This is funny to hear about and shit but am I the only person feeling visceral disgust at the utter destruction Rahm allowed to beset working people because it wasn’t him or his people that were involved in the relief plans
it's interesting to hear chapos from before this moment, the pre-iowa bernie surge. i remember listening to this when it came out, i don't remember hearing the hopelessness that exists in the background of these conversations. "things COULD be a way, but everything is fucked." here I am now, three days from destiny at the iowa caucus, and maybe it'll be a disaster or we'll get worked over by the DNC, maybe we're overestimating this whole thing, and it's all one big football pull that tricked us into trying electoralism one more time, but the hope that is pouring out from every side, that maybe we're about to be vindicated in a way that justifies just over a hundred years of left-wing agitation in the US, is palpable. biden-aligned PACs just spent a huge wad of cash to advertise against bernie and he turned it into one of his biggest fundraising days of a campaign marked by massive fundraising days. joe biden is physically accosting basically anyone who comes within five feet of him, smelling, biting, boasting, shoving, grabbing, and his fear is obvious to any observer. basically, where we are now is, biden can rival and maybe beat sanders in iowa if amy's ten percent of the polls reliably choose him as a second candidate. maybe Andrew Yang and unlikely ally Tom Steyer, two wealthy people who somehow support sanders, might send their refugees over to bernie, and might push us over. it's a weird moment. I kind of wish i could tweet back through time at will and matt and tell them though, how close we are right now. especially knowing that we might not get any closer.
@@christinahejny9520 I mean not really. i call in this post that biden is the guy to beat and that this whole thing balanced pretty much on the tip of a knife. "we might not get any closer" wasn't a joke
20:30 This insanity remains with us right up until today. Imagine trying to sell the idea that the ONLY way to beat the other side was to become them, but change the labels and hope nobody noticed. Actually, come to think of it, it's such an especially fucking corporate way to conduct your business, that it's no wonder this reminds me of the video game industry. MMOs lining up to be literally World of Warcraft with a new paintjob. The brown military shooter craze to nip at Call of Duty's market supremacy. All of them failing, all of them dying by the roadside forgotten, because when people have the real deal already in their hands, why would they ever settle for second-best? Yet despite this strategy, the supposed 'sure bet' and 'risk aversion' producing nothing but titanic failures, it goes on, and on, and on. Because when you have no soul (capitalism), you have no clue what moves other men's souls. Grasping blindly, your only hope is to just try and copy what already has been proven to work with slavish devotion. Never nailing your colors to the mast, never saying anything decisive, never having an identity of your own. Sound familiar to anything you've seen in politics, Democratic voters? That's the exact kind of 'professional' approach of the party that has led to triangulation, surrender, appeasement, betrayal, and most importantly for our purposes, to loss, after loss, after loss, after loss.

Join us! We are doing an extended series on communist union General August Willich who led entire German regiments into battle under the stars and stripes and kicked confederate ass all the way to Georgia! Before that, he was an 1848 communist revolutionary who tried to seduce Karl marxs wife to the point of a duel! We have an episode up right now we recorded last weekend with Andrew Zimmerman, the world expert on marx and engels writings on the Civil war. Marx wrote extensively about the conflict and saw it as a revolutionary war in the way that willich did. He mentions willich in the writings multiple times and at one point insinuates that he might lead a northern revolution to force Lincolns hand on emancipation. His analysis of the conflict is of course, spot on. We are looking to change the narrative of the civil war from a sad conflict to the greatest thing this country has ever done. We also want to fully explore the failures of reconstruction and why, from a marxist/willich perspective, they came up well short. In our view the left needs both these heros like willich to be proud of and to Celebrate as well as to learn the lessons of how we came up short then. In our view, we are dealing with the same evil forces of capital now. We believe that this is a defining moment in our history that ,if shaken correctly, can mount a counter hegemonic wave to truly challenge capital. The post bernie left can learn a lot from these stories. Im working class, working on an actual shop floor. Bernie woke me up to the class war going on and now I, like many others, are trying to learn about theory and history and everything, so we figured it would be a fun way to do it and share these lessons with as many leftists so we learn together.
