As a retired truck driver the best advice I can give is invest in a mini fridge, an electric stovetop, a nice TV/computer, a small grill for summer, adblocker for listening to things on youtube, A dehydrator for fruits and meats. Use truck stops for showers, laundry, and socializing. But don't give in and buy their over priced stuff. Plan your comfort accordingly. It's key for the long haul. Drive safe. Love from Wisconsin!
We can agree on how much you can be deducting from my salary to payback what ever cost of plane logistics you're gonna spend on me.

@craigslistrr how’s it going now? Do you have any knowledge you wish you would’ve known before you signed up? I would appreciate the feedback. (Currently 20 Y.O with an interest in this field)
How it's been
@@jasonnuno132 I got my CDL when I was 19, back in Nov. 2020. I've have about 2 years experience and I've been hauling grain, fertilizer and feed products in mostly Ag. hopper trailers. After I'm 22 I'll have enough to go to a OTR tanker company and start making more.
Ask me anything, I'd be happy to ask any questions.
I work for a private trucking school and it amazes me how naïve people are to to what it takes to do this job. Far to many have the attitude that "its just driving a truck" . This job requires skill, attention to detail, and a self starter attitude. You also need the ability to stay focused and in the game on long weeks and drives. The best advice I can give people is no matter who you work for or who owns the truck you got to run that truck like you own it. How you feel about the company or owner means very little. That truck pays your bills and if its not running your not making money. Pretrip it like its yours, Learn the operating costs, keep track of the expenses (fuel, maintenance, repairs, and if you can payment and insurance). All this will help you keep making money and make good decision when and if you decide to get your own truck.
Truth be told ⏳💸💸💸💸💸
That's going overboard, dude. Why should you care how much insurance for the truck costs your employer or how much their loan payments cost???
@@BeKindToAll03 With that you can get a guage on how much it would cost yourself if you were to own one and would it fit into your budget and expenses. Keep track of everything and anything isnt a bad idea at all. Even if its not your truck seeing how much repairs cost along with other expenses is something you can start setting funds aside for when your pruchase your own truck.
Thank you for the sound advice. I'm entering a six week course in two weeks. I'm so excited!
@@Kallu.Media1 *if* you buy your own truck. I've got no interest in that, sure you can make more money but it also adds a huge cost that's gotta be paid and kept up with. I'd rather do without all that stress.
I have 3 kids. I'm very introverted borderline social anxiety. I hate the fact that I have to be away for days/weeks at a time but I need to make more money to give them a better life and hopefully leave them something when I go. Starting school soon, wish me luck!
Hey, how’s the school going for you?
Don’t need to be gone for weeks. Maybe a couple months till you learn but there’s local Jobs that take guys from school. Well, maybe not in your area. Most of these guys in these vids blow a lot of smoke. I scan through at times to see. Lol. 43 year veteran here and I get a lot of laughs. Most have more sh?? than a Christmas goose Usually don’t listen to more than a minute or 2. You can tell real quick they are full of it. Good luck. Stay off the phone while driving and stay in your lane when beside another vehicle. So many bad drivers out there.
How was school????
Hey guys, I went to sage trucking. It's located in Pa. I'm currently driving for a local company. I'm home every night, working about 10-12 hour days, sometimes longer and sometimes shorter. I'm currently on pace to make 100k this year.
And school wasn't bad at all. I found a job who put me through it for free! It was only a 1 week course lmao. Sounds ridiculous right?
19, no kids, hate people, single, broke as shit and need a job, clean driving record, and I enjoy isolation. Sounds like the job for me just no clue where to start.
W
Did you ever find out where to start? I’m 19 right now and trying to get into the job but I don’t know where to start
My dad wants to get me in the family buisness, kinda scared. so here I am at 1am trying to figure out what the hell im supposed to do.
you have a whole life ahead of you, take it easy and realize most people work for someone elses profit. a family business is great as long as you dont mix business with pleasure. It will also be alot easier getting your foot in doors. You can work, stack your money and on your time off figure out what you want to do in the future. 4, to 10 years from now. I have no job, no connections, and ive wasted 4 years trying to "figure out" what to do. Better to work and get paid while doing so.
Wait….are y’all the ones with all those Mack’s? That last name looks familiar Lmao
@@ModalSoul FANTASTIC advice!!
Me too been watching all the trucking videos and im excited to get to learn how to drive a big semi .. i think this is perfect for me
That’s all life man!! There is no manual, only punishment law for mistakes and very little payoff for the good decisions. The best thing is just pick something and go for it…
For those who can, look into some of the Technical Colleges that offer CDL classes. Allot of them offer financial aid which in most cases covers the cost or most of the cost for getting your CDL.
I’m enrolled in local Community College Cdl school. Total out of pocket including my license will be less than $400. Just about every one qualifies for grants and aid.
I live Columbus Ohio 25 year old and I'm struggling to find a school to teach me so I can drive for them let alone some gov't help..... Where should I search guys?
@Uncle Otis
SCHNEIDER TRUCKING
Has the reputation of being extremely absolutely positively focused on safety. They pay for everything including getting you there, it’s five weeks.
They have a channel here on UA-cam to get more information. If you call them they will email you more information and you can ask them any questions. They pay you to go to school, not a whole lot but it’s putting some money in your pocket while you’re in school. And they feed students two meals a day, they pay for your room and board while learning there, they have three or more schools they’ll send you to the one you’re closest to.
I’m gonna be going myself, getting organized before I do. Wish I could go right away.
Wishing you well.
PS:
Let me know how it goes if you do
@@selfesteem3447 So what did you think of your training with Schneider? Do they ask you to sign a contract with them for covering CDL?
That is how I did it
I’m 19 and work at FedEx freight and just started hostling in the yard. From 53 footers to 28 footers and I absolutely love it. I’m want to be a driver there so I can get my cdl. After that I plan on getting into trucking on my own or for a trucking company. This video helped!
Don't give up on your dream. Can you connect with me?
once u get on the road you will never wanna go to back to moving trailers...your best bet is going to a trucking school and paying yourself...these trucking companies will try to scam you out of 7000-1000 dollas
Violent DoZa...
That was my thinking, I was hale bent on paying for my own school didn’t want to be owned - like you’re saying.
Getting pre-prepared for this, studying kept hearing over and over how others (some were so annoyed) with Schneider being extremely overly focused on safety when they School new & orientate experienced -their drivers. I called their recruiting number it sounds pretty darn good.
Then my thinking was they can own me if they want to. They only want the students to work nine months (don’t have notes approxs, it’s not very long, some companies want you to work for 2 years) to pay back for the schooling. And I’m honestly not so worried about getting ripped off for 7 or $8000, I can earn it back later. Just so long as I get trained properly safest possible school where as other companies are just wanting to get you out there driving asap so They can make Their Money and aren’t really fully teaching. And I heard warnings of the schools doing the same, just want to get students in n out n get pay $ to keep CDL schools in business.
It’s taking me a while to get a lot of things done so I can stay focused when I do start doing it, it’s probably gonna be after the first of the year. I’m not rushing into it although I am very excited to get started.
Lmk if you want me to give some feedback even though it’s gonna be a while.

