok. he introduce my generation to rock and roll. he allowed blacks to earn a living with their music. he opened doors that were closed before
My Grandmother was a 'Lady in Waiting' at Windsor Castle and she told me her favourite song in the world was Elvis Presley's 'Love Me Tender'. I've played it on a superb sound system at a good volume and I swear, no one can ever touch him for the emotive feeling of honesty and sincerity that was transcended through his voice when he sang a song.
I love Elvis Presley as a singer and a man. I also believe his 'Don't Be Cruel' saved many a kid from getting a licking from their parents in those days thanks to Radio Stations all across the nation.

valeria silva Elvis Presley was one of a kind, there will only be one Elvis, his songs were magic on a turntable, he had a shyness of his fame that showed on his face, even though he knew he was accepted as a big star. His fans may've wanted more from him as far as recordings were concerned according to the times, yet Elvis was busy making movies and songs made for them. Every so often Elvis would release a new single outside of his movie collection and it would zoom up the charts, because no matter who you were you loved Elvis. The day he died, I was in my car and a kid on a bicycle riding by said, Elvis is dead and something in the way he said it made me come to a stop. I turned on the car radio and heard the announcer say that Elvis was dead, I immediately drove home and took the day off, it was like a member of my family had died. Elvis was my secret friend, a better brother you might say, I had adopted Elvis as someone I would like forever as long as I lived, and it's because of Elvis I feel the same way about the Beatles. Elvis was truly a King to be reckoned with, and he always did live up to his motto, 'Taking Care of Business'.

elvis gave me my music as a kid. hound dog and don't be cruel set the tone for my choices for the music i would love my whole life. he set the table for rock and roll as we know it today. he set us free from the prejudice of a generation and allowed us to listen to black man's music. rip elvis

I love this video very much, I watched it many times but there is one critic I want to say. I heard several times Elvis is one of the greatest entertainers like by John Lee Hooker, Little Richard... I take the opportunity to correct them by saying Elvis is NOT one of the greatest but just THE GREATEST OF ALL TIMES PERIOD!!! And not because only for his music but also for his humanity, his humbility, his generosity, his honesty!!!

A beautiful tribute by some honest people who were gracious enough to speak publicly about their admiration & love for Elvis. I was surprised to hear Little Richard speak so favorably about him as I thought I'd heard that he'd talked the same kind of trash about him that Ray Charles supposedly did but I'm glad that he told it like it was not how others may have wanted it to be. Elvis changed the world for the better.
Who cares about Ray Charles??? The fuckhead was blind. You can't trust a blind persons opinion of anybody they haven't met personally...especially if it's a critique of Elvis, the peak of human evolution, who never said or did anything but show his kindness and generosity to the world. If he saw how amazing Elvis looked and moved, he wouldn't be such a bitter, ignorant loser. Shame when you find out how stupid somebody is, regardless of their talent, which Ray Charles was limited in. Lost all respect for him as a sensible man. I thought he was more intelligent than that. My upbringing was, I suppose, anchored musically by The Beatles, despite my being born towards the final days of their existence as a band. Having older siblings means that your hand-me-downs aren't restricted to clothes. My father was middle-aged when I was born, which meant Acker Bilk, Benny Goodman and others. But there was an Elvis record in his collection, Harum Scarum. Anyway, despite my musical childhood and adulthood skewing off here and diverging there, there's still no denying that Elvis is the King.

A very good video. Elvis was a great singer, entertainer and human being. There will never be another Elvis. He didn't need modern technology to make him sound good, he really was that good. I would hate to imagine what music may have become if there never was an Elvis.
And he achieved such popularity with just radio, personal appearances and limited tv exposure. Did not have the benefit of the mass mediums that are available today.
My parents were big Elvis fans, back in my teens me and my friends really didn't appreciate how great Elvis was. Over the years I now know what a huge impact he had and what a genuine person he was regardless of creed or colour.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ I have enjoyed this very much remembering the Southern gentleman that he was. ELVIS⚡LIVES.

Shock why would these rich and successful artists need to lie? If Elvis was a racist and treated them badly back then why are none of them saying so now? They all look sincere to me.

He was a unique gift from god, and each and every one of these people are also special messengers from God... Brilliant talents, the best of the best, and this video ends up being the answer to racism in America. "Kindness" and "Mutual Respect" as shown to us all by Elvis Presley, and the marvelous friends who honor his life in this tribute. It's good for your soul to be kind to one another. Black White Yellow or Purple. No forgets a kindness received, when they really needed some kindness. No one can be respectful of someone who didn't show respect. Music is Love. and Elvis is King.
