why no mention of installing a thermostat controlled exhaust fan (on at 90 degrees) at the upper edge of the wall, and an open screen vent at the other end.? That is the easiest quickest way to get return of investment in my opinion. I've done this to a couple houses I had in the past, very effective. (Agree extra insulation is needed)
Because if there is not a good air seal on the ceiling- it ends up sucking conditioned air into the attic. Most houses do not have a good seal so that is why did not mention it. Plus any air sealing and insulation you do to help in the Summer also works in the Winter.

Any tips for a cathedral type of ceiling? No go for foam, it will be a nightmare to locate a leak.
