The line that hits hardest is "we never should have named her because now she has a face".
Losing a child during pregnancy is just as hard as losing a child who had been born. My heart breaks for anyone else who has had to go through this pain.
My daughter, Jacinta Maree was just under 20 weeks when I lost her. Her cord was long and had wrapped around her neck. I had to go through delivering her. She was 15cm (6 inches) and weighed 5kg (11 pounds). I have her handprints and her footprints. 30 years later and I still wonder what she would have been like.

Nice reaction, this was written when they lost their first child, another great one of his is No Bravery, an older one but still relevant today.

I was one of the ones that recommended this after seeing your video of "Monsters". The girl I was dating told me she couldn't get pregnant, (long story). So anyway when she told me she was my first reaction was shock. As the months went by I really started to look forward to the day yet still full of doubts about being a father. I knew I didn't have the greatest relationship with my dad. Well she had a miscarriage so my baby boy was never born, never got to even take his first breath. This song leaves me devastated. I still wonder if I would have been a good dad.

Loved the reaction. You mentioned how you could NOT have listened to this had it actually happened to you...sadly...that did happen to my wife and I years ago. I had no idea what the song was about when I first saw it and it destroyed me...typically does each time I watch the video and mainly because of the imagery within the video of putting away the booties, dismantling the crib, the wife just crying....oh my. He's on point with the lyrics and emotions.

When we saw james at Newcastle arena last year the screen behind him played the girl running through the field.
Im so glad i didn't watch the full music video first.
If you get the chance to see him live, you must go.
the greatest song writer of his generation ♥️

Very good review and I agree with you that it's puzzling why he's not known more. He was harassed by other artists and the press when he first came out. Jealousy and hatefulness at it's best. Underrated singer songwriter for sure. An older one If Time is All I have official video is very beautiful and very sad. No Bravery was written by James Blunt about his time In the military in Kosovo. Official video with his video diary clips is a must see. Glad I rediscovered him in 2024. Looking forward to seeing him perform in Boston in 2025 Back to Bedlam 20th anniversary tour.

I wrote a comment under this when you released it, but deleted it because I thought it was a bit of an over share.
But basically, my wife and me were expecting twins, we got told a few months in that one had spina bifida and wouldn’t make it. They gave us a choice as to whether we terminated the whole pregnancy, knowing we had one healthy twin, or go full term knowing that one twin wouldn’t survive after being born.
It was heartbreaking and felt like an impossible choice, but we decided to go full term. The conflicting emotions when they were born was absolutely torturous.
One daughter survived and she’s absolutely the best thing that’s ever happened to us. Her sister survived a week before passing and it took years to shake the guilt of choosing to go full term knowing she’d have such a short life.
I stumbled across this song not long ago and JB captures the heartache and almost helplessness you feel when you’re trying to comfort your partner whilst also trying to heal yourself and raise a daughter at the same time.
I personally found this song to be cathartic and heartbreaking at the same time. I wouldn’t wish that feeling of loss on anyone.

@double Take Reacts , I call somewhat BS to this reaction on this and not in a bad way. The man (please excuse me for not knowing his name as I am new to your channel) has an emotional response as well as you do, but far more subtle and held in check as most men are expected to do. This is classical for how a woman can express her emotions and men must "not do so". His body language reflects the same thing that your are expressing, as men are taught to suppress from birth. Both of you are reacting to the same emotions but in different ways. Instead, men must not express the emotions at is taught from birth, yet you see him looking in discomfort Watch his and moving his eyes to the left away from the video and his body stance, his rate of eyebrow furrowing, his eye blinking and reaction to seem as partial to being not moved by this video and his head side movements of a negative, denial response and a grimace (look at 2:25 for an example and his glottal or Adam's apple response at 2:30, hid eye closure as if to blind himself, his grunting and sighing later in the video There are even involuntary lip smacking and head tilting to the back. He often looks at her to support and be supported by her as if trying to fix things for her which is mentioned in the video expected man's reaction to try to '"fix this" which is what this made it worse for her as James Blount . I have been through this. Yes, her pain is immense but his pain as equally great showed by James Blount on the bathroom floor in complete desperation devoid of the nursery and he is secluded from this woman who packs away the new baby things including smelling the new baby shoes. Not to demean the immense pain to her, but also the immense pain to him as well as his nature to try to fix things as he cannot do, which is the nature that man does. Both the man and the woman are suffering but each differently and are not wrong. Both reactions are equally important. Her suffering from thinking that she did something wrong and should have been expected to carry this birth forward including thoughts that she did something wrong such as not eating right or taking some medication, event, inability to be fertile or even not being able to carry a child with his pain of not being there, not being able to protect and serve being virile, and doing a wrong against her and his future child - the child that he nor should would never get to show their love equally. Both are equally in pain.
