A bamboo screen that prevents most of the sunlight from reaching the window works better than any inside treatment. It also gives a warm natural glow to the home. I come from Canada and would love to learn what can grow here over concrete walls the way ivy does in Canada and Europe to stay cool.

The outdoor tiled floor deflects the sunlight/heat into your glass-walled rooms. That contributed a lot to your heat gain. A glass house is undeniably beautiful... but in the Philippines, it's so tropically unfriendly. But you do have my dream house. Thank you for your passion and your tips.

Jalousy windows are a security and AC cooling nightmare. They're easy to break into and when closed still leak so much air that it cost you much more to actively cool the home. And, going back earlier consider elevating the house on stilts. The airspace underneath the home prevents radiant heatsoak from the ground and crossflow air cooling. It also provides additional flood protection.
I am a big fan of partially-buried builds, especially in hotter climates. Climate-controlled environments that also provide ample protection against hurricanes and typhoons etc..
@@hf7976 I am no expert, but probably, in areas like the Philippines, you would need to account for things like landslides, earthquakes and water table levels etc.. There would be many structural components to consider as well, depending on how much top-soil (if any) that you have. Maybe a solid concrete build with structural steel framing would be nice. You would need to thoroughly waterproof the concrete. That being said, you could probably do it easier and cheaper, if you wanted to. Either way, would want to hire a good engineer that knows what they are doing.
The orientation of a house can significantly impact its internal temperature. If a house faces west, it will be exposed to the intense heat of the setting sun, especially if it has large glass windows. This can create a greenhouse effect, where the sun's rays pass through the windows and are absorbed by materials inside the house, such as concrete and metal. These materials store the heat and gradually release it throughout the night, keeping the house warmer even after the sun has set. Additionally, poor wind circulation can exacerbate this effect by preventing heat from dissipating efficiently, leading to higher temperatures inside the house.
Hi Slater, very nice content. I hope you can also make content similar to this or like how to make a 3-story building house to have proper ventilation and well lit. Especially if the house is also between 2 buildings. And what is the best type of window to use. Thanks in advance 😊
Interesting. Thanks for sharing. Maybe suited for rich audiences. But for regular folks, long tall trees will help on the south and west sides, breezeway inside the house by placing windows on lower part on entry and higher windows for escape (so find out wind direction throughout the year), design the roof overhangs using online tools that tells the angle the sun makes to any part of the house anytime of the year in any locations and use of rice husk and straws for insulation. For greener house, use bamboo for framing (2x4 lumbers in North America) instead of hollow blocks (cement manufacture contributes to greenhouse gas). Just make sure treat them first for protection against ants.
