How is it that the wind forecasts on XC Weather , Windfinder, BBC etc don't show the constant strong winds talked about in this video ? XCweather often shows Rota and Gibraltar was like 12 knots baseline. Similar story for Almeria which is also supposed to be good winds but often shows up as very little ?
Great video Nico! And spot on advice! I lived in Tarifa in the 2000s (had a windsurfshop and a restaurant there) and although the wind has changed a bit since then (climate change :(( ), the spots were more or less the same then under the conditions you describe. As for campsites, I would also suggest Camping Tarifa. It has its own surfing beach, bigger and sandy (with some rocks), with good accesibility and in walking/windsurfing distance from Arte Vida, Dos Mares and (to the other side) Hotel Hurricane and camping Torre de la Pena. On top of that the pitches are more spacy and you meet more Spanish windsurfers (and from Portugal, the UK and France.....Torre de la Pena tends to be very German). I love your work, please keep on posting!!
your videos and sailing improved quite a lot over the years... maybe you dont realise but you will be one of the few saviors of windsurfing with your passion for both sailing and promoting it. keep up the goodwork!!
Been there 1984 for the first time. With my parents when I was 10 years old. We stayed in Camping Torre de la pena. I haven't had learnt to windsurf yet (later in the year in the Bretagne I started). My elder brother was using a Bic Show and a sail with just short battens. Later in the early 90s I had my best time there. Parking on Valdevaqueros for weeks. No kitesurfers. Tiga 254 and 4.2 or Copello Slalom 275 with V8 6.5. Eating huge pizzas in town scissors. That was all fun!
Thank you Nico, excellent video. I went twice to Tarifa already, but now I realize there are spots I didn’t go to. Perfect excuse to go back! Thanks again!
Because of this video I came to Tarifa for windsurfing and I am here in Bibo beach right now! 😊 Thanks for the video and spot review! Tarifa really is the one of the best place for windsurfing.
Tremendo Video Nico!…. nice guide to know Tarifa spot… Thank you…. 56years old rider learning here…retired… travelling to know and lear windsurf… very helful…. Cheers…. 👏🏻😎
I will be going to Madrid for 1 year to study abroad, OF COURSE, I'm taking all my equipment with me, and I was planning a trip to Tarifa but had no idea about the spots etc, this video helped me so much! I hope I bump into you over there!
Wow absolutely loved this one Nico, I see the hard work that was put into this video. Shout out to the cameraman as well 🤙 I've been watching you since day one, just want to say I've learned so much from you and you've inspired me in ways unexplainable, I love the positive environment that you create with your videos & ability to explain in detail. Keep up the good work 🌊💨 👏
Thanks nico🙏🙂 Great video, great information. I've been wanting to spend a summer sailing in tarifa for a long time and after this video I see that the sooner it happens the better!!🤙😃
Hey Nico its always great to see your videos.. we are beginners and are definitively looking forward to check Tarifa very soon. We are now at a 5.5 sail and a 200l board (heavy) but always positive to improve as its awesome to fly over the wather!!
Dirk - GO! Travel & More
Tarifa is epic. Been there in august 2000, not a windsurfer myself, but my friends were. Back than it was still mostly Spanish-inlanders that came for their holiday there. We stayed at the Camping Tarifa next to the beach. Beautiful water but cold as ice, threaturous pointy rocks under the shoreline which cut my friends head the first dive in after 27hrs drive from NL. There were a lot of surfers, mostly native. But looking at your shots it really looks like an invasion of euro kiters. Way to crowed. STILL, I would love to go back now I took my first steps in windsurfing, but I know I will stand out too much being a newbie compared to all those big guns. The 10 knots beach sounds more like my spot. :) Nightlife was really laidback and good fun. Never came back to my hammock before 06:00hrs. It is a pitty to see that La Ruina and Balneario Night Clubs are permanently closed. Had Corona's all night long, leaving the Heiniken's for the foreigners. :)
Remember also Caños de Meca, Nico. Where the battle of Trafalgar took place. A really hot spot when Levante is brutal in Tarifa and ideal for wave sailing.
Such a Great Spot Guide! Hopefully you go on doing this for Spots in germany, denmark, and whats with the poland Baltin sea? Would be great for persons and Familys which want to travel by car. Thanxxxx
Hey Nico, Tarifa has amazing windsurfing spots, I recommend you to come to Vieste in Italy, one of the best windsurfing cities in all of Italy, you can find various spots with wind between 15 and 25 knots, Andy Laufer also came to Vieste for some sailing.
Nice spotguide. We were thinking to go there this winter but didn't know what to expect. Now we do. Some spots are not for me, but you said it in the video, there is always a spot for everyone. I'm used to sail in Brouwersdam Holland or La Nautique in France and saw/heared some places that look the same. What is the town life in winter (end of december, start of january)? Keep up the good work with your great video's.
when you are talking about the bibo spot, what is the song playing in the background?? Btw the video is awesome!!! will come in handy when I finally set sail in tarifa! ;)
Windsurfing paradise. How about a video series where you sponsor a 50 something lifelong windsurfer from Canada for a dream trip to join you in Tarifa😁 That guy would be me, btw😉 I can speak German as well, if that helps. Starboard might be all over that. Can you imagine the views; it would definitely go viral🤣
@@krigerp6096 Normally I could care less, but I gotta ask why make such a comment. Is it not obvious that I am joking and having a little fun. Btw, hippie is a reference to the 60’s. I wasn’t even born until 1970. And yes, I have a job, as a teacher. I would be surprised if you even windsurf as most of the windsurfers I know share a mutual respect for each other. Disappointing.

What about the offshore spot couple of miles ahead of Tarifa? It is located next to Strait of Gibraltar where shallow water meets the deep water zone with high current. Ever checked that?
Thanks for this great video! You made me want to come windsurfing in Tarifa too! But I'm just an amateur, and it would be great if you could add some information for people like me. Specifically, I can't bring equipment and so would have to rent. I see that there is an Ion Club in Valdevaqueros which has rental options. Are there other similar places where one could rent equipment for a week or two? Some tips would really helpful. Many thanks.

Super good question! Often and in good weather you can add a solid 10kn to the windguru forecast .
Use Aviation ATIS weather for a better forecast
