Just bought this ... so grateful for this video as the instructions didn't indicate which side to place against the body and you confirmed I was using it correctly
I wish our clinics here would use this more. I've just discovered far infrared and I'm surprised we never learned about this modality in school. I'm not a fan of passive treatments except ultrasounds and now far infrared heat/light therapy because they act on a deep cellular level, not superficial. And this is physics!
You are amazing! I follow your exercises for shoulders and hip, and they have helped immensely. Just purchased a Thermatex Platinum, and thanks for this brief video on using the product. I love it and it really does work. Thanks once again.
Aloha. Mahalo for your great instructive video. Tonight is my first time using it. I’m an avid open water swimmer and I’ve developed a nagging pain in my shoulder. Not uncommon for the amount of swimming I do. By all accounts, this type of therapy should help. Lahaina strong 💪🏾
Is there any reason to limit the use of infrared? it ok to use infrared every day? Do I need to limit the time to 20, 30 minutes. Is one hour too long?
I use a near-infrared pad for back pain and fibromyalgia, with great results. I wonder how far-infrared differs. I once tried a far-infrared sauna at a home center, which made me so light-headed I couldn’t walk for about half an hour. I have POTS, so maybe that was why. Is dysautonomia listed in the caution instructions?
Hello from Canada Just got a platinum pad from Amazon. Excellent video. Thanks. Question It does not seem very warm. Is it malfunctioning? Certainly nothing like a regular pad. How do I know if I am getting the correct level of heat? Thanks so much Jo. From very cold Canada🇨🇦😊
Thanks, and you're welcome. Far infrared heat does not get super hot like traditional heating pads. This is actually a good thing because too much surface heat can dry out the skin. So most likely it's doing what it's suppose to do, but it often won't have that super hot feeling.
Great instructions. I am experiencing severe nerve pain from c3 and c4 in my neck, left shoulder, and left arm 9 years after having c5 and c6 replaced. They were bone on bone. I see my surgeon next week and pray I don't need surgery again, but I am hurting so badly, right now and needed relief. I couldn't remember how to use it and could not find the instructions. You really blessed me. Thank you.
Hello. I have a red light therapy panel at home (660nm & 850nm). Will this infrared heating pad work together with the red light therapy? If I use both, is it safe? thanks
Can you lay on it? There are a lot of different brands or sellers of far infrared pads on Amazon. Some have jade and tourmaline etc, but they're all F. I. R. pads. The difference I see is the price. So, is one brand as good as another? Does a less expensive one work just as well?
I have to say that without this video people would have no clue. For the price and this is totally unacceptable!!!! There are no instructions in or on the box or in the 2 that tell you which side. So thank you for this. One question, do you apply directly on the skin or over clothes/ coverings for the back are?
Hi Jo, I had Varicocele embolization in the groin due to pain I now have chronic nerve pain here and in the lower back since getting nerve block which made the pain constant. I have pain 24/7 which takes it's toll especially when all I can do is take pain medication. I have read that this is good for verve damage and at certain wavelengths, I found your video informative would be great full for your thought's on this.
Hey doc jo. I was in a car accident 5yrs ago. I get really bad lower back pain before and during bad weather. Would this help. I didn't have any surgery or anything. Just therapy
Dr. Joe you mentioned about the warmup. Does it get 🥵 hot? And can it be used by someone with a hip replacement? It mentions something about metal in the directions... thank you for all you are doing!
I have the Platinum model and I love it - I just wish it was larger (both wider and longer). Helps immensely while I am on it, however, it's effects are not long-lasting for me after about a half an hour max. The demo was great as I was confused about how to use those straps and I do have several areas of my body that need treatment, so thank you.
I bought the platinum hoping it would help with my plantar fasciitis, and I do have to be careful. I am not diabetic, but about 15 minutes is all I can do without feeling a slight burning sensation afterward on the sides of my foot. So do be careful. To me it feels almost like a slow starting heating pad. Perhaps everyone is different. The jury is still out on whether it will help with pf. I need to use it a few more days/weeks. I have only had it for a couple of weeks using it once a day on average.
I just bought an infrared pad and I have bone on bone, bone spurs and osteoarthritis in my right hip. I'm around 70, very active, have played a lot of tennis and I want to get back out on the courts. Do you have any suggestions for me so I can utilize this pad to the fullest extent, because it has been extremely painful. I am taking some vitamins to help with the regrowth of the cartilage in my hip joint. It just takes time, but I do feel this infrared will help.
Is it ok to sleep on this all night? I'm looking for a heating pad to put under my feet to keep them warm. I've used regular electric pads for this but looking for something without the EMF.
I am now recuperating from pneumonia, and am on oxygen. Can this device help to bring relief for my clogged lungs so I can one day soon breathe again on my own?
Hi. Received my gift platinum pad a few days ago found it bulky at first as I had a flex pad from the US Before but wires broke after much use n got this gift from family .. love the healing comfort benefits immediate n glad to know Canada makes them now Can I register on line ?
I have been recovering from Rhabdo for 3 and a half months now. My longhead tricep, neck, chest, and upper back has really been getting better by time but i can still feel a lot of muscle pains there that wont go away. My doctor has checked my levels and said my Ck levels and everything else is fine. Will this infrared heating pad help? I been looking to invest in one!
Unfortunately, I don't know that answer since I can't evaluate you. Everyone is different. If there is any way you can see a physical therapist in person, they should be able to help you figure out a specific program for you and help answer your questions.

can you use it for very petite person for a castor oil pack on whole abdomen and liver area, preferably overnight. is itlow EMF and is it low cost to use, please?
Is a maximum of time that we can have the part of the body exposed to that light? and what is the difference between this kind of light and red light? Thanks, Doctor Jo
Red light is a general term for infrared light. It has different intensities on the light spectrum, so far infrared or near infrared for example. It just penetrates deeper than traditional heat, and it's usually not as hot on the skin. The amount of time really depends on what you are using it for.
@@AskDoctorJo Thanks for your rapid response and continue with your videos they are very educative for us. Another video could be how much time used this light and the differences between red light and infrared light. It is a suggestion only. Thanks a lot.
I just bought a heating pad and the instructions said a diabetic shouldn't use it without checking with your doctor first. I wonder if it's because some people might not be able to feel if the pad is too hot in some areas of the body. Do you know if there are any precautions with this product? It looks like something that my back could really benefit from. Thanks.
That is usually the reasoning. Many times diabetics don't have as much sensation in their hands and feet, so there is a higher risk of getting burned. It would still be best to ask your doctor, but since this is heat from light, it is less likely to burn, even if you don't feel it. Good luck.
AskDoctorJo Thanks, Dr. Joe. My back is my main issue and lack of sensation isn't a problem there. This Far Infrared Heat product has me intrigued. Gonna look at this video again. You're a gem! Thanks again.
You're welcome. Also, if you do have neuropathy, there is some research that shows infrared heat helps with mild cases, so it might be worth looking into for that as well.
dr Jo, I looked at the smaller pad on the thermotex site. It looks like it doesn't have straps. Is it stiff? coud you just use yoiur own straps with it? I only need to do a small area-my elbow. will it work for that?
Hey, appreciate you for making this video, it really helps. Please suggest if we can use the FIR therapy in summers also wherein the temperature is already 40-45°C?
Thank you. What makes this particular brand better than others. Others seem to be more pliable so as to mold more easily also this is one of the more costly. What makes it worth the added cost?
You're welcome. I'm not sure about the others as I haven't tried them, but often some will claim they are "light therapy" which is not the same as Far Infrared. There are also different kinds of infrared, some not as affective as others.
