    I'm 56 now and surely haven't seen this in over 45 years, but for some reason, I started singing this in my head so I had to search YT for the clip! Crazy! Especially that I remembered the lyrics after all these years! Yet here I am, fighting to remember facts for MY upcoming medical board exam!?? SMH! Anyway, damn, those kids were so freaking cute! All my buddies were in love with Darla! LOL!

      And from mine too, but reruns of the "Little Rascals" on TV in the 1970s!!! I wanted to put on shows and plays like them when I was a kid. It was really exciting.

    Carl Switzer and Darla Hood did not like each other, but they were good at hiding it.

      they had a large age gap, vast maturity difference, and carl had those anger issues. so of course, little baby darla was scared of him, but she admired him still for his work. they were actually friends and kept in touch in later life, though.

      @@kythle300 As far as I know, Carl Switzer and his brother Harold were very aggressive and immature. Because of their aggressive and immature behavior, they died young. I don't know if it's true, but I heard Carl made Darla reach into his pocket. He told her there was a ring in there. But there was no ring, but an open jackknife. Her hand was so badly injured that she must taken to a hospital.

      @kythle300 Рік тому

      @@mrmucro2704 yeah, the story is sadly true. and you’re right about the switzer’s behaviour-mental illness ran in the family. but multiple of the kids have come forward and said carl was a good kid, who was left with mental problems due to the abuse he suffered at home. his dad would beat him every morning, and the kids recall him taking extra time having his makeup done for scenes to cover it up. he couldn’t escape it either, as his dad always showed up on set, drunk and angry. hence carl’s behaviour. but yeah, most of the kids have said while having some horrible moment and massive issues, he was a good, smart kid beneath it all. they all remember him fondly despite his behaviour, so it’s safe to say he probably had good moments that aren’t documented in history. plus-darla hood definitely got the brunt of his poor behaviour, and still remained friends with him later on, so they must have liked him. they all knew how crummy his home life was. as for harold… i’m not so sure he was a good kid, but perhaps he would’ve been had his home life been different. they all cherished and loved carl regardless and spoke of him with honour as adults. if he had been alive now, i’m sure he would’ve got the help he needed.

      GIRL: According to definition, affection is a thing that seems to change you from the start; and complexion is a thing, if affection is to blame, will act just like a mirror to your heart.
      ALFALFA: The object of my affection can change my complexion from white to rosy red, any time you hold my hand and tell me that you're mine. There are many girls who can thrill me and some who can fill me with dreams of happiness, but I know I'll never rest until you say you're mine.
      Now, I'm not afraid that you'll leave me. You're not the kind to be unfair. But instead I trust you implicitly. You can go where you want to go, do what you want to do, I don't care. Oh, the object of my affection can change my complexion from white to rosy red, any time you hold my hand and tell me that you're mine.

    Two questions..1)Were Alfalfa and Darla ever a couple? & 2)Are any of the Our Gang kids still alive?

    • @fayeri2168

      1) alfie and darla had a four year age gap and never dated in real life (in fact, she was scared of him because he was a bit of a mischief maker) but they did have an infamous on again off again relationship in the show
      2) as of march this year following the passing of robert blake, there is one rascal left - sidney kibrick who played woim, butch’s sidekick

    One thing that I noticed as an unsophisticated child who had seen very few movies when the “Our Gang” shorts along with Laurel and Hardy and old films shown after school and before the news in the early ‘70s, was that these kids always wore the most amazing costumes for their “shed shows” and didn’t act at all like children, even though the shows were supposedly entirely put on by children. Although I thought certain aspects were cute, I somehow came to the conclusion that the stories were silly and contrived….in other words, they were for adults, not kids. I never really liked them, especially the portrayal of Buckwheat, which embarrassed and confused me. I grew up in northwestern Wisconsin, where there were literally only 2 African American professional families….one father was an art professor married to a beloved elementary school teacher, and the other was an officer in the Air Force, stationed in a much larger city across the bay. You can see why Buckwheat didn’t compute!
