Keep posting! It's interesting to see the garden and other growing spaces throughout the year; even in a 'sunny' place I'm not even thinking about what is growing during the winter season. Heated floors always sound nice. I need to catch up on the pool videos, interesting to see how that is throughout this process.
Thank you! It's nice to know what people find interesting so I can cover more of it. Delve into the pool history; it's been a roller coaster so far. But I'm really looking forward to swimming this summer - finally.
Thank you! It is exceptionally well designed to feel much larger than it actually is. The kitchen, bathroom/laundry/shower, and bedroom are each a little less than 100 sqft and the livingroom is a little larger than 100 sf. To put it into perspective, a fact I point out during tours is the length from the refrigerator to the double door in the livingroom seems long (actual length is 18' 0") but I couldn't even park my truck in that space as a Toyota Tacoma extended cab with full length bed is longer than 18'.
Good morning, Shawn. I enjoyed your update. Why are you raking all the leaves from the woods edge to your side walk? They are a great addition to adding nutrients to the area. I am very happy to hear that your tall trees did not come down on your greenhouse. We also had some nasty weather, a foot of snow, ice and high winds. I am ready for Spring. I feel your happiness with all the light that filters into your home from the greenshouse. Very little sunshine here in Wisconsin, dreary and cold. Like you, I find it a great time to organize, mend and iron. :0) The last six weeks I have been getting ready to move my Mom (she presently lives in my building) to the assisted living building. Days and days worth of bags of 'donations'. Scaling down is challenging when doing it for someone else. Almost done. Move is in a few days. I hope to get back to my painting and drawing soon. Take care and enjoy your LIGHT. :0)
Good evening Lark. The reason I want to rake those leaves is that's my septic drain field so I don't need nutrients or mulch there and there are so few leaves on my property I'd like to use those in my compost or mulch the dirt I spread next to the ramp. Sorry to hear about your mom. Yes, it is hard to downsize someone else's possessions. Especially when there are items of sentimental value. I hope you will soon be able to get back to painting and drawing. Regards, Shawn
I like a bedroom that is cooler- more comfortable to sleep in. Interesting the mouse went after the parsley amused that a mouse would like it as much as humans us it in recipes.-- I was really surprised by the ice in the swimming pond. possibly with the added mass of water when you refill it and get the water circulating then it wouldn't ice over. Was this an unusual storm temperature wise? Something that might happen every ten or fifteen years? The trailer is regulated now as a guest house? Have you thought of selling it off- and turning that area into a rv parking pad to rent out-- lets say a two nights minimum no more than 5 nights- you could have a nice stream of interesting rv people visiting. With the ferry price- bet it would be a interesting customer willing to pay for the bragging rights. Would be curious how many rv camping spots are actually on the island. Might fill a very micro market if the island has zero I would bet there is some regulation against it. The house seemed really comfy and warm. The Kitchen is my favorite - then the shower- then the bed- still liking the skylight that was suggested.
We do seem to be getting more cold days and colder days than I remember growing up. I don't think a week or more of sub-freezing will be unusual in the future. Only the surface froze where the air pump didn't disturb the surface (only the east pump was running, the west end froze over). I'm not sure what will happen when there's more water but I'm super interested to find out! As far as the trailer - my original idea was to remove the trailer and bring in a tiny home on wheels for guest housing and then a caretaker when I age to needing assistance. But the trailer is now 'land locked' in place with the deck to the west, drainfield and hill to the east, greenhouse and hill to the north. Only way out is across the neighbor's property to the south. She might give me permission for taking trailer out and bringing a THOW in but not in and out for rv rentals. There are a few THOW short-term rentals on the island that seem to do well. Thanks for the room ranking; the kitchen is probably my favorite too. Although after living for years in a place that didn't have a bath or shower, I really appreciate the shower too.
Honestly, don't even try to use battery power for supplemental heat. Even a heating mat would probably drain the batteries of a small battery bank, in no more than a few hours. My brother has about 20 thousand dollars worth of batteries in his van. The smallest space heater will probably drain them in about 12 hours.
You've been such a wonderful inspiration. Thank you.
Wow, thank you!
Keep working . Everything looks great
Thanks!
Always love your video updates!
Thank you so much!
This video was really fun. Is your channel changing my life? Well, maybe! I respect what you are doing so very much!
Wow, thank you!

Well done. I've seen other homes inside of greenhouses. It didn't seem like yours was only 400 sq ft.

The power doesn't, usually, go out for very long so the battery backup is mainly to get through a few hours. Solar recharge.