Whats your instagram ill connect you

Hello 👋🏻 nice to meet you Edward, hope you’re safe and well?
"Dealing with being cut off and getting told you're number one all the time". I don't even drive a truck and that wears me down as is. Happens all day every day. The adrenaline rush of near misses from negligent drivers is something I don't need on a daily basis, and yet I still do it. If you're an introvert, negligent drivers will bring out the extrovert in you. 😂😂😂
Gotta drive fast! 🙌🏽
Driven ... One of your best videos yet. I run from Fontana to Denver with a backhaul out of Sidney Ne. to So. Ca. in four days I do it 52 times a year. I make good money but it takes a special type of person to do it year-round in the Rockies. Running under my own authority I average last year over 7k gross a week. I leave Wednesday afternoon and drop my wagon in Fontana Sunday night. Doing it once or twice is no problem doing it 52 times a year rain, shine, or snow is a different story and a different type of person, to say the least
I stay in fontana, ca also. Do u do ig stories or anything like that to follow up on. Sounds interesting to stay tuned to
I miss little Sidney so much! I use to live on the outskirts, so freaking peaceful and beautiful!
I never knew about the gov’t kickbacks you mentioned. Good information as always. Thanks Brian.
Great information. I always wanted to drive a truck. Have a class A and drive school buses while teaching full time. Kinda getting burnt out managing student behavior while trying to do both jobs effectively and safely after 25 years. At 50 years of age I am having a hard time looking into a career change. Although I don’t have a mortgage or car payment, just one child close to finishing college I could afford it......
Do it
Very informative video. Taking permit test next week and already have a school lined up with job placement. Been driving with a b class for 20 years and looking forward to new adventure
Brian this is great advice. Trucking looks great from the ground. Then reality sets in. All these questions need answers before you commit.
I am 39, disabled veteran with extreme social anxiety, sitting in a box by myself sounds lovely. I just got my CDL Permit too
Good Luck and let us know how it goes :)

Helpful. Of the 5 Ys and the H, who you are is the most important element. We are talking to folks about boating the Great Loop waterway, and a boater’s personality will determine how you’ll do it, more so than “how much will it cost (how much will I make)”.

This is a question I have regarding the trucking industry. I obtained my CDL about a year and a half ago from a technical college. I am wondering if the only way to actually get that initial training needed to obtaining a job in the industry is by going with a mega carrier OTR? Any advice or direction is truly appreciated. all very true, and a lot of these questions they will lie about just to get someone in the seat haha, because that's what they are getting paid for.
