I use these to cut clear coat using a Porter Cable 7424xp.and Optimum Hyper Compund, or 3D ACA500. Yeahh, I wouldn't want to use that set up on a gelcoat! 😂 Thank you for the information on these pads.
I have enjoyed all of your posts that I have seen. Just a comment or two and a question. I know your videos seem to be aimed toward the professionals who detail boats. I am sure a lot of us DIY'ers watch too. I have a 1978 15.5 Ranger bass boat the I have started working on bringing the Gel coat back to life as much as possible. I cannot afford a Flex or other high dollar polishing machines. So I have a LDHTHOPI rotary and a small Bauer D/A. I will put my money into the pads and chemicals. I am also thinking about buying a SPTA Mini Polishing Machine Buffer Rotary Polisher for tight spaces. I did buy the Jescar Ultra Lock + sealant. I have done the top astern part and it looks so much better. My question is how and what do you do when to go back a few month later to maintain it. I am hoping that you do not have to wet sand again. I am not sure if you try to strip off the sealer and polish or what? Thanks for any advice and I will keep tuning to your posts. Take care
harbor freight just came out with a bootleg flex 3401 forced rotation polisher. I got it and it worked out great with the lake country orange foam pad to take out the swirls left from the rotary. The flex 5” backing plate also fits perfectly on the gear driven hf Hercules polisher.
Use an Sio2 maintenance spray every month to retain the protection. In Florida, 6 months later I can come back and do a compound and polish and it’ll look brand new again. Or after 3 months just do a plush. You should never have to sand your boat twice
Trying to restore oxidized white gelcoat. everything above the rubrail on my old wellcraft. Was thinking level r with white wool followed by elevate on the purple foamed wool. Sound like a good combo to try?
If you sand up to 2000 grit could you use this pad with a diminishing heavy cut instead of a wool pad rotary? Or would you recommend still doing the rotary before?

That is very undervalued. $2000 for all that?
Another great video, will it work on cars one step system?
It can work. Typically a long throw polisher like a Rupes 21 will get you better results on paint. Great pad but different machine

Will it hurt to run this over decals on the boat? Thanks
No you should be fine

If it’s too oxidized it won’t work. But otherwise sounds good to me

No definitely still need a rotary and wool pad with a heavy cut compound
How many months of protection are you getting with ultra lock ?
It varies depending on the condition of the gelcoat. Typically 5-9 months
great stuff.👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks!
I think you under sold your self. You should of asked for 2500
Yeah 😂 Business was slow after the hurricane
